Obituary: 1951-2010 Childhood Start Wu was born on 11, 1951, and was the second child born into the family. His father believed that education and dedication was a critical foundation for success and from this, all his children experienced a much more stringent upbringing than their peers. Focusing on hard work, Start spent much of his childhood in the rice and pineapple fields, orange groves and various other agricultural environments. From the meticulous family education and the assiduous life experience in his childhood, he developed the diligent, unremitting, fearless, humanitarian, and humble lifestyle. He used these building blocks to create his future. Studies, Industry, and Marriage Start graduated from the Minghsin University of Science and Technology in 1972 and received an outstanding alumnus award in 2005. This award highlighted Starts achievements as a successful businessman and philanthropist. Always thinking of his potential, he was anxious to take control of his destiny and develop his own future. 2 years of military service, he worked at the Ai Wang developing kitchen equipment. In 1975, he married his lovely wife Tsai-Hui. In 1976, he started an undertaking together with a schoolmate Mr. Phillip Tao, establishing Chien Luen Industries , Limited. In 1978, his eldest son, John, was born. Because of technological advancements, he headed his company towards the production of ceiling fans; which would then become his lifelong passion. Travel to the US To provide customers more effective communication and service, Start resolutely decided to move to Florida in 1981. Florida, being one of the largest markets for ceiling fans, was where he started the American company King of Fans in 1982. His second son, James, was soon born in 1983. As a result of hard work and quality, the King of Fans products began to quickly spread throughout the US. At the same time, King of Fans became one of The Depots most important trading partners. Today, Starts enterprise is world-wide spreading across the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and also in the US, with a staff of over 7000 people. In the US, yearly sales volumes have been over 3.5M in ceiling fans and accounts for nearly 30% of the entire US total ceiling fan sales volume. Having numerous patents, King of Fans has truly developed the electric fan reputation worthy of its name. Its product line has extended into high velocity fans, tower fans, landscape lighting, decorative lighting, electric heaters and even solar energy products. Never stopping and always wanting to move forward, Start in 1994, purchased a large-scale shrimp farm in Puerto Rico. In 1996 the shrimp seedling was cultivated successfully, and developed into the worlds first vertically integrated shrimp breeding field. Because of his successful enterprises and his philanthropy into public welfare, in 1998 Start had the honor to receive the award for Model for Overseas Young Entrepreneur from the Taiwan Government. In order to grasp the technical core of solar energy, Start purchased an energy development center located in Pittsburgh in , 2003. Establishing Solar Power Industries; the manufacturer of solar energy cells which would then become one of the five largest solar companies in the US. From here on, he would enter the high tech industry of silicon crystals. Starts vision, work ethic and undeniable drive made him a truly a great businessman. Loving the country, loving his hometown, loving the earth Start and Tsai-Hui were very active in both politics and business; they spared no effort for many years in assisting the Taiwan government with diplomacy and trade, promoting the relations between Taiwan and Florida; contributing greatly to the economic relationship and trade between them. Love and care Start was very loving to his wife, and always realized how grateful he was to have her in his life. In each charitable foundation, they positively supported the cause to the furthest extent and attentively participated in each charity including the Tzu Chi Foundation, Fo Guang Shan/Buddhas Light International Association and different government charities. He is a model of not just his successful career, but also of his contribution to society. He was also very supportive of his wife, Tsai Hui, as she took the post of Overseas Chinese Affair Committee member twice. In addition, Starts love and helping hand not only applied to the ones he knew, but towards many other Chinese as well. Start was very enthusiastic in supporting the future generation. He supported most of the Chinese Schools in different counties in Florida. His contributions and influence were always second to none. By adding up all his accolades and positive feedback from the Chinese Society there has been no one to his equal. The mourning of their son Mothers Day in 2007, to Start, was a day which would be unforgettably engraved in his memory. His deeply loved second son, James, passed away quietly on campus. For the next two-and-a-half years, even while being in a successful enterprise, there was not a day that went by without feeling the loss of that day, it was an unforgettable pain. But his love for his son was even strengthened further. The conclusion of the symbol of life Although Start spent many years in the field of manufacturing and business, he still took care of his health. Start was an avid golfer. Moderation was his motto for eating healthy. However, at the end of 2009, while on official business travel, he suddenly felt ill, and decided to immediately return to the US for diagnoses. On 16, 2010, in the presence of his wife, eldest sister, eldest son, nephew and niece by his side, accompanied by dozens of close family friends, in the intensive care unit of Jackson Memorial Hospital; under the guidance of Buddhist chants guided by continued... |
