Obituary: Timothy Jay White YARMOUTH Timothy Jay White, 52, of Yarmouth and Carrabassett Valley died peacefully at home on , 13th after a courageous battle with ALS and pancreatic cancer. Born in Portland, Tim was the son of Donald and Barbara White. He graduated from Westbrook High School, Dean , and the University of Southern Maine. He was a proud Eagle Scout from Troop 70 Prides Corner, Westbrook. the sudden death of his father Donald in 1980, Tim left college for a short period of time to run the family business, White Brothers, with his brother Michael. Donalds death the business truly became White Brothers as they worked together to build the business into a well known, highly respected general contractor specializing in earthwork, roads and utilities. He served in almost every capacity of the business, and at his death had been general superintendent and vice president for many years. He loved and cared for the many men and women who worked for him over the years, and was recently eulogized as a kind and gentle man. He was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor, often playing practical jokes on employees throughout the day. He married the former Dorothy Patla in 1989, and the two began raising their family of three daughters in the home they built on Forest Lake in Cumberland. moved to Yarmouth in 1999, and Tim always said that it was one of the best decisions they ever made. He enjoyed working on their historic home on Greely Road and took great pride in maintaining its historic value. He also valued the many friends he made in the Yarmouth community. In 2007, Tim was awarded the Real Heroes Lifesaving Award from the American Red Cross of Southern Maine for helping to save the life of a fellow basketball player after he collapsed on the court during a mens league game. As a natural jokester, he got great mileage out of calling himself Yarmouths Hero, and used that title in his many humorous speeches within the community. Prior to the ALS diagnosis, Tim enjoyed skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain with his loved ones and playing basketball in the Town of Yarmouths mens league. Growing up, Tim developed a deep love of fishing while spending summers at the family camp on Little Sebago Lake. One of his greatest enjoyments as an adult was spending time at his lakeside cabin on Foss Pond, fishing its waters, always with his favorite Brittany, Hallie, along side him in the boat. Tim coached youth basketball when his daughters were young, and in recent years was an active member of the Yarmouth Basketball Boosters. As president of the boosters, he was instrumental in the construction of the outdoor basketball courts at Yarmouth High School. Tim served on the Board of Directors of the Westbrook Hospital, as well as on the Family Council of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. Through his personal and business life, his philanthropy reached many local non-profits, including Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding in Gray and the Morrison in Scarborough, as well as the Yarmouth youth basketball programs. He had a soft heart and easy, generous manner. Tim was an active, warm, loving, and often very funny and entertaining person. Underneath the jokes and humor was a strong, supportive husband and father who always put his family first. He will be affectionately remembered as Papa White to many teenagers in Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his father, Donald in 1980, and his oldest daughter, Annie Veronica, in 2005. Besides his wife Dorothy, he will be greatly missed by his daughters Elizabeth Beth White and Rachel White, both of Yarmouth; his mother, Barbara White of Portland, his brother Michael and wife Nikki of Westbrook, many nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held 17, 2010 from 4 to 8 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins , 199 Woodford St. Portland. A celebration of Tims Life will be held 18, 2010 at 12 noon at The First Parish Congregational Church, Main St, Yarmouth with the Revs Kent Allen and Robert White, cousin of Tim officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Moss Side , Cumberland. Obituary: SUSAN WHITE, 48 Winslow - Susan Ann White died with her family at her side at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on May 26, 2010. Susan was born in Waterville, Maine on May 21, 1962. Susan spent much of her life in North Vassalboro before moving to Winslow. Susan graduated from Winslow High School in 1981 and attended Bernards School of Beauty in Lewiston. She then worked for Pennys Hair Fashions on Main Street in Waterville for many years. Those close to Susan knew her as a one-of-a-kind, exceptional person who was courageous, inspirational and artistic. Susan was plagued from early childhood with a series of challenging illnesses that in many ways defined her lifes path. However, she was never heard to complain; with that big smile and sparkling eyes she always answered any inquiries about her health with Im fine. Im great! How are you? She had an inner spirit that lit up a room. Tony Rossignol, her love and devoted companion of 17 years, remarked it was impossible not to feel good when Susan was around, she just glowed. Susan and Tony spent many happy times camping, fishing and get-togethers with family and friends. Susan enjoyed making jewelry for her family and friends and even selling some pieces in the local area. She also loved to knit sweaters and scarves to share with the people she loved. Susan was predeceased by her mother Pauline (Sawtelle) White in 1993. She is survived by her father Abbott White of Vassalboro, her sister Laurie Stewart and husband Foster of Cape Elizabeth, her brother Scott White and wife Donna of Winslow, her brother David White and wife Heather of Walnut Creek, California, along with many aunts and uncles, two nieces and a nephew, and her dear companion Tony Rossignol of Cornville, together with his entire family. Susans family wishes to thank all of those friends and relatives who supported Susan through her illness and medical treatments. Visiting hours and service will be held May 29, 2010 from 10:00am to 12:00noon at Veilleux funeral 8 Elm Street, Waterville. With a service at 12:00 at Veilleux . Obituary: Durham- Ruth A. White 67, of Durham, died 27, 2015 at her home with her longtime, loving companion William at her side, after a long illness. She was born in Lewiston on 24, 1947 a beloved daughter of the late Elbridge Grant Harris Sr. and Mary Florence Harris. Ruth was employed at Eastland Shoe of Freeport as a Lacer for many years. She attended Auburn Schools and later attained her GED. Ruth was considered the Rock of her family, and she was always there to help. She enjoyed going to auctions and lawn sales, and traveling to the coast of Maine. She also enjoyed camping in northern Maine, maintaining her vegetable and flower gardens, her cats especially Peewee and Fluffy, studying birds and watching NASCAR every weekend, her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. She is survived by her companion William Bichrest, of Durham a daughter Julie Smith and her husband Ed, her three granddaughters Danielle, Abigail and Whitney all of Durham, two sisters Dorothy Campbell of Virginia, and Darlene Rose Harris of Auburn, a brother George Edward Harris of Auburn, a sister in law Robin of Auburn and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister Mary Barbara Harris, a brother Elbridge Joe Harris Jr. and her loving dog, Spanky. The family would like to send a very special thank you to the entire staff at The Hospice House for the exceptional care they gave to Ruth. She will be sorely missed by family and friends, and her passing creates a void that will never be filled. |
