Obituary: Gloria Ann Whitehurst (Parr) died peacefully at Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Duluth Ga., after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 72. Gloria is survived by her 2 daughters Susan Criswell and Jennifer Whitehurst, daughter in law Carrie Whitehurst, 6 grandchildren: Ashley Criswell (Justin Tate), Ian Criswell, Alex Criswell, Rachael Valdez (Richard Valdez), Michael Gregory, Laura Gregory and 4 great grandchildren, Brianna Tate, Andrew Tate, Kensleigh M. Criswell and Elaina Valdez. Gloria is also survived by her brother Franklin Parr and her sister Betty Dunlap (Harold Dunlap), in addition to many nieces and nephews. Gloria is proceeded in death by her beloved husband Larry Whitehurst, her son Larry Alan Whitehurst, her brother in heart John D. McIntyre, her mother Maggie Lee Parr, and her father Henry Allen Parr. Gloria was born in Columbus, GA. on May 16th 1944 to Henry and Maggie Parr. Gloria moved to Alaska in the early 70's and became the South Eastern Regional Manager for the DFACS in Anchorage, Alaska, where she retired and moved back to GA., to continue her work in human resources for the State of GA., retiring after 18 loyal years of service. Gloria was a woman of honor and courage, full of love for people and had a strong belief in Jesus Christ. She devoted her life to her family and will be missed beyond words. A funeral is scheduled on , May 5th of 2017, at 3 pm. It will be located at Striffler- Hamby , 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus Ga. A visitation will precede the funeral from 1:30 until 2:55 pm. Obituary: Gertrude Buck Whitehurst, 92, passed away , 23, 2011. Gertrude Whitehurst was the daughter of the late William F Buck and Eva Williams Buck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper "Jack" L Whitehurst; a brother, Tyree Buck; and two sisters, Ruth Venters and Mildred McLawhorn. She retired as the owner of Anchor Christian Bookstore in Norton, VA. Mrs. Whitehurst was a member of the Ayden Free Will Baptist Church in Ayden, NC and attended Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, GA. She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Brugh (Bob) of Athens, GA; a son, Charles Whitehurst (Shirley) of Greensboro, NC; a granddaughter, Sherry Kurpis; six grandsons, Craig Brugh, Daniel Brugh, Matt Whitehurst, Chris Whitehurst, Ryan Whitehurst and Cory Whitehurst; seven great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 3 pm , 27 at the Bethel in Bethel, NC with the Rev. Harry Grubbs officiating. Family will receive friends at Bernstein , 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and at Ayden Freewill Baptist Church, 611 Third St, Ayden , 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Athens. Obituary: Tom J. Whitehead, 78, of Peachtree City, GA passed away 17, 2014 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Albertville, AL and was a US Army Veteran. He was an air traffic controller and retired from the FAA in Atlanta, GA. Following his retirement he traveled extensively throughout the world in various positions with aircraft parts companies, supervising major commercial aircraft maintenance projects. Additionally, he worked for several years as a volunteer with intercountry adoption agencies. He loved all things aviation and for many years he built and flew model airplanes. In recent years he was an avid woodworker. Tom is survived by Margaret, his wife of 48 years, a son David Whitehead of Birmingham, AL, and daughters Terri Vannatter (Larry) of Birmingham, AL, Kay Pond, Birmingham, AL, Kathryn Oliver (Harold) of Trussville, AL, Kimberly Brandt-Nielsen (Jorgen), of Peachtree City, GA, and Juliane Santiago (Marc) of Fletcher, NC; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Jacobs of Newnan, GA. A memorial service will be held on , 10, 2015 at 2:00pm in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley in Peachtree City, GA. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Obituary: Suzette Booth Whitehead, 59, of Danielsville, passed away , 5, 2015. A native of Oglethorpe , Ms. Whitehead was a daughter of the late Henry Milton Booth and Hazel Armour Booth. She was employed by Athens Allergy and Asthma Clinic for over 10 years. Survivors include daughters, Kelli Whitehead, Nicole Whitehead and fiancé, Joshua Allen, all of Danielsville; former husband, Eugene Whitehead; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Booth Brubaker and Wayne Brubaker of Crawford; grandchildren, Benjamin Porcelli, Zachary Allen and a third grandchild due in . She was a loving mother and grandmother, called Gigi by her grandchildren. Memorial services will be held , 8 at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Church with Pastors Scott Sheppard and Robert Sheppard officiating.
