Obituary: Norma Euzelia Sires Wofford, 83, of Lenoir died , 16, 2011 at Shaire in Lenoir. Mrs. Wofford was born in Charleston, SC to the late Norman Gruber Sires and Billie Neese Sires. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. Wofford. She was retired from Sires Lumber and owner of the Yogurt Shop. She was a graduate of Furman University and a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC. Survivors include her sons, Edwin Jerome Wofford, Jr. of Orange City, FL and David Arthur Wofford of Richmond, VA; her daughter, Wendy Wofford McDaniel of Brown Mountain Beach, NC; a brother, Gruber Sires of Seneca, SC. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren to cherish her memory. A memorial service will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Highway 17 South in Charleston, SC , 23, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. The Wofford family requests that memorials be made to the Shaire , at 1450 Shaire Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645. Obituary: John Albert Wofford, 68, passed away morning, 3, 2015, at home. Born 6, 1946 in Gastonia, NC, he was a son of the late Bruce and Florence Wofford. He attended high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Belmont. He received his undergraduate at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and his Masters of Fine Arts at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife, partner, friend and companion, Fran Kelley; sisters, Betsy W. (Wayne) Bowers and Mary Wofford; brothers, Bruce Bud Wofford, Bill (Beth) Wofford, and Richard (Pat) Wofford; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wofford was an artist, teacher and musician. He was a woodwork instructor for the Gaston Skills workshop in Dallas, NC, a Sculpture-Woodworking Instructor/Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Sculpture Instructor for the Gaston Community in Dallas, NC. He received Purchase Awards in the following collections: Lannon Foundation Museum Collection, City National Bank Collection, and in the Northern Telecom Inc. Collection. His passion for creating art endured for his lifetime, and he filled many pages with sketches for new projects. John was adept at creating abstract sculpture by carving wood, shaping or casting metal, and traditional blacksmithing on his forge. His art has been represented by North and South Carolina galleries. John was also a talented and respected old-time musician, skilled at playing the guitar, mandolin, banjo, bouzouki and, his favorite, the fiddle. He wrote tunes and played with several bands over the years, and was a founding member of the Charlotte Folk Music Society. One of his remarkable accomplishments was building a house \ by himself! \ using lumber cut from the pine trees on their property. Inspired by Johns music and Frans love of the native ferns, they christened their home Fiddlehead, and shared it with multiple rescued pets. The family will gather for a private interment at a later date. Obituary: John Benjamin Wofford, MD., age 85, of Conover, NC, went to his Heavenly on , 11, 2014. Ben was born 7, 1929 to the late Robert Benjamin Wofford and Enola Cole of Oak Ridge, Louisiana. Dr. Ben was a man of principal and integrity and made no compromise. He felt his duty was to mankind. He entered medicine to truly help people in need. Dr. Ben loved life and his family. Dr. Ben married his true love and dearest friend and supporter Martha Jean Quillin on 6, 1954 and what a remarkable journey their life has been. Dr. Ben was very proud of the fact that he dropped out of school in high school to join the Navy and was part of WWII and was later recalled to take part in the Korean War. He later received his GED and went on to receive a bachelor degree from University of Tennessee. It was later and with a 5 year old child and a pregnant wife that he decided to return to Medical School. He practiced medicine in several different states ending up in 1976 in Conover, NC. Dr. Ben was well known in this area for helping those that fell through the cracks and needed help. He loved the mountains and on a weekly basis hiked to the top of Beacon Heights and at 85 did this in 18 minutes. Dr. Ben truly was concerned for his patients and their wellbeing. He loved to write and published 5 books. A great man, a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandparent and great grandparent he will be missed by many. Dr. Bens family carries a great concern to the people that had a large part of his heart, his patients. Jean cherishes a beautiful memory of being told everyday of how much he loved her. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Wofford, Robert Wofford; and sister, Catherine McClintock. Left to cherish his memories are wife of 60 years, Jean Wofford, son, Jeffrey Bryan Wofford and wife, Jennifer, of Newton, NC and their children Jessica and husband, Christopher Koenig and their daughter Stella Grace. William Jared Wofford and wife Denise, Dr. Bens youngest son James Benjamin Wofford, of CA memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on , 15, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Conover. Rev. Michael Moree will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on , 14, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Conover.
