Obituary: Mabel Arlene Winger, 92 Yarmouth - Mabel Arlene Winger, 92, a resident of Bay Square in Yarmouth, died peacefully in her sleep on evening, 16, 2014. Shortly before she went to bed, she said she was going to go see Harry, her husband of 64 years, who died in , 2012. Arlene was born in Mercer , in Western Pennsylvania, on May 8, 1922 to William C. and Maude Howe Ferver. Her father was a Presbyterian minister serving a farming community. Her family was poor but healthy and happy. Arlene attended Hickory High School in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She then attended Youngstown Business and later Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, Ohio, from which she graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Music degree. During World War II she worked in an office clerical position in a metal products plant in Youngstown, Ohio. Harry was "just one of the boys" she wrote to during the war. In 1947 and 1948, while she was being courted by Harry, she studied music in Massachusetts at Tanglewood and at the New England Conservatory of Music, and she worked as a secretary in Boston to Boris Goldovsky, the noted opera impresario. She married Harry in Boston on 19, 1948. Harry was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, so for the next several years Arlene lived in many different locations: Frankfurt, Germany; Tacoma, Washington; Springfield, Massachusetts; West Palm Beach, Florida; Tokyo, Japan; Cape Elizabeth, Maine. In 1962 Arlene and Harry moved to Allen Avenue in Portland, where they lived for 36 years. Throughout these years Arlene raised her three children (Larry, Douglas, and Janet) and continued to pursue her music career. She frequently performed as a voice soloist and directed choirs in Rhein-Main, Germany, Springfield, West Palm Beach, and Tokyo. While in Japan she directed and conducted a full performance of Handel's Messiah with orchestra and chorus. Starting in 1960, Arlene taught vocal music at Portland and Cape Elizabeth high schools for many years. She was music director for several shows at Lyric Theater and sang major roles in several productions, including "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Follies." She served as Managing Director of Co-Opera from 1975-1980. In addition, throughout these years she taught voice lessons at her private vocal studio in her home, until 1993. Arlene loved opera, and she frequently listened to the public radio opera broadcasts and attended opera performances, but she was unable to interest her children in opera. Arlene was an active member of many musical organizations, including the Marston-Kotzschmar Club, the Rossini Club, Symphony Women, the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and Lyric Theater. She sang in many church choirs over the years, including the Woodfords Church Choir and, in her later years, at a church in Jensen Beach, Florida. She only stopped singing in church choirs when she became physically disabled from doing so. Before her final years of disability, Arlene was always active and engaged. In 1984, at the age of 62, Arlene earned her second college degree, a BA from University of Southern Maine. Arlene was always attentive to her duties to her God, her family, and her friends. She was the center of her family and beloved by all. Her faith was strong. Arlene and Harry were active participants in their churches throughout their lives, and they were regulars at Woodfords Church in Portland from 1963 - 2012. lived their faith by donating generously to churches and charities and by volunteering regularly at the soup kitchen in Portland. Arlene is survived by her three children and their families: Lawrence Winger and his wife Holly of Falmouth and their children Charlie and Tommy; Douglas Winger and his wife Kathleen of Windermere, FL and their children Meghan, Carly, Brett, and Molly; and Janet Gauvin and her husband Russell of Portland and Janets children Sarah Kopencey and Greg Arbo. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Jack C. Ferver of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by her sister Janet Lynn of Twinsburg, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on , 28, 2014, at Woodfords Church, 202 Woodfords Street, Portland, with Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Obituary: Lewiston - Elwin W. "Manny" Wing Jr., age 58, of the West Record Rd. in East Poland, died unexpectedly early morning at CMMC with family at his side. He was born in Lewiston 13, 1953, a son of Elwin W. Wing Sr. and Roina F. Harrington. Manny was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School. On 1, 1977 he married the former Linda Sargent of New Gloucester and together they settled in East Poland to raise their family. Manny was currently working in his 32nd year at Poland Spring Bottling Corporation as a Maintenance Technician and was one of the longest tenured employees at the time of his passing. He enjoyed fun times with his family and loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Manny was a member of the 20M Club and was an avid collector of the unusual. He and his brother John collected and restored old bicycles and often entered them in antique auto shows, winning several categories along the way. Manny absolutely loved anything to do with Disney. He and his wife Linda took annual trips to Disney World and he always enjoyed his very favorite amusement ride, "Pirates of the Caribbean." Along with his wife and family, Mannys other love in life was his music. He was a talented, longtime & well-known local musician who played bass guitar in many local bands such as "Seizure", "Mean Streak" and "Wacked Cracker." But he especially enjoyed the last nine years playing music with his brother John, in a two-man group known as "Los Lazy Boys." He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father, grandfather and brother and a great friend who will be sadly missed. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Linda Wing of East Poland; his daughter Veronica Thibault and husband Marine GYSGT Daniel Thibault of North Carolina; his son Manny Wing of East Poland; three grandchildren Allyson, Daniel and Erin Thibault; his mother Roina Wing of Oxford; a sister Lorna Mack and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers Jeffrey Wing and wife Sandra of Lewiston, John Wing and wife Linda of Auburn and Timothy Wing and fiancee Mehgan Bernard of Oxford and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Elwin W.
