Obituary: William Kimball Wylie Sr., age 72, died on , 7, 2015 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on 12, 1943 to the late Charles S. Wylie and the late Lola B. (nee: King) Wylie. Like the rest of us, William attended high school,…but his experiences were far different than most as he did so across the pond in Germany. He ultimately graduated from the American High School in Stuttgart. It wasn long after graduation that William found himself in the service of our country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Entering into active duty in Stuttgart, he was part of the Army Artillery Surveyor/Fire Control , and a member of the 101st Airborne Division during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Serving from 1961 to 1964, William attained the rank of Private First Class and was decorated for his skills with firearms as an expert marksman with rifles. The year 1964 also found William returning stateside and enrolling at Wayne State University where he began his studies toward a degree in Police Administration. In 1965, he was hired by the Detroit Police Department where he served as part of the motor section, and was one of the original members of the Detroit Police Honor Guard. 7 years of proving himself and meeting the criteria necessary, William was promoted in 1972 to the rank of Sergeant. A year later, he proudly accepted his Bachelors Degree in Police Administration from Wayne State University, having crossed his last T and dotted his last I in achieving the goal he had set for himself years earlier. With all this knowledge, education, and 6 more years of time on the force, the year was 1979 that Williams strengths and exemplary service were recognized with another promotion,…this time to the rank of Lieutenant. It was a very proud moment for this distinguished officer and gentleman. Amidst all of his education and police work, William managed to find the time to offer his expertise as part of the FBI National Academy as well. In 1993, he celebrated his 25th anniversary with the organization,…another proud moment in his career. Yet, the promotions hadn come to an end,…as it was that in 1999, William was recognized, once again, this time to the position of Inspector,…a lofty and worthy height for a man who always gave to his community and served as though every man was his brother. With all of the wonderful and noteworthy moments William had known to this point in his life, the ride was about to get even more special,…this time when he took his beloved Christine to be his wife and soul mate, a ceremony that was celebrated on May 26, 2000 aboard a boat on Lake St. Clair. This married Life really began to appeal to William, so a couple of years later he decided to hang up his hat and accept his well-deserved retirement from the Detroit Police Department and live a bit more free & easy with his bride, Christine. Somewhere in the middle of all this, William managed to buy a boat. It was an Excalibur that he named She Wolf. He was truly the Captain of his vessel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends aboard his floating Party Pad. When he took her out, he always tried to keep the excursions just under that infamous 3 hour tour. To all who were blessed to know William, theyll easily attest to the fact that he was generous and loyal to a fault,…yet he never saw it that way. And the generous ones never do! He couldn help but to give, it was simply part of the fabric which his character was woven by. He was bigger than life, and was renowned for being a consummate and caring leader. There were many things William enjoyed in life, but few that captured his heart like that of his precious grandchildren. He not only adored them, but doted on them immensely. were the light of his life and brought meaning to life that transcended any words he might have conveyed. certainly had much to be proud of in their Grandpa, and his love remains in the many coveted memories they made together over the years. As well with the many other loving family members and friends, Williams influence and inspiration leaves an impact that will never be forgotten and will surely be embraced with each reflection shared. He will truly be missed, and loved eternally. He was the beloved husband of Christine. Loving father of William Jr. (Michelle) Wylie, Beth Ann (Jeffrey) Walsh, Amy (Greg Gilbert) Engle, Jennifer Mason, and Erin (Scott) Myers. Devoted grandfather of Noelle, Leah, William III, Hannah (Andrew), James, Caelan, Jack, Emily Ann, Karissa, Dylan, and Reagan. Visitation for William will be held on , 12th from 3:00-9:00 pm, and from 10:00am until the time of his Service at 1:00 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons , 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to www.woundedwarriorproject.org Please share memories of William at his guest book above. |
