Obituary: Toni Elaine Watters was born the youngest of three children. She was born in Zeist, The Netherlands. Toni began her journey with the Lord at a young age by attending church on a regular basis. She graduated from Judson High School in Converse, Texas and went on to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia. She returned to San Antonio in 2000 to pursue her career and worked for a communication company then transferred to Austin. Toni found her home in Austin and began working for several accounting firms until she could no longer work. She leaves in loving memory a father, Cornelius (Evelyn) Mickle; a mother Debra (Robert) Hunter, a sister, Pamela (LaMonte) Jefferson; a brother, Aaron ( Ullandra) Mickle; four nieces, Alycia, Christian, Aaliyah, and Trinity; three nephews, Keelan, Isaiah and Greyson and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Obituary: Roberta Ann Watters, 73, passed away on , 31, 2014 at a local hospital in Abilene, TX. services will be at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 S., Abilene, TX. on , 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories . Visitation will be , 5, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Roberta was born 29, 1941 to Robert Lawrence Watters and Elsie Irene Eckert Watters in Brady, Texas. lived on a ranch in Kimble . She and her parents moved to their farm in McCulloch and later to San Angelo. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1959, San Angelo Junior in 1961, and Texas Womans University with a Bachelor of Science in 1963 and Master of Science in 1967. She was an outstanding 4-H Club member winning many awards and scholarships including the Texas Make-With-Wool Contest. In 1963 she became employed by the Cooperative Extension Service working in Coleman, Crane, and Taylor Counties, coming to Abilene in 1969. Her career touched many lives, both adult and youth, by educating the public through media, public meetings and individual contacts. She became well known throughout the area from the five year Extension Line daily television show on KRBC-TV that she shared with her co-worker Joe Wilson, as well as numerous appearances on The Harry Holt Show and other shows. During her career she received numerous service awards, such as Superior Service Award from Texas A&M University, Distinguished Service Award from National Extension Agents Association, and Distinguished Service Award from the Middle Clear Fork Soil and Water Conservation. She has been recognized by state and national officials. Roberta was a founding board member of The Abilene Food Bank, served on the boards of the Abilene Womans Club and Taylor Expo , and chairman of the Modern Living Mall at the West Texas Fair. She and her family have been supporters of youth agencies for years in Abilene. Through the years she was very active in church serving as church organist, pianist, church council president and secretary, taught Bible studies and worked with youth and womens groups. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. her retirement in 1995, she managed her farm, ranch, and rental properties. She was a cancer survivor and received a liver transplant in 1999. She cared for her parents and in 2010 moved to -Wesley Court where she had many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Elsie and Robert Watters. Survivors include her cousins, Norman Probst and wife, Marian of Early, Darrell Probst and wife, Carolyn of Bryan, Jan Schlee and husband, Jay of Clyde, Allan Eckert and wife, Carolyn of Kingsville, Larry Watters and wife, Lanka of Austin, and an aunt, Minnie Myers of Beeville, TX. |

Obituary: Elsie Irene Eckert Watters, 96, died 5th, 2011. Services will be held , 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, directed by Elliott-Hamil , 5701 Hwy 277 South. She was born in Katemcy, Mason , Texas on 1, 1914 to Alfred and Alpha Eckert. She graduated from Mason High School in 1931 and attended Texas Lutheran in Seguin and received her degree from Southwest Texas at San Marcos in 1935. She taught in Saline and London schools and met and married Robert Lawrence Watters 27, 1936. were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Roberta in 1941. ranched in Kimble with his parents and then moved to their farm in McCulloch in 1948 where she taught school in Richland Springs and Mercury. In 1953 they left the farm and she taught in Melvin and Mereta. In 1956, she and her family moved to San Angelo where she began teaching and completed her 35 year teaching career. She influenced the lives of many children, even buying their lunch and school supplies and providing many of her own work supplies. In her retirement years in San Angelo, she was active in Calvary Lutheran Church making quilts for World Relief. In 1990 she and her husband moved to Abilene to be near their daughter. celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2002. She had been active in Retired Teachers Assn., AARP, Abilene Womans Club and Our Savior Lutheran Church and contributed to many charities. Elsie, her husband and daughter all survived cancer. She cared for her daughter through a liver transplant. She was always busy and loved to cook, teach, help others and travel. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Ann Watters of Abilene; nieces, Jan and J.W. Schlee and Elaine and Jerome Hall; nephews, Norman and Marian Probst, Carl and Janis Eckert, Mike and Ann Watters, Larry and Lanka Watters and other nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Elmer Eckert and a sister, Dorine Probst. Memorials may be made to Community Foundation of Abilene, P O Box 1001, Abilene, TX 79604 for the Robert, Elsie and Roberta Watters Fund. |

Service: 3:00 p.m. , Jan. 7, in the Chapel of Chimes at Laurel Land in Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: , 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. She was the fifth of six children. She is the last survivor of her siblings. She had 2 children, Janis, from her first marriage to George Ezra Carney and Perry, from her later marriage to J.G. Watters. Both husbands preceded her in death. She enjoyed arts and crafts and gardening. Tulips were her favorite flower and she grew many beautiful blooms in her tulip beds. She was a very accomplished seamstress and even designed her clothes, made the patterns, and sewed the garments in her early years. She was fond of quilting, knitting, and crocheting, which she did until the last few weeks of her life. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Bible Missionary Church in Arlington for many years. She leaves behind two children, Janis Shockley and Perry Watters both of Arlington, TX; two grandchildren, Michelle Lee Killinger and Shea Noelle Shockley; three great-grandchildren, Christopher John Froelich, Zachary Austin Killinger and Avery Lee Shockley; two nieces Gloria Green and Gloria Stevens; and many friends from Bible Missionary Church. |
