Obituary: We celebrate the life of Barbara Joyce (Barb) Williams who passed away peacefully on 13, 2017 at Presence Cor Mariae in Rockford, Il. Barb was born in Rockford, IL. Oct. 24, 1928, to Luander and Olga ( Johnson) Barrett. Barb is survived by, children, Terry L. (Marilynn), Gerald W. (Laraine) Williams; grandsons Matthew and Corey Williams ; granddaughters Valorie (Dino) Corsolini ,Amy (Rob) Jacobson, Erin Ashleigh (Don) Smith; great-grandchildren, Maggie Jacobson, Douglas Smith; sister, Francis Ziemendorf ; brother-in-law, Donald Williams; sister-in-law Ledora Williams; son-in-law, Pete Keith. Predeceased by parents; her beloved husband of 68 years Robert John (Bob) Williams; daughter, Verna Jean Keith; six older sisters. She has now joined her family members and all the other saints that have gone before. Barb was a lifelong resident of Rockford. She attended Rock River Elementary School and Rockford East High School, graduating in 1946. Go E-Rabs! Barb was active with her husband in several Rockford churches over the years. Bethlehem Lutheran on Brooke Road where she met and married Bob, Bethlehem Lutheran on 20th Street, recently Brooke Road United Methodist Church. Obituary: Barbara Ann Williams, 78, of Litchfield and formerly of Springfield, beloved wife, fearless mother of five, drum corps chaperone, and fiber arts enthusiast, died on 1, 2016 at Alhambra . Barb (Bobbie Ann to her Winch family) was born to John and Josephine (Winch) Forsyth on 28, 1938 in Springfield, IL. Her mother died the same day. Separated from her father and older siblings and raised as an only child by her adored aunt, Barbara (Winch) Mendenhall, under difficult financial circumstances, she was sharp-witted and observant, utterly dependable, and impulsively nurturing, and there were a great many people whom she loved and who loved her. Barb was preceded in death by her birth parents, her adoptive mother (aunt) Barbara, her brother John Forsyth and her sister Mary Owens. Barb married Dean C. Williams on 9, 1955. met in high school. She was known as Bobbie Ann then, a long-legged, slender redhead with a glamorous smile. She had grown up doing her homework at the counter of Winch Flower Shop, the family business, where her now-single mom worked long hours. The skills of flower arranging stayed with her all her life-she could repurpose a funeral spray into a breakfast bouquet with a change of vases and a few deft cuts, but she majored in home economics in high school because she wanted stability, a big family, which and she found with the sweet, taciturn, handsome young man who built houses with his uncle every summer, Dean. He always called her Barbara, except when he was pretending to be pompous, she reported with laughter, and called her, while pointing and arching a brow, "Hey, you." Dean got a job that turned into a career with the phone company, and after a few years, they settled into a house that her adoptive mom, who was dying, helped them to finance from her life savings. had five children in eight years: they were very busy. "Your dad always wanted another baby," she would tell her kids, but the truth was they were both suckers for children their whole lives. Their house was a neighborhood hangout. were boy scout and girl scout leaders and later drum and bugle corps parents heavily involved in the running of the Capital Chargers and the Statesmen, now-defunct youth groups that brought kids-mostly teenagers-together from throughout the city of Springfield and surrounding communities, from every race and economic class, to play band instruments and staff the color guard (the members who carry flags and dummy rifles), to march in parades and compete in football-field shows, and to be wrapped in the arms of a community that loved them fiercely. Barb was one of a group of amazing women, warm and tireless friends to one another, mothers who traveled with the corps and made sure that every kid was taken care of, that every kid was loved. Those women did something remarkable. When the Chargers merged with another corps, the Falcons, to form a new and larger corps, the Statesmen, the mothers joined forces to outfit the kids. There wasn't much money to cover start-up expenses, so the drum corps mothers bought fabric, patterns, thread, and notions, and sewed uniforms on their own machines at a fraction of the cost of commercially made uniforms for more than a hundred kids. The effort was epic, involving the measurement and several fittings of each kid, thousands of yards of fabric to keep track of in private living rooms and commandeered bedrooms, inset zippers and fasteners, and a full complement of military-style epaulets, metal buttons, and decorative ribbons for every uniform. Barb was the general who ran this campaignled this effort. Her sewing experience gave her the skills to approach the task, but it was her loyalty and determination that allowed her to finish it. It's an accomplishment that won't get written into history books. There are no awards ceremonies that would honor it, but mothers do its like every day. Barb had a passion for the fiber arts. She loved what she could make with a sewing machine. She sewed clothing for her children when they were young, but her interest in the fluidity and construction of fabric turned less useful and more artistic as her talents matured. She cultivated serious interests in first machine knitting and then weaving, ways of making fabric rather than merely manipulating it. She was equally intrigued by kitschy, mass-appeal themes and more rarefied abstract, organically colored patterns, and indifferent to the distinction. The point wasn't to make marketable material for either the hoi polloi or the discriminating, but simply to make material from the web and the woof of thread or yarn. Watching her work was an experience; her attention was somehow both dreamy and intense. She was an artist without a vocation, a serious amateur. Now they call it outsider art. Alongside her family responsibilities, Barb had a sporadic work life that followed the vagaries of her husband's several long intervals of union-led strikes. Among various businesses, to supplement the family income, she worked at Sandy's and Kmart, at S&H Trading with her great boss and good friend Maye Ozier, and at Baskin-Robbins with another great boss and good friend Glenn Yanow. She was the kind of employee you can trust and depend on and confide in, the kind you don't easily let go. his retirement, Barb and Dean moved to Riverton, IL, but they also hit the roads in their RV. managed to see both oceans and the Grand Canyon. documented visiting all 48 contiguous states. For the most part, though, they traveled to the places their kids had dispersed to, to visit and help build, renovate, and fix their houses, to attend family reunions and weddings, to see their grandkids. Obituary: Barbara J Williams, 82, of Peoria passed away at 3:15 am 28, 2015 at Heartland Manor in Peoria. She was born 16, 1933 in Peoria to Nelson and Myrtle Shippee Young. She married Robert Williams on 14, 1954. He preceded her in death on 8, 1988. Barbara is survived by one son, Robert (Cheryl) Williams of Pekin; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Nanette Crew; one sister, Isabelle Shaffer; and one brother, Ronald Bill Young. Barbara was a bus driver for Concordia Lutheran. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Barbara was an avid bowler. She was a pitcher for the Pekin Lettes. Services will be at 11:00 am , 3 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Austin was loved by all. He was a very outgoing boy who loved playing with the Wii that he got for Christmas. He also loved bakugans, hot wheels, trucks and his Nintendo DS. He will be missed by everyone. Services will be at 10 a.m. , Jan. 13, 2010 at Remmert in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
