Obituary: Margaret Vargas, 87, of Greeley, passed away 14th, 2014. Margaret was born in Llano, New Mexico to Eloy Muniz and Nicanora (Gonsalez) Muniz on 19th, 1926. Margaret was married to Prudencio Martinez in 1949 and later divorced. She married Leo Vargas in 1978 and was married until his death in 2000. Margaret was wise, gentle, kind, loving, and loyal. She was loved by many and was always there for everyone. Margaret was a homemaker and stay at home mom. She was an excellent cook. Margaret's trademark dishes were prune pie and baked bread. Margaret is survived by 5 daughters, Teresa Martinez of Brighton, Helen "Elaine" Rivera, Marcella (Nacho) Holguin, Patsy (Juan) Holguin, and Brenda Martinez of Greeley; 3 sons, Prudencio Martinez Jr. of Denver, Arnold Martinez, Jerry Martinez of Commerce City, 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband- Leo Vargas, sister- Ida Garcia, brother- Elias "George" Muniz, grandson- Jerome Martinez, great grandchildren- Juan Francisco Ramos Jr. and Emily Ramos. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. , 19, 2014 at Stoddard . service at 11:00 a.m. , 20, 2014 at First Assembly of God. Interment Mizpah , Platteville. Obituary: Lucy Varela, 73, died 6, 2015, following a short illness. She was born in Nambe, New Mexico on 15, 1942 to Romanita Ortiz and Antonio Gardunio. She moved with her family to Salida, Colorado in the 1950s were she attended school. Ms. Varela worked as a nurses aide at the Salida Hospital and waitresses at several local restaurants. Ms. Varela moved to Denver in the seventies and worked at Samsonite till her retirement. She then worked at the Lodge Casino until the late 1990s. Ms. Varela was preceded in death by her parents, her step father Max Perea, brothers Gilbert and David, sisters Fermina Valdez and Dolores Valerio, her step siblings Jeannie Mestas and Felix Perea. She is survived by her husband Gil Varela, daughter Monica (Arnulfo) Banuelos, brothers Roy (Isabelle), Joe, Amos (Connie) and Manuel (Wilma) Gardunio and sister Elisa Gonzales, brother in law Steve Valerio and several nephews and nieces. Ms. Varela loved going to Black Hawk and Central City to play the slots. She was an avid reader, and was known for her fun approach to life. She was young at heart and her family will always remember her fun loving spirit and feistiness. |
