Obituary: Virginia Belle Watkins, age 99, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on May 27, 2016 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital. Virginia was born near Carthage, Illinois on May 16, 1917 to Samuel Albert Jones and Mary Ethel Moesch Jones. Virginia married Wayne Watkins on 15th, 1935. He preceded her in death on 24, 2007. Virginia loved her flower garden and making porcelain dolls which she lovingly gave to family and friends. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Fort Madison. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Thatcher of Boca Raton, Florida, Janet Rooney of Donnellson, Iowa and Charlotte (Don) Appledorn of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, 7-grandchildren, 17-great grandchildren and 7-great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson. The family would like to thank Janice and Dave Campbell and Lynn and Dick Fehseke as well as her many dear friends for the loving care they gave her over the years. Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk & Crematory. A private family graveside service will be held at Sharon Presbyterian at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the P.A.W. Animal Shelter or St. Judes Childrens Hospital and memorials may be sent to Janet Rooney, 2748 211th Avenue, Donnellson, IA 52625. Obituary: Rachel Jessie Watkins, daughter of Ernest and Retta Hester, was born 27, 1939 in Virginia. Rachel died May 13, 2017 in Perry at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Al Seeman, with whom she had shared a home for many years. Those years were mutually very special. Rachel enjoyed being a caregiver for Debs family and they enjoyed her companionship, unconditional love, and unbridled spirit. A Celebration of Life Service was held May 19,2017 at Hastings , Perry, Iowa from 4-7 p.m. Rachel had grown up under difficult circumstances, but always persevered with honesty and hard work. She worked in management for convenience stores, monitoring and correcting procedures for over 20 years. Rachel was married to Melvin Murphy and they lived in Gainesville, FL. his death, she moved to Iowa to live near her family. Rachel loved to be busy: cleaning, gardening, and cooking her delicious comfort foods. But most of all, she loved her grandchildren and they loved her, treasuring the time they could be together. To sum it up, she understood how the world works, and shared that invaluable knowledge with her family. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and husband Melvin. Her family will miss her dearly and cherish their many memories…daughter Deb Seeman and husband Al of Perry; three granddaughters, Sarah Swift of Boone; Merissa Wise of Des Moines, and Emily Seeman of Des Moines, two much loved great- grandchildren, Rachel Swift and Rowan Wise-Chevalier; and Evelyn Seevers of Belpre, OH, who she loved as a daughter; and friends. In deep gratitude, the family respectfully requests memorials in Rachels name to Unity Point Hospice Foundation, 1415 Woodland Avenue, Ste. E 200, Des Moines, Iowa 50309, in lieu of flowers. Obituary: Richard H. Watkins, 83, of Malcom, died on , 23, 2015, at the Grinnell . A family prayer service will be held on , 27, 2015, at the Smith in Grinnell with Rev. Keith Morrison of Grinnell Regional Hospice officiating. A flag presentation will be conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Richard was born on 24, 1931, in Grinnell, Iowa to Howard and Tilla Rutherford Watkins. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1949. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served at the Naval Communication Station in Pearl Harbor and on the U.S.S. Frontier. his discharge from the Navy he returned to Grinnell and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Grinnell. Survivors include his wife, Johanna Watkins of Malcom; as well as his adult children; grandchildren; great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his former wife, Jolene Prather Watkins. |
