Obituary: Charlotte Gibson Wilson, 98, a resident of Indian River Estates, Vero Beach Fl. since 1996, died Oct. 27th 2013, of natural causes. Charlotte, sometimes known as Char by friends and Dutch or Aunt Dutch by relatives, was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana on 5, 1915. She was the daughter of Tennie Ida and Roy Gibson. She had one sister, Helena, who predeceased her. She spent her growing up years in Jeffersonville, graduated from high school as Valedictorian of her class and then married her high school sweetheart, Charles Dillman in 1936. Over the years, Charlotte attended a number of business classes and was employed in a variety of offices. Most notable was her time as office manager for the Kraft Foods District Manager in Miami, Fla., secretary for the Battle Creek, Michigan Council of Churches, and as the Administrative Assistant to the Property Appraiser in Punta Gorda Fla, where she retired in 1983 at age 68. From Jeffersonville, Indiana, she and her husband Charles, lived in Prior, Oklahoma for a short time during the war where her husband worked for the war effort in the powder plant there. It was here that their son, Charles Robert (Chuck) was born. the war, they returned to Indiana for a short time but then moved to Miami, Fla. where relatives had re- located. It was here that her daughter, Suanne, was born. Charlotte raised her children in Miami Springs and looked back on Miami always as a wonderful place to live in the 50s and 60s. Sadly, the childrens father, Charles, died suddenly at age 59. her husbands death, she met a longtime friend of her Sisters family who lived in Michigan. were married and spent a brief period of time in Battle Creek, Michigan before moving to Port Charlotte in 1971. Some years later, Charlotte found herself widowed again. Shortly thereafter, she married a fellow golfer, Edgar E. Wilson. Her few years with Edgar were very endearing to her. Unfortunately, Edgar passed away shortly after their move to Vero Beach from complications related to Parkinsons disease. Charlotte was always active in her church and in her community. She and her family spent many memorable years in the First Christian Church of Miami. She continued her fellowship in the Port Charlotte United Methodist church and the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach. Charlottes faith always sustained her. Those she met and loved within the church were a constant support to her in faith and spirit as the years passed. Within the communities she lived in, Charlotte was an active member in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 40 years, Pilot Club, Legal Secretaries Association, Kiwanianne, American Business Womens Assoc. , Womens Club, Port Charlotte Yacht Club, Punta Gorda Country Club, and served on the Residents Executive Board at Indian River Estates. Charlotte also stayed busy while retired at Indian River Estates. She loved music and was a member of the Vero Beach Jazz Society, played the organ in her apartment and attended the musical presentations at IRE when possible. She also loved the theatre and enjoyed going to plays in Melbourne, Riverside and Theater guild. Shopping was a hobby, along with playing bridge, sewing, antiques and going to the beach. Most of all, Charlotte loved people. Her family came first in her life. were her treasure and she will be sorely missed by them. Charlotte also treasured her friends and felt so blessed to have had so many fine people close to her in her long life. The family wants to thank all those wonderful folks who were so good to her along the way. Surviving Charlotte, is her daughter, Suanne D. Miller and Son-In-Law, Dr. Edward L. Miller of Chico, Ca. , a grandson, Bryan E. Miller, granddaughter-in-law, Lauren and great grandson, Harrison Miller of San Diego, Ca., a step-grandson, Nathan Hagerman of Hong Kong, a niece, Maryellen Hinton and her husband, Richard , of Elkhart, Indiana, two grand-nephews, Patrick Hinton of Walpole, Mass., and Michael Hinton of Indianapolis, Indiana, and step daughter, Midge Wilcox of Battle Creek, Mi. Her son, Charles, died of cancer in 2009. A memorial service will be held at Indian River Estates, with Chaplain William Mead presiding, on Sat. Nov. 16 in the multipurpose room in Willow Brooke Ct./ Indian River Estates at 10:30 a.m.. An Interment will be held at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, FL on , 17, 2013 at 1:30pm. Charlottes friends are welcome to attend this service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, the Student Scholarship Fund at IRE or a charity of your choice. are under the care of Aycock in Fort Pierce, FL. |
