Obituary: John A. Van Vynckt Jr., age 88, passed away , 8, 2013. He is survived by his children: Virginia Ginny (Marvin Weinstein) Van Vynckt, Randall (Roger St. Pierre) Van Vynckt, Ray Van Vynckt, Ron Van Vynckt, Vivian (Carl) Ploense, Vicki (Jim Schaefer) Van Vynckt; grandchildren: Steve (Amber) Ploense, Lian Weinstein, and Daniel Weinstein. John is also survived by one brother, four sisters and former wife, Fran Van Vynckt. Preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. John was a decorated veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Lever Brothers after 23 years of service as an Instrument Technician. John was an avid fisherman, golfer, options trader, gardener and NRA member. John also enjoyed walking Wicker Park with his walking buddies. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 232 and VFW Post 7881. John was a loving father and grandfather who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held , 15, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn (8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN); American Legion Post 232 service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Cedar Grove in South Bend, IN. Friends are invited to visit with the family on , 15, 2013 at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Donations in Johns memory may be made to: Hospice of the Calumet Area (hospicecalumet.org) or the American Legion Post 232 in Hessville, IN.
