Obituary: Mary Walther, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away , 21, 2011 in Conroe, Texas. Mary, 87 years old, was born in Indiana. She grew up with one sister, Lucy and three brothers, Richard, James and Robert. She graduated from Lucerne, Indiana High School and attended Butler University and Westminster Choir , where she majored in music. Her marriage to William Walther lasted 52 years. were blessed to have three beautiful children, Barbara, Susan and Bill. She was an active member of The Woodlands Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and a member of Hug-A-Bears, sponsored by Memorial Herman Hospital. Mary was a 50 year member of The Order of The Eastern Star in Indiana and Spring Chapter 1105 of The Grand Chapter of Texas, she was also a member of The White Shrine of Jerusalem, The Social Order of Beauceant, a Past Mother Advisor of The Order of Rainbow for Girls, and a Past Organist for The Grand Chapter of The Order of The Eastern Star in the state of Indiana. Mary was a choir director for Central Christian Church in Elkhart, Indiana for many years, and then worked 21 years for Bock Industries as a receptionist and as a sales representative. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband William; sister Lucy and brothers Richard and Robert. She is survived by her brother James Annis of Indianapolis, IN; her three loving children Barbara and husband Herb Gutterman of Peoria, AZ, Susan and husband Barry Daniels of The Woodlands, TX, William Walther and wife Judy of Hurst, TX; 5 grandchildren Alysia, Lauryn, Amanda, Rachel, and Thomas; and 5 great grandchildren Katelynn, Emma Mary, Rianna, Jenna and Jordan. A Celebration of Marys life is set for 6:00 P.M., , 25, 2011 at The Woodlands Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1202 N. Millbend, The Woodlands, TX 77380. Obituary: Joseph Daniel Walther, Joe, age 91, passed away on 15, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Joe was born on 7, 1923 in Dallas, Texas, to Leota Goodbar Walther and Albert Daniel Walther. Joe graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas in 1940. Joe received his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1950, followed by masters degree in 1963, followed by a Master of Science degree in research and development from Florida State University in 1966. Joe joined the United States Air Corps on Dec. 7, 1942, serving his country for 28 years until he retired with honors in 1970. Joe flew over 24 missions during WW II, including dropping food to the starving people of Holland. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Joe flew with the Antique Airlines (Old men and old planes). retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Joe obtained his Texas Professional Engineering license in 1980 and worked as a civil engineer for the City of Austin until 1999. Joe was an adventurist who loved to travel. He loved his family and friends. His witty striking influence along with the sparkle in his eyes will always be with those who were lucky enough to be around him. Joe is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Gloria; daughter Lynn Dial of Providence, Texas ; sons Daniel (wife Julie) of Round Rock, Texas, Michael (wife Jeanne) of Vero Beach, Florida and Patrick (wife Michele), of Vero Beach, Florida; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; sister Mary Reynolds of Tyler, Texas; sisters in law, Bernice Stolle and husband Richard, and Mary Piland, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A viewing and rosary service will be held on 20th from 6-8pm at Cook Walden , 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. A memorable service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5909 Reicher Drive, Austin, TX on 21st at 11 am. Obituary: Col. Dale L. Walther, USAF (RET) Col. Dale L. Walther departed this earthly duty station just two months shy of his 100th birthday. He was born to Herman Walther and Georgia Smith Walther on Dec. 17th, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His family then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where Dale graduated from North High School in 1932. In 1936, Dale was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US Cavalry Reserve and later that year met a beautiful young lady on a hayride! A lucky guy, Dale and Alice M. Brown were married the following year. The young couple then moved to Refugio, TX where Dale landed a job with a major oil and gas company. In 1941, Dale was called to active duty as a 1st Lt. and assigned to the 1st Cavalry at Ft. Bliss, TX. Later that year, he was transferred to the Army Air Corps at Kelly AFB, TX. He was then assigned to train Supply Officers and as Commander of Galveston Army Base. Daughter, Carole Sue, came into Alice & Dales lives in 1943. the war, Dale was assigned to many staff and Directorate positions including Germany during the Berlin airlift, Korea during the Korean War and the Joint Military Mission in Ankara, Turkey. He retired in 1964, at the rank of Colonel, after 28 years of service. Dale then took a position as a Human Resource director with GE at NASA in Clear Lake City, TX, where they resided and experienced the excitement of the Apollo missions to the moon. retiring for the last time, Alice & Dale moved to Austin to be near family. Sadly, Alice, much too soon, passed away in 1984. Dale then spent his time with family, reading, traveling and engrossed in his coin and stamp collections. Dale is survived by his daughter, Carole Sue