Obituary: Merle John Wardenburg passed away in Scottsdale on 12, 2016 at the age of 91 after a brief illness. He was born on 31, 1924 to Anton Carl Wardenburg and Mary Maas Wardenburg in Williamsburg, Iowa on a small farm. He graduated from Dysart High School in 1942. He joined the army in 1945 and served through the occupation of Japan. his discharge, he returned to the farm for a short time and married Lillian Donley in 1947. relocated to southern California and two years later moved to Phoenix where he went to work for Arizona Public Service. In 1957 he was selected to program the first business mainframe computer used in Arizona. He later became a manager of computer operations and stayed at APS for 30 years. He also received an AA in business from Phoenix . In 1980 he married Lorraine Haumont and retired from APS a year later. Merle loved golf, tennis and bridge and played them all several times a week. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Mary Wardenburg, his sister Lorene Schaeffer and his brother Milford Wardenburg. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, sister Barbara Tritch (Richard Tritch)of Sun City West, sons Mark Wardenburg (Alana Hunter) of Palo Alto, CA and Michael Wardenburg of Las Vegas, daughter Michelle Moyer of Phoenix, grandchildren Erik and Marla Wardenburg and Natalie Moyer and numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held 22 at 11:00am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley with an open casket viewing at the church from 10:30-11:00am. Burial will follow at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Mortuary & , 719 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix. Donations in memory of Merle may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church of Paradise Valley. |
