Obituary: Hattie Queen Hunt entered this world on a cold 7, 1929, in McGehee Arkansas. Hattie, one of nine children born to James Hunt, Sr., and Bertha MacMorris, was raised in McGehee & Dumas, Arkansas. spending time as a young adult in Mississippi, Hattie migrated in 1954 to Portland, Oregon, to join newly relocated relatives including her dad, “Jimmy”, stepmom Mary, and her older and baby sisters, respectively, Florence and Myrtle.

While living in North Portland but spending time with Daddy & Mother in Russellville {now commonly referred to as East }, Petie – as she was affectionately known to family and close childhood friends – often attended church at the old Mt. Calvary Church of God In Christ {COGIC} under the leadership of then Pastor, later to become Bishop H. B. Daniels, Sr., now deceased, where her dad, Minister Hunt, enjoyed singing and playing guitar during “testimony service”.

Petie longed for children, and after experiencing the heartbreak of miscarriage, made a promise to God that if He would bless her with the desire of her heart … to bear children … she would “bring them up to know the true and living God”. Her prayers were answered when she gave birth “to a beautiful little girl named Cynthia Denise” on 15, 1957, and again on 11, 1962 when Linda Joyce was born. When Linda was six months old, Queen – the name she now preferred {“I never really liked the name Petie and God has given me a new name by which only He calls me; I now want to be called Queen & Aunt Queen” she stated…} – took her two little girls to a church where she said she’d been “led by the spirit”: St. Paul COGIC where she would quickly learn a foot stomping, tongue talking, Holy Ghost-filled revival was being led by the Right Reverend W. W. Wyrick, a traveling white preacher and frequent guest of then Pastor, later to become Bishop J. C. Foster, now deceased. At this revival Queen was Saved and Filled with the Precious Holy Ghost. She remained a faithful and active member of St. Paul for more than 30 years before serving as a Mother for many years thereafter at New Life COGIC, under the leadership of Pastor Donald Bilbrew.

During her time as a newly born saint, Queen was pursued romantically by the man whose charms would prove not only hard to resist and ignore but would then become the Love of Her Life, Henry Warren. Henry knew he’d “scored” when it was discovered that Linda, having been mesmerized by the sweet mixture of Henry’s trailing cigar smoke and cologne, would follow him away from the house to wherever he was headed, unbeknownst to Queen or anyone else, calling him DADA. He’d discover his tiny shadow and lovingly take her by the hand and lead her back home to her mother. When Queen told Henry she was saved, one day she’d Walk That Milky White Way, be flyin’ up there with them angels, and that she could only be with someone who also loved God, Henry quickly replied: “I’m gonna be flyin’ up there with you cuz I’m GONNA GET SAVED TOO!” And, he did! To seal the deal on 5, 1964, Henry Warren married Hattie Queen Clark in a civil ceremony attended and celebrated by close friends and family. Henry would raise her two little girls Cynthia and Linda as if they were his own until the day he died. Queen was a devout Christian and woman of strong faith which would sustain her through difficult times over the years, including the loss of her beloved Henry, an event that would change her life forever.

Queen was an evangelist missionary, willingly serving in a variety of posts including St. Paul Senior Choir Member, Prayer Warrior, Sunshine Band and Prayer & Bible Band Leader and often “bringing the message” at church. She said God gave her the title of Message Carrier and placed in her spirit Psalms 119:11, Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Queen’s missionary work expanded from church to community, caring for the elderly who could no longer care for themselves, cooking and baking for church events, and she created and facilitated church fundraisers, the most notable being the “Queen Pageants” where little girls “ran for Queen” by way of soliciting and campaigning for financial donations; the highest earner was bestowed with the title Queen of the fundraiser, also receiving a crown and trophy. She loved children and after a brief career as a Assistant, was a stay-at-home mom and child care provider through The Volunteers of America and Salvation Army, not to mention private clients some of whom she cared for from babies into their middle school years. She was a foster mother who not only fostered several children over the years, but adopted two boys, Chris and Keoni who’d lived with her from early childhood. In the days before seatbelts were “The Law”, Queen and Henry piled dozens of kids into the family vehicle every weekend for Sunshine Band on s and School & Church on s.

Her service to God, church and her community were unparalleled and she was an avid student soaking up every bit of knowledge she could about her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She handwrote her favorite scriptures on notecards, placed them in her bosom and prayed over them so she could recite them from memory at a moment’s notice. She had Cynthia and Henry quiz her relentlessly until she had them down to a science! She could barely contain her excitement as she prepared to travel to the COGIC National Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, to receive her Teacher Certificate, a “degree” she’d earned on 15, 1976, after many months of study from The Charles Harrison Mason System of Bible s. Having suffered a learning disability as a child, she was so thankful to God and rejoiced in her continued...
