Obituary: Alma Catherine Viol, a 48-year resident of Joppa, died May 29, 2015 at her home. She was 89. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Viol, Jr. to whom she had been married to for 48 years prior to his death in 1997. Born 16, 1926 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Charlotte M. (Landry) McKinnon and John A. McKinnon. Her mother died when she was an infant. Her father died when she was a young child. She lived her early childhood years with her maternal grandparents in Sydney, Nova Scotia. graduating from Saint Ann High School in Detroit, she worked as a secretary for Chrysler Corporation. She left the workforce after she married and started her family. With her husbands job with the C&O and B&O Railroad they transferred from Michigan to Virginia, onto Ohio and then settled in Maryland. She was a prior member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppatowne. She loved music, was a self-taught organist and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a skilled seamstress and a superb cook. She loved to crochet and made dozens of blankets for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed a lifetime of camping with her husband and children and traveled extensively throughout the eastern U.S. and Canada. She spent many winters in Florida with her husband. She is survived by a son, Charles A. Viol III of Edgewood; three daughters, Charlotte M. Cumbie of Liberty, N.C., Janet A. Viol-Thomas of Abingdon and Ann Marie Viol of Joppatowne, five grandchildren and a half-brother. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a half-brother, half-sister and step-mother. Pallbearers were Charles Viol III, Richard Cumbie, Marshall McCloud, Chris Hardy, David Thomas and Matthew Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Almas name and sent to Family & Childrens Medical Adult Day Services, 309 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air, MD 21015. |

On , 9, 1945 on a small farm in Courtland, Virginia, Willie Lee Vinson entered this world. Willie Lee Vinson was born to Harvey Vinson and Virginia Vinson. He was the fifth child of six children: Linwood, Leila, Mary, James and Walter. A Time To Plant . . . Willie was educated in the Suffolk Public School. Upon graduating he enlisted in the United States Army. In the Army, Willie served a tour of active duty in Germany. He was stationed in Germany for 31 months during the Vietnam War. four years of dedicated service Willie received an honorable discharge. separation from the military, Willie embarked on his professional career and relocated to New York. He accepted a position with International Business Machines (IBM) as a computer programmer in 1969. During his tenure there he received numerous accommodations and awards for his outstanding contribution as an IT Manager. a 23 year career with IBM, he retired. Not one to sit idle, Willie accepted a position as a contractor with Verizon and would continue in this position until retirement in 2007. A Time To Love ... In the summer of 1965 while on holiday at Sea View Beach, Willie was introduced to Patricia Pat McMillian. As life would have it their paths would soon cross again. In 1969, after returning home from military duty and relocating to New York, he was reintroduced to Pat and invited her out for a date. Three short months later, he proposed and on 17, 1970, Willie married his beloved Tricia. Willie and Pat settled in East Orange, New Jersey. On 11, 1973 they expanded the family with the birth of a son, Jermaine C. Vinson. enjoyed life with family and friends. In 1986, Willie relocated his family to Silver Spring, Maryland. Willie and Patricia had a love so strong, that it seemed like they were one. Whenever Tricia would get ready to tell him something, Willie would open his mouth and say the very same thing that she was about to tell him. Pat recalls moments when she would lay her head on his chest just to listen to his heart beat. One night, she realized that his heart beat matched hers. Blessed with an opportunity that few people ever get on this earth, God blessed Willie and Pat with the gift of time, space, family, friends, togetherness and much love. A Time to Serve God . . . Willie responded to Gods call and committed his life to Christ on 1, 1984 at New Hope Baptist Church in New Orange, New Jersey. Willie and his son, Jermaine were baptized as father and son. relocating to Maryland, Willie and his family joined The Community Baptist Church (TPCBC) on May 5, 1991 and became members of the Benjamin Family. Guided by Psalm 23. The Lord is my Shepard ... Willie was dedicated in his call to serve God. At TPCBC, he served in the Usher Ministry and the Share Ministry; he devoted many hours working with the Prison Ministry and Drug Court; he also served as Bible Study Teacher. In 2000, he began Deacon training in the Benjamin Family; and on 30, 2003, Willie Vinson was ordained to the work of the Deacon Ministry and was assigned to the Dan Family. In 2016, Willie instituted a communion service for Generation One members and attendees on s. A Time To Share ... Willie loved life and he loved his family. He liked things simple. Willie was a man with a peaceful spirit and a big smile. He enjoyed having a good time and he loved to laugh. Willies delight was to be surrounded by family and friends. A devoted grandfather, Willie especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved them and they adored him. He was always the sounding board. Never one for confusion and chaos, family and friends would always seek Willie out for he straight answer. Naturally gifted in carpentry Willie could build anything with or without blueprints. One of his favorite pastimes was singing. He serenaded his beloved Trisha often. A true farmer, Willie loved the land; he loved planting and watching things grow. Willie was admired by many for his lawn care skills. He was known for maintaining the best lawn in the neighborhood without the use of a lawn service. A Time to Transition ... Willie became ill with Pancreatic Cancer in 2015. is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Willies faith in God was strong. During his illness, God blessed him with strength to return to the church, to continue to perform his duties as a Deacon and to participate in the other ministries and activities he supported and enjoyed. He accepted the prognosis for his health condition with steadfastness and determination. A true man of God, Willie peacefully transitioned into His Presence on , May 26, 2017. His devoted wife and son, his loving caregivers to the end, were by his side. A Time for Eternity ... Willie accepted Gods call home. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Virginia Vinson, his brother Linwood Vinson and two sisters, Lelia Vinson and Mary Vinson. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Tricia; one son, Jermaine; grandchildren: Jade, MShinda, Jermaine, Jr., Jordan, Jaden and Jaye Love; two brothers: James Vinson and Walter Vinson; two aunts: Eliza and Lela; and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. |
