Obituary: Herbert Gary Woody Gary, age 82, passed away on , 17, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews. Born on 26, 1929 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Herbert Plato Woody and Lura Turbyfill Woody. Gary graduated from Central High School in 1947. He began his newspaper career at The Charlotte Observer as a young boy carrying a paper route and retired after 46 years as Printing and Packaging Manager. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954. Those left to cherish Garys memories are his loving wife of 44 years, Judith Long Woody; daughter, Tracey Woody Collins and son-in-law, Dave Collins; his precious granddaughters, Brittyn and Adayre Collins; his brother, Ted Woody and sister-in-law, Judy; nephew, Tony Woody and his wife, Heidi and their daughter, Maisie; and his little buddy, Harley. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM , 22, 2011 at Wilson & Cremation Service with Reverend Albert Leath, officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Martin at First Charlotte Physicians and his staff who cared for Gary for many years. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to Dr. Eva Agocs at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews who made every effort on Garys behalf during his last days. We also want to thank the exceptional nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews and to our many friends and family who gave us their love and support during Garys illness. Obituary: Gary Randall Woody, Jr., 43, of Morganton, passed away unexpectedly 2, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Woody was born on 19, 1973 in Burke to Gary R. Woody, Sr. and Donna Kay Carver Woody. He was a veteran of the N.C. National Guard and CNC Router Programmer with Baker Furniture. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Buford and Valarie Carver. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Proffitt Woody of the home; his parents, Gary R. Woody, Sr. and Donna Kay Carver Woody of Morganton; his daughter, Kerianna Woody of Morganton; his brother, Kevin Woody of Morganton; two step-sons, Randy Castle and Eric Abel both of Morganton; his step-daughter, Renee Teuscher of Millington, TN; five step grandchildren and one great step grandchild; also surviving are his uncle and aunts, Kenneth and Gladys Schulze of Morganton and Gale McNeil of Boyton Beach, FL; mother-in-law, Beula Snead; and his cousin Le-Ann Schulze of Morganton. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. 6, 2017 in the Chapel of Heritage Service with Rev. Mark Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Obituary: Elna Mae Powell Woody died at Sunrise of Raleigh on 22, 2015. She was born on 10, 1925, to the late Rufus Clemmon and Mattie Workman Powell in Denton, NC. Elna graduated from East Carolina Teachers (now ECU) in 1946. That year she was voted Prettiest in her senior class. In 1948, Elna married Floyd Monroe Woody, who predeceased her in 2008. lived in Asheville, NC until 1959, when they moved to Raleigh with their two sons. Elna taught elementary school in the Wake School system for 20 years until she retired in 1981. She was reputed to have the gift of being able to teach even the most challenging young student how to read. retirement, Elna advanced her studies in oil painting, and became an award-winning amateur artist. In later years she excelled in miniature oil paintings. Elna is survived by her sons; Mike Woody of Charlotte, NC, and Chris Woody (Debbie) of Raleigh. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael Woody (Elizabeth) of Washington, DC, Brad Woody of Boston, MA, Drew Woody of Atlanta, GA, Christopher Woody of Raleigh, and Mary Beth Woody Gearino (Evan) of Raleigh. She was predeceased by her only sister, Aulene Henderson of Thomasville, NC. Services will be private. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers at Sunrise of Raleigh, and also to her team of caregivers from Transitions Lifecare.
