Obituary: According to the Third Chapter of Ecclesiastes, here is a time and a season for every activity under the sun. There is a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing. If ever there was anyone who was embraceable, it was Martha Ellen Williams. The Lord set her time to appear on earth on 10, 1924 in Darlington . She was the daughter of Charlie and Janie Brown Graham, who was the son of Andrew and Lizzie Graham. Her maternal grandmother was Mittie Brown. On , 25, 2016, Martha entered into eternal rest. My earliest memory of my mother was her lap. I would run and lay my head on her lap when the thunder and lightning frightened me. I would lay my head on her lap when the menaces I refer to as brothers teased me. I also remember her listering switch, which she would lay on me and my siblings. What our extended family probably remember most are her iscuits. A Mauds biscuits were talked about from the east coast of South Carolina to the Northern City of New York. Her demeanor was quiet and but her smile was captivating! Martha grew up in Lamar, SC and attended the public schools of Darlington . She traveled to Baltimore, MD and lived and worked at various jobs including the railroad. On 30, 1944, she married the infamous Willie Maxie Williams Son of the Meadow Prong Community, located in Effingham, SC. The couple was trailblazers who owned their own land, ran a country store and were involved in other entrepreneurial endeavors. Their farm produced tobacco, cotton, cucumbers, potatoes and other valuable garden produce. marrying her dear Maxie, Martha Ellen joined Meadow Prong Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Usher Board until illness caused her to move into her daughters home and began attending True Faith Fellowship Church. In 2001, she began attending Resurrection Outreach Ministries. In 2008, Mother Martha received a special Kingdom Leadership Certificate appointing her to the Honorary Mother Board Ministry at Resurrection Outreach Ministries. She was also designated as Mother of the Church. Later in life, Martha begins attending Pee Dee Active Daycare . She loved going to he center. She was very special to the staff there. She won numerous contests and awards including Smile of the month! Those who passed over into eternity before Martha were her husband, Willie Maxie Williams; her parents, Charlie and Janie Graham; her grandparents; husbands parents, Wilkin and Ruth Woods Williams; grand-daughter, Naemi Alston; son-in-law and her pastor, Louis Brody; three brothers, Sylvester Graham, Charlie Albert Graham and Willie James Timmons; half-sister, Janie Mae Graham; in-laws, Wilkin Williams, Drewie and Carl Pender, Betty and Sammy Robinson, Kelly Frierson, Lemuel Pygatt, Clara and Wes Addison, Winnie and Rudy Gadson, Pecola and Maryland Leon Baker. She began her career as a mother in 1946 with the birth of her firstborn, Maxine, who preceded her in death. A year later she gave birth to a son, Maxie (Marguerite) Williams, Jr. He was followed by Janie Deloris (Isaiah) Brown of Clarksville, TN; Etrulia Ellen (Franklin) Frierson; James Wilken (Ruby) Williams; Modestine Brody; Jeannette Lynn Williams of Charleston, SC, and Janet Louise (Roy) Hyman. She had 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren. Other surviving family members are: a sister, Queen Ester Flemming; sisters-in-law, Bernice Nettles Sellers, Arteal Pygatt, Nina Mae (Tentime) Frierson of Brooklyn, NY and Rosa Lee Williams of Cheraw, SC; special aunt, Birdie Brown; special cousins, Betty Rivers and Ernestine McCray; a special friend, Mrs. Florence Pygatt; special home health aides, Denise and Latasha. |

Obituary: Martha B. Williams, 87, of Summerville, SC, died , 25, 2014. Her funeral service will be held , 30, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mary Love in Hamlet, NC at 4:00pm. The family will receive friends , 29, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhrs North Area chapel. Martha was born 28, 1927 in Hamlet, NC, one of 11 children of the late John Washington Brigman and the late Belle Watters Brigman. She retired from BellSouth after 26 years of service. She is survived by her son, Steve Williams (Tammy) of Summerville; two daughters, Carol Goodell of Summerville and Sharon Wheeler of Burlington, NC; five grandchildren, including Steven, Amber and little Earl as well as four great-grandchildren.
