Obituary: The family of Myrna Vest is saddened to announce her passing from congestive heart failure on 8, 2017. She was deeply grounded in her Christian faith which guided her unconditional love of family and friends, strong principles and unwavering hope for the future. Myrna and Jim, who met in high school, were married for 70 years. Myrna was born and raised in her beloved Huntington WVA. She was a stellar student, classical pianist, tutor to other students and enjoyed local high school football games with her parents, with whom she was extraordinarily close. Myrna received a scholarship to Mary Baldwin , which was the only way her father would let her leave Huntington. She attended Mary Baldwin until she and Jim were married, at which time she attended and graduated from Farmville State Teachers as Jim was finishing his degree in chemical engineering close by. Myrna and Jim lived in Wilmington DE for 65+ years. Beyond her family and friends, Myrnas greatest passion was gardening, a wonderful trait she inherited from her mother and carried throughout her life. She found particular joy in growing orchids, which she generously shared with family and friends. Another passion was travelling. Myrna and Jim were fortunate to have traveled to most parts of the world, accompanied often by her parents and/or children. Myrna was a great communicator both in speaking and in writing. She effortlessly kept up with all past and present friends, sending cards on every significant date often accompanied by at least one newspaper clipping, demonstrating that she was thinking about you. One of her greatest joys in life was the group of very dear friends, known as he best friends, with whom she shared most of her adult life. all knew each other before children came along, considered each other extended family, were all Godparents to the others children and often vacationed together. For 60+ years, Myrna and Jim spent winters with her parents in Ft. Lauderdale FL. Myrna faithfully attended the Episcopal Church throughout her life and was a member of St. Albans Church for 50+ years, serving on Vestry and other committees. She is survived by her husband of 70 years James M. Vest Jr. of Wilmington DE, Anne Vest Marstiller of Middleburg VA, her husband Philip S. Marstiller, George G. Vest of Wilmington DE, three grandsons William N. Vest of Lin Ye City China, his wife Aurora, Thomas M. Vest also of Lin Ye City and Paul Vest of Charlotte, NC. Myrna is predeceased by a son James M. Vest III. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on 10, 2017 at St. Albans Church, 913 Wilson Road in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Myrnas memory to Holy Cross Hospital 4725 N. Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale FL 33308 or the Delaware Orchid Society.

Obituary: Mildred Ann Nelson Venables, 87 passed away on , 2, 2014. Mildred was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on 30, 1926, and spent most of her life in Upland & Aston, PA. She was an accomplished dance instructor, model and a friend to children and animals alike. She was the mom handing out candy, popsicles and drinks from her back door on Griffith Street in Upland and the lady helping animals in need. Mildred was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan. The Eagles and Phillies have lost a cheerleader this week. She was predeceased by her parents Herman and Aldred Nelson (originally from Crisfield Md.), sister Alice N. Lafferty, brothers Oris Nelson, Carroll Nelson, Roy Nelson and Ronald Nelson. Mildred will be dearly missed by her daughter Alice Martinelli, granddaughter Jacqueline Kalil, her son in law Robert Martinelli and extended friends and family in Delaware , DE and Yonkers NY. She will also be missed by lifelong friends Florence McClintock and Jeanne Scarpato, who were always there to help and cheer her on. Betsy Bittner and family of Aston will also miss the friend they helped for years. Mildred most recently found a great friend in Judy Graham, who joined her loved ones in helping her fight the Lymphoma battle. If love alone could heal….both Betsy and Judy would have made this obituary unnecessary at this time! Mildred was also very thankful for her friendship with Donnie and Gail Mangino and the unending love and care they provided to her and her beloved cat Gizmo. The family would like to thank all of these wonderful folks who helped enrich and extend the life of this wonderfully strong woman. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mamerto Lebita and staff for providing years of excellent health care, Dr. Andrew Solan and staff, the loving care providers at Delaware Hospice, Heartland Hospice and Griswold and the many others too numerous to mention. Obituary: William W. Venable III, Bumpa, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on 3, 2015. Bill was born on 17, 1927 in Camden, New Jersey to Margaret and William Venable, Jr. and grew up in Collingswood, Oak Lyn and Haddonfield, NJ. At the age of five, Bill joined the adult choir at church and sang in the church choir for many years. Bill always appreciated everything that had to do with music and sang in various groups throughout his life, including in a barbershop quartet for 19 years. He was very active in many clubs and projects throughout high school, including the school paper, for which he served as sports editor. He also wrote freelance pieces for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Courier-Post in Camden, NJ. Bill sang in an octet, quartet, a choir and the glee club in high school, as well as sang for three years in the New Jersey State Chorus. He became an Eagle Scout in 1943 at the age of 16, and was an active member of the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1945. Bill joined the Navy in 1945 and trained as a corpsman at San Diego Hospital in California. He then went to Corona Naval Hospital, where he was stationed for the rest of his two-year enlistment. During his time in the Navy, Bill worked with paraplegics and quadriplegics. He finished up his days at the hospital working as a pharmacist. Being in the Navy never stopped Bill from singing, however; while serving, he also sang in a Navy barbershop quartet, as well as with the internationally-known Blue Jackets Choir. When Bill returned home, he became involved with the Haddonfield Choral Society for Operettas and performed in many shows in southern New Jersey. Every , he also sang duets at different area churches with female partners. In 1948, he attended the Charles Morris Price School of Journalism and Advertising in Philadelphia, PA and graduated two years later. graduation, Bill accepted a position at DuPont in Wilmington. He worked for the company in its advertising department for 40 years. Two years later, Bill was set up on a blind date by friends in Pennsylvania, where he met his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Jane Venable. married in 1952. Throughout his life, Bill volunteered for United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, Inc. and served on its Board of Directors. He also volunteered at the organizations Camp Manito in Wilmington for many years. Bill and Betty gave birth to their only daughter, Judith Ann, in 1959 in Wilmington. were both charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Bill later served as an elder at the church. He retired from DuPont in 1985, and then spent 17 years traveling as a tour escort for two independent travel companies. As an escort, Bill led groups on extensive trips in the U.S. and abroad. He and Betty went on many cruises together. Bill thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, including his two granddaughters. Both music and travel were his true passions, and it was singing, performing and taking trips that he enjoyed most in life. Bill is predeceased by his daughter, Judith Venable Crowe, and his wife, Betty Jane Venable, both of Wilmington. He is survived by his sister- and brother-in-law, Joanne and Maurice Worley, of Wyncote, PA and their son and daughter; his son-in-law, G. Donald Crowe, of Richmond, VA.; his granddaughter, Jillian Crowe Katz and husband Russell Katz, of Raleigh, NC and granddaughter Kaitlin H. Crowe, of Baltimore, MD. Memorial services will be held , 16th at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
