Obituary: Billy Sam Vowell, M.D., a family physician in practice in Irving, Texas for thirty-five years, passed away peacefully at home on , 26, 2015, in Dallas. He was 88. Born in rural Henderson near Mabank, Texas to Lee S. Vowell and Finis Cook Vowell on 8, 1927, Bill volunteered at age seventeen, in 1944, for the U.S. Naval Reserve and served aboard the USS Effingham, a troop transport amphibious ship, in the invasion of Okinawa in the Pacific Theater of World War II. his honorable discharge from USNR in , 1946, Bill met and fell in love with Mary L Mitchell, daughter of Lucille F. Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell, at a Valentines Day party. The couple married on 4, 1947, enjoying a happy marriage for 65 years, until Marys death on 10, 2012. had one son, Timothy Sam Vowell, born May 16, 1959. Bill and Mary enjoyed playing bridge, ballroom dancing and being with their close-knit family at every opportunity. Bill Vowell received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Methodist University in 1957 and a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Southwestern Medical School Branch of the University of Texas, Dallas in 1959. scoring the highest general average grade of 92.5 on the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners licensing examination given that year - which he credited to Donald Seldon, M.D., and other faculty members at Southwestern - and serving an internship at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Bill entered practice with The Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving, where he enjoyed taking care of his patients until his retirement at age 70. Bill loved his profession as a medical doctor, delivering his best efforts of professional care to each patient. He often told his family that the respect and affection he felt for his patients they generously returned to him, many-fold. Bill served as a Federal Aviation Authority medical examiner and also as the official team physician for MacArthur High School, the latter for 27 years. Bill spent treasured time hunting, fishing and golfing with his son, Tim, and many friends. An avid golfer, Bill was a charter member of Las Colinas Country Club, claiming seven holes-in-one over five decades of membership. his retirement, Bill and Mary moved to Georgetown, Texas, where they continued to enjoy playing bridge, dancing, and Bill enjoyed taking long daily walks in the Texas Hill Country. Six years later, the couple returned to family and friends in Irving and Dallas, including their church community at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church. In 2012, Bill lost Mary after a long illness, and he moved to Dallas to be with his nieces, Nelda Cain Pickens and Nancy Cain Marcus. In 2013, Bill joined a two-month, four-generation family trip to Europe, where he received the United States flag for his military service in an official ceremony at Normandy. This trip began a period of extensive travel, during which Bill enjoyed friendships old and new, while always spending holidays with his adoring family. Bills last meal was a traditional Christmas dinner at home where, surrounded by four generations of family members, he was seated at the head of the table. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary L. Mitchell Vowell, and her mother, Lucille F. Mitchell; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Vowell; two sisters, Bobbie Lee and Mary Katherine; and three brothers, David, Pat and Mike; brothers-in-law, James Carl Cain and Richard C. Gregg; sister-in-law, Nelda Jane Mitchell Cain Gregg. Bill is survived by his beloved companion, Dr. Joanne Stroud; his son, Timothy S. Vowell of Madison, Wisconsin; his nieces, Nelda Cain Pickens and Nancy Cain Marcus, both of Dallas; his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Robert Morrison of Amarillo; his niece and family, Cindy, Chuck and Jeremy Thomas Hassell of Amarillo; his nephew and family, Keith and Kimberly Morrison, and Holly Morrison of Denver; his grand-nephews and their wives, Rod Cain Jones and Nancy Perot of Dallas; David Mitchell Marcus, M.D., and Leslie Gaston Marcus of Carbondale, Colorado; his grand-niece and her husband, Rebecca Marcus Fernandes, M.D., and Alexandre Fernandes of São Paulo; his great-grand nieces and nephews and other relatives: Caroline Cain Jones, William OBrien Jones and their mother, Geraldine OBrien Jones; Elizabeth Jane Marcus, Matthew Reid Marcus; Isabella Cain Marcus Fernandes, João Fernandes and Pedro Fernandes; Jonathan Pierce and Brandon Pierce and their mother, Heidi Hamilton; and many friends. Obituary: a courageous battle with stomach cancer, Donald Achilles Vouklizas, passed away peacefully at home on 16, 2015 in Arlington, Texas at the age of 82. Don was born in Watertown, New York on May 11, 1932 to Greek immigrants Menas and Helen Vouklizas. He graduated from high school in Batavia, New York and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He then attended collge at the University of Buffalo studying