Obituary: Robert C. Worthington, P.E., age 82, died following surgery on , 1, 2016.. Bob was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on 27, 1933. Mr. Worthington is preceded in death by father George Clifford Worthington and mother Ruth Elizabeth (Sharples) Worthington of Rhode Island, a sister Dorothy McGreevy (Patrick). He is survived by spouse Dana Thatcher Worthington; his children: Bob Worthington, Jr. (Dece) Steven Worthington (Amy), Kimberly Myers (Billy) of Warrington, PA and David Worthington of New York City, four stepdaughters, Andrea (Rick) Fox, Stacie (Jeff) Quast, Sara (Joshua) Strand, and Stephanie Sabo; sister Bette Bousquet (Edgar) of Rhode Island and her two daughters; Bob is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Worthington will be remembered for his contributions during his 60-plus year career in the Fire Sprinkler Industry. Before, during and after earning his Engineering degree from University of Rhode Island in 1960, Bob pioneered groundbreaking fire protection technology through his leadership in innovative sprinkler system design, education, product design, manufacturing and logistics. In recognition of his life-long commitment to saving lives and protecting property from the ravages of fire, Bob was honored by the National Fire Sprinkler Association and U.S. House of Representatives with the prestigious Golden Sprinkler award in 1997. serving in executive leadership roles at industry-leading companies Star Sprinkler (PA) and Central Sprinkler (PA), Mr. Worthington purchased Standish-based Globe Sprinkler in 1988. During an era when U.S. manufacturing companies moved jobs overseas, Bob instead focused on keeping jobs in the US by exporting consistent high-quality US-made products through a worldwide network of distribution partners. While at home in Standish, Bob focused on improving production efficiencies and fostering strong partner relationships with suppliers. Globe Sprinkler has been honored twice in the past 3 years by the State of Michigan for its job creation and commitment to its employees. In both personal and professional life, Mr. Worthington believed in supporting the communities where he lived and work, and to further advance life safety through his active support and participation in professional fire protection associations. Among the charitable organizations Bob supported were the Good Samaritan less Rescue Mission in Bay City, Common Voices coalition for a Fire Safe America, and multiple summer camps for children that have suffered severe burns. Above all, Bob will be remembered for his passion, integrity, and commitment to relationships, be they family, friends, or business. Viewing will be open to the public at Penzien-Steele beginning at 1 p.m. and concluding with a service at 5 p.m. on , 5, 2016.