Jakubczak and husband Don (Jake); children, Susan, Deanna and Donald; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. There will be a Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National with full military honors at 11:00 A.M, 27th of 2014. Please, no flowers. Obituary: Dr. Walter Walthall, Jr. entered into Glory with his Lord early morning, 18, 2001. He was born 13, 1913 to Walter Walthall, Sr. and Nellie Napier Paschal Walthall, the first of five brothers raised at 316 Maverick on Tobin Hill. He was introduced to the field of medicine at an early age as he accompanied his grandfather, Dr. Franklin LaFayette Paschal on rounds in his horse and buggy. Dr. Walthall graduated from Main Avenue High School, the University of Texas, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and from the Baylor School of Medicine in Dallas, Texas. During World War II, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps Medical Service Branch. In 1941, he married the former Alice Ruth Brady and, together they raised two children. Walter Walthall, III and Sally Ellen Walthall Cribbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paschal Bub Walthall, and his brother, Thomas J. Walthall. In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, Alice Ruth Ali, he is survived by his children and their families: daughter, Sally Cribbs and husband, Dr. Thomas Cribbs; son, Mr. Walter Walthall, III and wife, Carolyn Walthall; grandchildren, Thomas Cribbs, Jr. , Dr. Walter Walthall, IV; Laura Walthall and Ellen Walthall; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Dubose Walthall, the Rev. and Mrs. Edwin Walthall and Mrs. Thomas J. Walthall, in addition to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dr. Walthall was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He actively practiced as a Family Physician for over 55 years and was President of the Texas State Medical Association, the Bexar Medical Society, and the Texas Academy of General Practice. He served in the American Medical Association House of Delegates, where he sat as Chairman of the Ethics Committee. As Chairman of the Bexar Hospital DistrictÂs Board of Managers, he was instrumental in helping establish the medical school at the University of Texas Science in San Antonio. He was also active in helping to create the Northeast Baptist Hospital, where he served as Chief of the Medical Staff. He was President of the Rotary Club of San Antonio, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow and served on the Advisory Board of the Worden School of Social Service at Our Lady of the Lake . He was also a member of the American Association of Railway Surgeons. He belonged to the Order of the Alamo, the San Antonio Country Club, the William Barrett Travis Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, San Antonio, and was an Honorary Member of the Triniteers Fraternity at Trinity University. In addition, he enjoyed serving on the Board of the San Antonio Library System. His life exemplified the credo of Walt Disney: Think. Believe. Dream. Dare. The Rev. Dr. Louis Zbinden, Jr. officiated. He began his working life as a farmer in produce and ended up his career as a painter. He is preceded in death by sons, Don Terry Walthall, Dan William Walthall; grandson, Brandon Joseph Walthall. Survivors include: wife, Ella Ruth Walthall; son, Richard Lee Walthall Jr.; daughters, Sherry Ann Shepherd, Jo Linda Knowles, Laura Jane Stanford; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren. Obituary: WALTHALL Paul Trimble Walthall, 87, lifelong resident of San Antonio, passed away 12, 2011. He was born on 8th to Wilson Jones Walthall and Nina Trimble Walthall. Paul graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Trinity University in 1948 with a BS in Business Administration. Paul continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Masters of Business Administration degree in 1954. He then obtained his CPA license. He spent his 41year career teaching accounting at Trinity University while also having a CPA practice on the side. His achievements at Trinity included heading the Bengal Lancers mens association, being elected Professor of the Year, and serving as acting dean of the Business Administration Department for three years. Paul was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. His generous spirit and emphasis on community involvement led him to serve on several non-profit boards including Community Guidance , Visiting Nurses Association, Texas Military Institute, and National Alumni Board at Trinity University. For over 50 years he was an active member of a local stock investing association, The Peso Club. In the past few years he also provided homemade desserts to patients at the nearby Aids Hospital. Throughout his adult life, Paul loved to cook for and entertain his family and friends, and they loved and admired his generous spirit and kind heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Jones Walthall and Nina Trimble Walthall; infant son, Paul T. Walthall, Jr.; wife, Doris Leary Walthall; sister, Marjorie T. Walthall and brother, Wilson J. Walthall. Paul is survived by his children, Anne Wright and husband, Robert, Kathleen Fry and husband, Roger and son, Paul L. Walthall and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Robert Wright, Kate Wright, John Heard IV and Meg Heard; great-grandson, Austin Heard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio, TX 78212 or to Trinity University, 1 Trinity Place, San Antonio, TX 78212. |