accounting and worked as a cost accountat. The CAA, now known as the Federal Aviation Admistration then hired Don as a Air Traffic Controller. While attending the FAA Academy for this position in Oklahoma, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Garner. completion of the Academy, he started his career as a controller at Boston . Don and Carolyn were married shortly after in 1958. Don finished his career at Fort Worth where he was most proud of a computer program he wrote enabling controllers to receive emergency airport information quickly and version of this is still use today. He coached his son's little league basketball and baseball teams for many years while also supporting his children's competitive speed skating activities driving them across the country for skating competitions where they won numerous National Championships. In retirement after nearly 30 years of government service, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren often providing babysitting for his working children and loved to travel with his wife. enjoyed numerous cruises, trips to Greece, casino trips, and anywhere with a beautiful beach. One memorable vacation was a family trip to Hawaii. Don encouraged his daughter Helen to follow in his career as an Air Traffic Controller recently retiring after 33 years. Don also supported his son Michael with advice in a succssful roller skating equipment business that later enabled him to open Skate Town in Grapevine. His son Donnie is the General Manager of Arlington Skatium, the largest roller skating facility in Texas. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Eva Vouklizas, Diana Donnely, and Athena Kustas.Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years Carolyn, daughter Helen Pierson, and son-in-law Mark Pierson of Southlake, Texas, son Donnie Vouklizas, fiancé Gillian Howard-Christ of Keller, Texas, daughter Annette Hockenberger of Buffalo, New York, son Mike Vouklizas, wife Kathy of Southlake. Grandchildren; Marissa Mahon, Kelly Vouklizas, Kyle Vouklizas, Megan Pierson, all of Southlake, Texas, Donyel Hockenberger and Jennifer Brown of Buffalo, New York. Obituary: Nancy Ann was born in Dallas, Texas, on 22, 1933, in the old Baylor Hospital, to Dr. Lawrence Burton Sheldon and Lois Madale Iverson Sheldon. She attended Bradfield and Walnut Hill Elementary Schools before graduating in 1950 from the Hockaday School for Girls, where she made life-long friends. Nancy Ann enjoyed her college days at the Universities of Arkansas and Texas, before graduating with a Bachelors degree in Education from Southern Methodist University. As her husband Bob used to say, Your mother could cheer for any school in the Southwest Conference and be glad that they won! college, she taught in Dallas ISD at Benito Juarez and O. M. Roberts Elementary schools before retiring to raise her family. She was active in the Slipper Club and Cotillion and served as President of Cotillion. Nancy Ann married Robert Parry Votteler on 23, 1960, and together they raised two daughters, Marianne and Karen. Eventually, she decided to return to teaching part-time, and truly enjoyed her days as a preschool teacher at University Park Methodist Church Preschool. She was a member of the Junior League of Dallas, a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer at Dallas Heritage Village for decades, an alumni representative for the class of 1950 at Hockaday for many years, active in the Dallas Heritage Village Guild, the Salvation Army, and several book clubs. Nancy Ann was a life-long Episcopalian, baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Matthews Cathedral, and was a member of the Church of the Incarnation and Acosta-Smith. As a wife, mother and grandmother, she was the best; loving and supportive, but not afraid to voice her opinion. She had an exceptionally close bond with her two daughters and her only grandson, Blaine, whom she adored and supported in every way possible. Nancy Ann was a true lady, never wanting to hurt someones feelings. Always fun, easy to converse with, and a devoted friend, she kept up with numerous friends by cards, letters, and telephone, but never the internet. She loved to travel and eat at restaurants with friends, enjoying a glass of wine and conversation. Vacations and time spent with her family at their lake house on Cedar Creek Lake were treasured. Nancy Ann died on 18th, 2015, of a brain tumor diagnosed only a week and a half before. Her family is comforted by the fact that she did not suffer, but is devastated by her loss. She is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Lois Sheldon, her husband Robert P. Votteler, and her beloved yellow Labrador retriever, Riley. She is survived by her daughters, Marianne Votteler and Karen Votteler Carreon, and her grandson, Blaine Thomas Carreon, as well as by her sister-in-law, Vermelle Votteler and two nephews, Tad and Todd Votteler and their families. A memorial service will be held on , 24th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75204.
