Obituary: a long life filled with loving family and faithful service, Edith Frances Morton Watson passed from this life to eternal life on 10, 2014 in Houston, TX. She was born in Lubbock, TX on 26, 1933 to John and Auvena Morton. She lived in Levelland, TX through High School where she met her husband Gerald Watson. From their time as college sweethearts to Gerald's death nearly half a century later, they built a life together filled with love, a devotion to the Lord, and an abundance of children. Raising seven children helped Edith discover her professional calling. Between her experience as a mother and her many years teaching school, working with children professionally came naturally. She started by establishing a private kindergarten in her home in the years before sending children to kindergarten was standard, proceeded to begin a Christian Montessori school, and eventually worked within the public school system. In her years of working with children professionally, she continued teaching many children spiritually in weekly Bible Classes, particularly babies in Cradle Roll classes. Edith's long-ranging influence is clear in the long list of beloved family members that survive her. This includes her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Kenneth Basye and all seven of her children and their spouses: Suzanne and Robert Dennis, Larry and Martha Watson, Debra Hicks, Timothy and Susan Watson, Patricia and Jerry Robinson, Jerry Watson and John Watson. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and their spouses: Rob and Abby Dennis, Joshua Hicks, Kristen Hicks, Whitney and Jake Eversole, Daniel and Hannah Watson, Matthew Robinson, Jason and Paula Hicks, Stephanie Watson, Thomas and Stacie Robinson, Barrett Watson and Hunter Watson -- and two great-grandchildren, Kayden Hicks and Rilo Hicks. She was sadly preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, her son-in-law Mark Hicks, her parents, and her brother, John Douglas Morton. Throughout all of her experiences, the major themes of her life remained a devotion to God and family. Her children were raised with the experience of regular church attendance and involvement. This has continued into their adulthood and has been passed on to their children. To anyone who knows her family or has attended a church where she was a part of the congregation, Edith's influence is evident. While Alzheimers took much of her memory in the end, the many friends and family members whose lives she touched will carry on the memory of her in the years to come. A memorial service will be held at Leander Church of Christ in Leander, TX, on , 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. In death, as in life, we know Edith would want to do further good in any way possible. Therefore, In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Edith be made to the Bible education department of your local congregation or to the Alzheimers Disease and Memory Disorders - Neurology Department - Baylor of Medicine in Houston. |

Obituary: Earl L. Watson was born on 5, 1925 in Boone, North Carolina to Gladys and John Watson. He transitioned into heaven softly, peacefully and pain free on evening at 11:30 PM on 20, 2014 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He is preceded in death by wife, Myrtle of 64 years, his parents and siblings: Madeline, Al and Arvel. He is survived by daughters: Jane and Nancy (Rick); granddaughter, Whitney (Dan); step grandson, Steven; two nieces and a nephew residing in Colorado. Earl enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served 33 months in the Pacific aboard the USS Manlove DE-36 working in the engine room. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and began work in the maintenance department at the DuPont Chemical in Cleveland. It is at DuPont where he met his beloved wife, Myrtle Louise Woehrman. Myrtle was working as a chemist intern after receiving her BS in chemistry in 1946 from Case Western Reserve University. were married on 14, 1947 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Ohio. One of Myrtles conditions to marry Earl was that he attend and graduate from college. In the fall of 1947, he enrolled in her Alma Mater and graduated in 1951 with a degree in industrial management. Because of Earls service in the Navy, he was able to attend Case Western on the GI Bill. Earl was also fascinated with corporate law and applied and was accepted to law school. However Myrtle was anxious to finally start a family. Earl then accepted a position in Cleveland with Exide Ray-O-Vac Battery in the Industrial Engineering Department. Later, he was transferred to Allentown, Pennsylvania where both daughters were born; Jane in 1954 and Nancy in 1957. Earls work assignments resulted in the movement of his family to various manufacturing operations from coast to coast including Los Angeles, Cleveland, Denver and finally Dallas, Texas. It was in Dallas that Earl was elevated to Regional Plant Manager not only responsible for the total operation of the Dallas facility, but was required to travel to various plants throughout the south to train plant managers and monitor their performance. Earl excelled in his upper management role so successfully that in 1979, he was asked to oversee a high profile special project for his company and move to Sorocaba, Brazil near Sao Paulo. So with both daughters well out of college and pursing their own careers, he and Myrtle acquiesced to their adventurous, fearless nature and jumped at the opportunity to work and live in a foreign country. Earl was asked to supervise the final phase of construction and ultimately manage the entire operation of the new Saturnia storage battery facility. The language of Brazil is Portuguese so there were obvious barriers for both Earl and Myrtle to overcome. Earl had an English speaking secretary to assist him in translating the language while Myrtle was left to her own devices to navigate shopping, doctors and hairdressers. No matter what obstacles presented themselves, the Watsons met every challenge with curiosity, joy and excitement. While in Brazil, they were most fortunate to meet Kari and Torben Wetche, a beautiful, young energizing couple. Together, the four of them shared their Brazilian experiences as a team and have remained close friends ever since. Earl was asked to extend his stay in Brazil an additional two years, but he and Myrtle were homesick for Texas and moved back to the Dallas area in 1983. Upon returning to the states, Earls company offered him an upper level management position in Philadelphia, but he declined leaving Texas and elected to take early retirement. Back in 1972, Earl and Myrtle had purchased 13 acres south of Denton in Argyle, Texas. At that time, Argyle was a rural community without even a single traffic light. Today, the Argyle community has expanded to such a level that on 19th of this year, the Argyle high school competed for the state 4A football championship. Anxious to reap the benefits of their smart Argyle investment, they sold their property for a healthy profit and used the additional funds as seed money to start a whole new venture in flipping and owner financing homes in the Lewisville area. Earl also earned his real estate license giving him exposure to properties and insight into trending areas around town. He found a new passion in selling, purchasing and renovating residential properties. It was obvious to everyone who knew Earl that he possessed the uncanny ability to spot a bargain and capitalize on the opportunity. He trained many of us and shared his secrets to real estate success. He often commented that he wished he had left Exide years earlier in order to pursue ventures in real estate while at the same time complaining about having to pay so much in capital gains when his investments reaped such high returns. Having drained the Lewisville area of all its real estate opportunities, Myrtle and Earl moved to Sun City in 1998 and the rest is real estate history. Earl was a proud WWII Navy veteran and was thrilled to participate in the Honor Flight program 11th and 12th of this year. He commented often that the trip to Washington D.C. to tour the war monuments was an experience hell never forget. On the flight back to Texas, during mail call, he was presented with dozens of cards and letters written by his family and friends. He was overwhelmed and touched by all the support and encouragement and enjoyed reading his Honor Flight mail over and over again in the comfort of his home. Earls family is so delighted he was able to share in the glory of the Honor Flight experience. Myrtle and Earl loved to travel and spent much of their time while in Sun City boarding a ship or hopping on planes and trains whenever they could. went around the world on one of their many excursions and were exposed to a continued... |
