Obituary: Nick A. Valilis, 27, of El Paso Texas passed away after losing his brave battle with acute leukemia on 22, 2017, in Houston, TX. He was born in New York City on 24, 1989, and moved to El Paso with his family in 1996. Nick is survived by his wife, Nuria, his loving parents Panagiotis and Anthoula Valilis, his younger sister Eva, and all of us who still love him. Nick attended Jesus Chapel for elementary school, St. Josephs for middle school, and graduated from Coronado High Schools International Baccalaureate Program in 2008. He then attended Duke University, where he served as president of the Honors Council and graduated with a degree in biology. Nick was diagnosed with acute leukemia in 2012, after which he completed his first year of medical school at University of Texas Houston before relapsing. During this tough time, he had the courage and compassion to turn his misfortune into grace by co-founding a biotech startup company called TowerView . Drawing from his own experiences, he and his cofounders created a smart pillbox device to assist patients like himself in remaining compliant with taking the many necessary medications. http://towerviewhealth.com In 2017, Nick was recognized in Forbes 30 under 30 for his contributions to healthcare. https://www.forbes.com/profile/towerview-health/ Despite being ill, he continued to work tirelessly to further his dream as an innovator and entrepreneur. Apart from his career achievements, Nick was a loving husband, son, brother and friend who enjoyed a good dinner table conversation, listening to jazz, reading long articles, traveling and watching sports (the Lakers and Duke basketball in particular). He particularly enjoyed visiting his extended relatives in Greece and took immense pride in his heritage. We will miss his great attitude, his constant smile and his endless appetite, not only for great steaks and good Greek food, but also for knowledge. He was a magnet for intelligent people. Nick made a lasting impression on everyone he met with his quick-witted humor, intellectual curiosity, and assertiveness. He was passionate about learning and education and inspired others to pursue knowledge and excellence. Nick fought relentlessly until his death, with the support of the many medical professionals at MD Anderson Cancer and University of Washington who cared for him throughout his 5-year battle with cancer. Obituary: Frank Joseph Valigura was born in East Bernard, Texas on 23, 1923 to parents Louise and Steve Valigura, Sr. He married Cecilia Bench on 27, 1945 at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. In of 1949 they moved to East Bernard, Texas. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Frank died on 9, 2015 at his home in East Bernard. He is preceded in death by his wife Cecilia Valigura on 4, 2005. Also preceding him death are his parents, Louise and Steve Valigura Sr, his brothers Steve Valigura, Jr. and Louis Valigura and his sister Georgia Valigura Kovar. He is survived by his sister Martha Valigura Nowak and brother Raymond Valigura. His daughter Carolyn Janik of Elmendorf, Tx, daughter Alice Melancon and husband Alexander of Rosharon, Tx, his son Gregory Valigura and wife Sandy of East Bernard, Tx son Kenneth Valigura and wife Cheryl of Katy, Tx. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kirk Janik and wife Shelly, Keith Janik and wife Helen, Billie Quinn and and wife Stacie, Kimberly Sliva and husband Danny, Peter Quinn and wife Stephanie, Amy Parker and husband Stephen, Jennifer Valigura, and Katie Valigura, Ashley Wilcox and husband William, and Taylor Valigura. Great Grandchildren Madison Rose and Javen Janik, Sydney and Brinley Quinn, Hannah and Victoria Sliva, Peyton, Pearce, Presly, and Phallyn Quinn, Penelope Boyle, Tyler and Tegan Parker, Gemma and Avery Wilcox. Also his long time and faithful pet Misty. Frank was a Veterian of WW II, a member of American Legion Post 226 of East Bernard, Tx. He farmed cotton in the 1950.s and later worked for WKM in Richmond. he retired he and Cecilia enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to his caregiver Patsy Kolafa, and Hospice Plus in Rosenburg, Texas. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. A funeral mass will be held , 13, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Don Ruppert officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross . He joined the Army in 1977 and made his lifetime career as a Bio-Medical Engineer. Rafael married Maria in 1983. Together they raised their three children. Later in life he also raised his two granddaughters. Rafael was full of life to the very end and always had a smile on his face. He brought joy to those around him and will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife Maria Vales? mother Margarita Vales? and his mother in law, Maria Maldonado. Rafael is survived by his father Rafael Vales Sr.; father in law Antonio Maldonado; one son, Rafael Vales III and his wife Christina Rodriquez-Vales; two daughters Alexandria Maldonado, and Christianna Vales and boyfriend Bob Daugherty; and grandchildren Rayna Dexter, Idalis Villazana, Christopher, Caitlyn, Carleigh, and Camreigh Vales, Jordan Lane , and Jackson Daugherty. |
