Obituary: Henry R. Vara, age 96, went home to the Lord he loved and served on , 5, 2011. Born and raised in San Antonio, he was a product of the depression. He learned watch and jewelry repair, in addition to printing. He was a graduate of Main Avenue High School (now Fox Tech). An accomplished artist, he received an art scholarship which he declined so he could help support the family. Henry enjoyed football, bowling, tennis, golf and basketball. As an adult, he became proficient in carpentry and handyman repairs. Henry was a WWII veteran who served in the Pacific Theater and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Although he had been a prisoner of war and survived the Bataan Death with 3 ½ years in prison camps, Henry was not a bitter person. He survived many atrocities during this time, yet remained a loving, outgoing man who loved to laugh, dance and was an avid reader. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of loyal service. He was preceded in death by Lucille, his wife of 35 years and his son, Henry A. Vara. Henry is survived by his children: Adrianne Vara, Deborah Vara, Michael Vara and wife, Katharine; James Vara, Nancy Kluver and husband, Ronald; and John Vara; grandchildren: Laura Ann, Damian, Derek, Rachel, Christopher, Veronica and James; several great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Virginia Vara. The family gives their heartfelt thanks to Audie Murphy VA Hospital, CLC Unit. Visitation will be held on , 12th from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough. ROSARY

Obituary: Gilbert Vara, 89, passed away peacefully on , 3, 2012 in San Antonio, TX. Born on 9, 1922 in Del Rio, TX, he lived most of his wonderful life in San Antonio, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School on May 30, 1942. Immediately after graduation he joined the U.S. Army, where he attended surgical courses in preparation for his service as a medic in the Rhineland, Central European theatre. In 1942, he participated in the liberation of prisoners from concentration camps at Auschwitz and Dachau. For his service, he earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern, (EAME), Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and One Overseas Service Bar. Upon his return from active military service, on 24, 1949, he married the love of his life, an Ursuline Academy girl, Angelina Vega. On 14, 1956, after the loss of five children, they had their miracle from St. Jude, a son, Gilbert Vara, Jr. A good father and provider, he worked in civil service in the new field of computer programming for the U.S. Air Force at Randolph A.F.B. and at the Pentagon. He also attended Trinity University and, after his retirement from Randolph, he brought his extensive experience in the burgeoning computer science and programming industries to San Antonio schools. He taught computer science to elementary and middle school students at Mount Sacred Heart and St. Marys downtown school. A very talented musician, he played piano, clarinet, and saxophone, and was an active member of the San Antonio Community Band. He enjoyed playing dance, swing, jazz, marching, and pop sounds with many of his retired friends. He also enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, basketball, and he faithfully attended Mass at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church where he made many friends and built a lasting relationship with Father Kevin Ryan. He loved his life and the time he spent with his brothers, often sharing his affection for them and their children. He maintained everlasting love for his family in Del Rio and forged strong relationships with his brothers-in-law in Michigan. He never forgot the Spurs and spoke often with his brother, Manuel, on the best ways to have a winning year. He especially enjoyed the love and attention of his son, of whom he was most proud, and his daughter-in-law, Helaina, and her family, with whom he shared many special moments. Above all, he found great pleasure in his two wonderful grandchildren, Katie and Julie, for whom he demonstrated boundless affection, and provided lasting guidance. No one will ever forget his ready smile, innate charisma, precocious character, and wonderful stories. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina; two (2) sisters, Alicia and Fela; and five (5) brothers, Rudy, Salvador, Hector, Manuel, and Joe. His survivors include his son, Gilbert Vara, Jr. and wife Helaina Vara; two (2) grandchildren, Katherine Kelsey Vara and Juliana Camille Vara; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is thankful to God for the special care Gilbert received from Odyssey Hospice, their nurses Aaron and Melissa, and the wonderful caregivers at the Personal of Mary Powell and her staff of supportive, loving assistants who made his life full and complete. Obituary: Merciful God, receive into your heavenly home your faithful servant and son, Francisco G. Vara, received into your holy presence on 25, 2007. Francisco was married for forty-five years to his devoted wife, Luz Maria Vara. were entered into matrimony by the Roman Catholic Church in Giessen, Germany. were blessed with four children, Dana M. Main, married to Scott E. Main; Frank Albert Vara; Monique Marroquin Vasquez, married to Ricardo Vasquez; and Natascha C. Howell, married to Matthew Howell; seven grandchildren, Maximillian, Patrick, Alexander, Alessandra, Joaquin, Sophia, and Samuel. Francisco G. Vara served his country for twenty-eight years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 with two combat tours in Viet Nam 1965-1966 and 1967-1968. He received the Silver and Bronze Stars. He served overseas in five different tours to Germany. retirement, Francisco G. Vara continued to serve his country in the civilian sector as contract manager in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. His devotion to his country and community led him to the Texas Youth Commission, West Texas State School in Pyote, Texas and the Texas Youth Commission Ron Jackson State School in Brownwood, Texas for ten years of service to the State of Texas. Francisco G. Vara received the Spirit Award for Texas State employees in 2007. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, loving grandfather and a trusting good friend. He was a generous, kind and a wonderful man that will be missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him. FranciscoÂs strength, courage, faith and love were evident in the way he lived his life. He was a faithful man who loved and drew strength from God.

He was born 26, 2016 in Odessa, Texas. Abraham also leaves to cherish his memories to his Grandparents: Silverio & Angela C. Nollola Jr, Lawrence & Francis Vara all from Midland, Texas, & a host of Aunts, Uncles Cousins and Many Little friends.
We the family are eternal grateful to each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral, food offerings and especially your presence with us during this most difficult time. May God bless you all abundantly.
