Obituary: Joan Emma Valachek (nee Dlugos), 70, of Vermilion, died , 22, 2015 at Fairview Hospital after short illness. She was born 7, 1945 in Lorain, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 44 years moving from Lorain. Joan graduated from Clearview High School in 1962 and received her Bachelor of Science from Kent State University. She also graduated from the of Mount St. Joseph with a Masters Degree, and attended Ashland University. She worked for 30 years as an elementary school teacher for Vermilion, Lorain, Sheffield, Sheffield Lake, and Western Reserve Schools. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and Mother of Sorrows Parish, Put-in-Bay. She was also a member of the OEA, NEA, Put-in-Bay Yacht Club, and Vermilion Club. She was also very involved with the Lakeland Womens Club where she was past president and enjoyed antiques and collectables, fine arts, Tea and Tidbits, and playing bridge. Joan also enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, spending summers in Put-in-Bay, entertaining at home, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Andrew J Valachek, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Misson of Amherst; son, Bryan (DeAnna) Valachek of Sylvania; and 3 grandchildren: Andrew, Emma, and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ava (nee Masters) Dlugos. The family will receive friends on , 25, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Riddle , 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on , 26, 2015 at 10 a.m. followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion. The Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove , Vermilion. Obituary: Thomas F. Vaji, 71, of Kent, passed away , 27, 2015 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born 11, 1943 in Uniontown, PA to Frederick and Margaret (Brown) Vaji. He was a member of the Canadian Club in Kent and the Ravenna Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Boose) Vaji; daughters, Deidra Daltorio of Kent and Beth (Charles Jr.) Textor of Rootstown; grandchildren, Julianne, Patrick and Edward Daltorio of Kent, Samuel and Ethan Textor of Rootstown; brothers, Kenneth (Edith) Vaji of Northfield and Donald (Barbara) Vaji of Olmstead Falls; sister, Peggy Popovich of Pawleys Island, SC; and many nieces and nephews. Audrey worked as a librarian for the Napoleon Public Library in the childrens department for more than 40 years, enjoying her work with children and watching each generation grow. Audrey enjoyed walking and gardening. She loved spending time with her family, taking great pleasure in her children and grandchildren. Obituary: RICHARD E. VAIL Richard Vail, one of the bravest warriors ever to fight cancer was mercifully pulled from the war by his Lord and Savior, 31. He had been battling pancreas and liver cancer for the past 16 months with unbelievable strength, courage, and grace. Rich was born 29, 1949 to the late Earl Vail and Kathyrn Miller (Jack) who survives. He is a graduate of Waite High School and The University of Toledo where he earned three degrees. He spent one summer while working his way through college sailing on the Edmond Fitzgerald. He also drove his fathers cabs. Rich was a math teacher at Anthony Wayne before creating and running computer learning labs at various buildings in Toledo Public Schools. Additionally, he taught math, served as an Intern Consultant, and ended his 32 year career helping teachers who were struggling in the classroom. Rich and his loving wife, Cathey were married, 19, 1970. He was the proud father of Joshua (Nicole) and Zachary (Emily). who brought him incredible joy and love. He referred to them as his greatest accomplishment. God blessed him with a grandson, Quinn in 2008. Being Boppy was a role he cherished. Richard shared his fathers love of boating and fishing. He was active in the Ottawa River Yacht Club, where he served as the 2001 Commodore and was the recipient of their Life Time Achievement Award this year. He also was active in the boating organizations AYC and ILYA. Rich was presented with AYCs Outstanding Sportsman Award in 2007 and I-LYAs Man Of The Year Award in 2010. He earned The Commodores Trophy in 2008 during I-LYAs Bayweek Regatta. The life long friendships developed along the way through these three groups mattered much more to him the than honors bestowed upon him. Rich and Cathey shared a passion for biking; riding their Harley throughout the country. He won the first place trophy for Glass City Hogs 2006 Mileage Contest. meandered through 45 of the 50 states. Trips to Maine, Vail, The Grand Canyon, Blue Tooth Highway, Nachez Trace, Blue Ridge Hwy, and Route 66 were among their favorite rides. Richs mother raised him to be a man of faith. He was the lay leader at Grace UM Church for decades. He was currently a member of St. Paul UM Church in Millbury. He frequently filled the pulpit when needed. He also conducted the memorial services for ORYC. In addition to his wife, sons, daughter-in-laws both of whom he loved as his own children, and grandson, Rich is survived by sister, Diane Piotrowski (John); sister-in-law, Marcia Scarberry who he loved like a sister; brothers, David and Daniel (Fiona), as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Timothy Kasunic and every single person connected to the Toledo Clinic Cancer . When Cleveland sent us home to die, you gave us the courage, support, and extra time to live life to its fullest. You were everything and more than we could have asked for.
