Obituary: Jesse James Vess, age 86, died at Riverside Rehabilitation in Covington, GA after several bouts with pneumonia. Jesse loved the outdoors, working with his hands, and gospel music. For many years he built and played the mountain dulcimer. His family was first and foremost in his life. Mr. Vess was born on 17th, 1927 in Buncombe to the late Samuel and Dessie Vess. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Vess. Surviving Mr. Vess is a brother, r Vess of Old Fort; daughter Meredith Zaiken of Covington, GA; 3 Grandchildern, Heather Robertson of Greer, SC, Lindi McCaffrey, husband Ryen of Pittsburgh, PA, Amanda Warner, husband Jamie of New York, NY; 3 Great-Grandchildren; Kyla Robertson, Avalene McCaffrey, and Flynn McCaffrey; and many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews who he loved. A Service will be held at 11:00 AM on , 18th at the Kirksey in Old Fort with Rev. Marty Connor. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cherry Springs Baptist Church Memorial Park. Obituary: r Edward Vess, age 88, of Old Fort, NC went to be with the Lord , 1, 2014 at NC State Veterans in Black Mountain, NC surrounded by his loving family. He was born 30, 1925 in Rutherford , NC to the late Sam and Dessie Crisson Vess. Mr. Vess was a member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army where he received several service medals. He served as a retired volunteer fireman with the Crooked Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Vess retired from Old Fort Finishing Plant. He enjoyed being a lifelong farmer. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Mae Lowery Vess; his brother, James Vess; and his sister, Voleta Vess. Surviving Mr. Vess are three children, Gerald Vess and wife, Catherine, Charles Vess and wife, Deborah and Sue Brewer and husband, Shane all of Old Fort; six grandchildren, Tonya, Tracy, Rebecca, Sherry, Hollie and Matthew; two step-grandchildren, Shantel and Micaline; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on , 3, 2014 at Kirksey Chapel in Old Fort, NC. A Service will be held at 2:00 PM on , 4, 2014 at Cherry Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Conner officiating. Burial will follow at Cherry Springs Memorial Park. Obituary: Frank Glenn Vess, age 84, of Black Mountain, NC died unexpectedly , 3, 2014 at his residence. He was born 24, 1929 in McDowell , NC to the late Otis Theodore Vess and Flossie Odell Elliott Vess. Mr. Vess worked as a welder for C.E. Air Preheater. He was a hard worker and a Jack of all trades. He was honest, strong willed and had a lot of self-pride. He was also known for telling stories and being one of a kind. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vess is also preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Vess; one brother, Roy E. Vess; and one sister, Othella Vess. Obituary: 10, 2015 Marion, NC Floyd Herbert Vess, age 87, of Old Fort , NC, passed away peacefully on , 9, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Vess was born on 27, 1928, to the late Eskimo Stanley Vess and Estalee Patterson Vess. Mr. Vess was retired from his career as a mechanic at Old Fort Finishing and attended Lackey Town Missionary Baptist Church in Old Fort. retirement, Floyd had a job with the US Forest Service which his family says was his most favorite job that he ever had. He also was a sharpening technician. Folks would drop off their scissors, sewing machines, and blades which he would sharpen for free. He also truly enjoyed Blue Grass music and played the guitar, bass, violin and mandolin. Mr. Vess was a wonderful husband and father and his wife and children adored him. He was a man of great integrity who harnessed true Christian values in the way that he lived his life. He was a true friend and a man of his word. In addition to his parents, he is also preceeded in death by his brothers, James Vess, Ollis Vess, Harold Vess, Calvin Vess, and Boyd Vess; his sister, Virginia Sword; his daughter, Donna Vess; and one great grandson, Thomas Vess. Surviving Mr. Vess are his wife of 65 years, Georgia Vess, of the home; his sons, Allen (Viddie) Vess, Glenn (Terri) Vess, and Aaron (Wadean) Vess all of Old Fort; daughters Debra Vess of Marion and Revonda (Keith) Jackson of Old Fort; a brother, Lloyd Vess of Old Fort; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. A Service will be held on , 11, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Cherry Springs Baptist Church in Old Fort with the Revs. Mark Lawing, Jeff Parker, and Aaron Vess officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
