Obituary: Howard Luther Wessinger CHAPIN \ services for Howard Luther Wessinger, 85, will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 17, 2014 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Watts, Bob Wessinger, Kenneth Kibler, Grey Pinix, Matthew Shealy and Ricky Huffstetler. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , 16, 2014 at Caughman-Harman , Chapin Chapel. Mr. Wessinger was born 18, 1928 in Chapin, SC and passed away on , 13, 2014. He was a son of the late Jacob Earle Wessinger and Mary Esther Amick Wessinger. Mr. Wessinger was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. He was a retired South Carolina State employee from the SC Highway Department and the SC Department of Corrections. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming, as well as his hobby in Taxidermy. He liked his music and playing various instruments. His grandsons were his pride and joy. Surviving are his son, Howard PeeWee Wessinger; grandsons, Howard Preston (Betsy), James Matthew (Misty) and Joseph Andrew Wessinger; brother, Robert Bobby Earl Wessinger of Chapin; granddaughter, Kenzie Jumper; nieces and nephews and Debbie Wessinger. He was predeceased by his wife, Alma Sharpe Wessinger and sister, Freida Huffstetler. The family would like to thank the following, Legacy Hospice, Blue Ridge Hospice, Solutions, Emily Landaw, Sherry Hill, Alison Wicker, Louise Coleman, Sandy Edwards, Anita Fulmer, Laura Keith, Josephine Wheeler, Rachel Kent, Aimee Dewitt, Janell Tedder and Melissa Howell. Obituary: Dorothy Dot Swygert Wessinger LEXINGTON - Dorothy Dot Swygert Wessinger, 84, died , 28, 2015 peacefully surrounded by family. She was born in Leesville on 18, 1931, the oldest child of Jobie Paul and Vienna Long Swygert. Dot truly lived out Matthew 25:23, Well done, good and faithful servant. She devotedly and lovingly served her husband, children, parents, church, friends, employers and community. She graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School with her classmates, in spite of spending months in a coma. Her full recovery from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever was inexplicable by medical experts. She grew up an active member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church and after her marriage, she was also active at St. Peters Lutheran Church. She and her husband transferred their membership to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, as she felt it was vitally important for her children to attend church in the same community as classmates and close friends. She and her husband, Jimmy, were charter members of the Lake Murray Community . She was instrumental in the growth of the Lexington Republican Party in the 1960s serving in numerous leadership capacities, her favorite being working with the Lexington Teen Age Republicans. When her children were young she was a School and Vacation Bible School teacher, Den Mother in Boy Scouts, and Brownie Leader in Girl Scouts, as well as working tirelessly to help her parents who owned and operated Swygerts Landing on Lake Murray. All the while, continuing her education earning an Associates Degree in Social Work from Midlands Technical . Upon the completion of her degree, she worked with South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation, helping those recovering from addictions once again become contributing members of society. When her children were older, she was instrumental in the Lexington Teen Canteen, providing a safe environment for teenagers to socialize. her retirement from Morris Village, she cared for her ailing husband until his death. Her heart was broken again when her mother passed away three weeks later. Her heart was made complete again at the birth of her first grandchild, 364 days later. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She is survived by her son, James Richard Ricky Wessinger (Dena); daughter, Susan Wessinger Helton; her four precious grandchildren: Henry Wessinger Wess Helton; Katherine Mathias Callie Helton; Meadow Azure Wessinger; and Jasper Shiloh Wessinger, all of Lexington; her special niece, Carol Schwobel of Blacksburg, Virginia and nephews, Paul Schwobel of Maryland and Don Schwobel of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James Franklin Wessinger; and brother, Franklin Delano Nick Swygert. Heartfelt thanks and gratitude are expressed to her caregivers and staff at Oakleaf Village, Hospice Advantage, Dr. John Lazaro and Dr. William S. Ghent for years of compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. 1, 2015 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held in the family plot at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Obituary: Carl Edgar Wessinger CHAPIN - Carl Edgar Wessingers journey on this earth came to an end on 8, 2013 after an inspiring journey of faith and trust in our Lord. Carl has now won the battle over cancer and achieved the ultimate victory. Carls journey in his new body with the Lord has now begun. Carl was born 20, 1944 to the late Cecil Edgar and Stella Frick Wessinger. Carl was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was so greatly loved by all that knew him. Carl had a tenderhearted spirit that loved completely. Carls last few months were filled with words of faith and trust in God for His will to be done and that God receive the glory and praise and use Carls journey to turn others to Christ. The family will receive family and friends at Caughman-Harman , Chapin Chapel on , 10, 2013 from 5-7. A celebration of Carls life will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin, SC on , 11, 2013 at 4:00 with interment in the church cemetery. Pall bearers will be Kenny Sandel, Billy Sandel, Ricky Cannon, Eddie Cannon, Bryan Wessinger and Jim Owens. Honorary pall bearers will be employees of Mashburn Construction . Carl was recently retired from Mashburn Construction where he had been employed for thirty-three years. Carls love and dedication to his company was an example to everyone. His co-workers were not just that, they were his family also. Carl is survived by his loving wife, of forty-two years, Sherill Steverson Wessinger; his children, Edgar Lee (Susan Barrett) Wessinger and Sherri W. (Joshua) Thompson. Carl is also survived by the light of his life on this earth, his grandchildren, Kathryn Anne Wessinger, Elijah Thompson, Chaya Thompson, Abigail Wessinger, Ezra Thompson and Aliyah Thompson. Carls love for these abies and all children knew no bounds. Carl is also survived by his siblings, Melverta W. (Bill) Sandel, Kathy W. (Larry) Cannon, Lynne W. (Richard) Fulmer and Danny L. (Belinda Yonce) Wessinger, all of Chapin. Left also to cherish the memories are Carls brothers-in-law, Wade (Linda) Steverson of Escondito, Ca and Al (Sandra) Steverson of Lexington, SC; step-father-in-law, Michael Latham; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, his family at Mashburn Construction , friends and other extended family. We would like to extend our appreciation to Blue Ridge Hospice for their love and care of this amazing man especially Krista Kell, Kristi Morris, Sue Bestwick, Susan Fellers and also to all of you who have cared so greatly and visited so often.
