Obituary: Hermon David Skeet Ussery, 81, passed away on , 01, 2011 in Conroe. He was born on 31, 1929, in Winnsboro, Texas, to William and Lora Ussery, the youngest of six children. Skeet devoted his life to public service, first enlisting in the Army in 1948 during the Allied occupation of Japan after WWII and serving at the onset of the Korean Conflict until 1952. his military service, he was a patrolman with the city of Mineola, Texas. He served and protected the people of Texas from 1956 (moving to Conroe in 1957) until 1984 as a State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety. his retirement from DPS, he worked as a bailiff in the Court of Judge Mason Martin for 10 years. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 53 years, Joan; his daughter and son-in-law, Aileen and Garry Graybill of Conroe; his son David Ussery of Richards; and his youngest daughter, Dr. Beth Lewis of San Antonio. He is also mourned by his grandson and his wife, Buster and Jasmyne Graybill of San Antonio; granddaughter and her husband, Mandy and Jason Pate, and three great granddaughters, Ashlyn, Savanna, and Jaycee, all of Conroe. He leaves behind many relatives and innumerable friends who will miss his smile and sense of humor. Obituary: Edith Myram Farmer Ussery died on 23, 2017, at the family home purchased in 1959. She gave all of herself to every endeavor, even in death. She lived life full of caring and kindness. She loved her family with all her heart. In her 92 plus years, she outlived her parents, her husband Van F.; her son-in-law Jack Davis; all her siblings on both sides of the family except one; as well as many other family members. Edith strongly believed she would have a joyous reunion in heaven with Van F and many loved ones. Edith was born on 29, 1924, in Water Valley, Texas to Sophie and Robert Farmer. She had 8 brothers and sisters (Archie, Lorraine, Eugene, Crawford, Wade, James Dean, Orvil and Irene) and they grew up in San Angelo and Water Valley. She met the love of her life, while working at a soda shop, when a dashing young pilot named Van F. Ussery noticed her "pretty legs".. were married on 30, 1943 and had a true love - those who got to experience their relationship will never forget. Edith and Van F. traveled the world with their girls and lived in or around Air Force bases and cities such as Tacoma Washington, Fairbanks Alaska, Bergstrom AFB/Austin Texas, Naples Italy, Andrews AFB/Washington DC and Eglin AFB/Valparaiso Florida, before returning to home to Austin. As a teenager, Edith had to quit school to go to work to help her family. Education was important to her and she went back as an adult and she graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a Master's Degree in Education in 1981 at age 57. Learning was Ediths passion. She was a member of national honor societies - Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi and she was a life-time member of the University of Texas-Exes. Edith taught kindergarten for almost 30 years, retiring from Austin ISD in 1990. Her last school was Gullett Elementary after teaching there for 16 plus years. Her students will tell you - she was one of the best teachers ever - interesting them in learning and building a solid and loving foundation for their continued education. Mom initiated and continued a connection; but her students maintained that bond for decades. retiring, she volunteered for several years at her grandchildrens and great grandchildrens schools. Her proudest moments were talking about the kids she taught and families she met and loved over the years - how proud she was of them. Her impact on children, especially those in Austin, is significant. grew up to be lawyers, doctors and police officers; firefighters, parents and librarians; whatever they did; in Mrs. Usserys eyes - they hung the moon and stars! She taught without need for fanfare or awards; instead for the love of learning and for each child. A former student wrote: Thank you for being such a strong and positive influence in my life. Your commitment to being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, teacher, friend and human being you can be - has been an inspiration and guiding force for so many people whose lives you have touched. I am blessed to have lived on this planet in your lifetime and honored to call you my friend. Edith loved art and painting, teaching, sewing, square-dancing, organizing, and many different types of crafting. Letter-writing was an important part of her communication with others. Her writing, both penmanship and words, was extraordinary. She loved nature and in later years enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds that graced her birdfeeder outside the dining room window. She loved to spend time with her large and ever-growing family starting with her 3 daughters and families: Annette and Arnold Foradory; Van Davis; and Jenny and Scott Hall. She also considered Janie Lamme Hilliard (and Jim) as a "fourth" daughter. She had 6 grandchildren from 3 daughters - Eddy (Jan) Foradory, Wade Foradory, Vance (Jean) Foradory, Melanie (Randy) Gore, Stefanie Matula, Cooper Hall, and 2 from her fourth daughter - Joshua (Jenny) Hilliard and Lacey (Ryan) Hilliard. Through family and by marriage, she had 16 great and 15 great-great grandchildren. Edith is also survived by several family members including Jeanne Jackson, Dwain Farmer, Mark Brunson, Buck (Jane) Morrow, Linda (John) Goble, Dave Ussery, Lisa Bailey, and many more. Pallbearers are grandchildren: Eddy Foradory, Wade Foradory, Vance Foradory, Melanie Gore, Stefanie Matula, Cooper Hall, Joshua Hilliard and Lacey Hilliard. Visitation will be held on , 29, 2017, from 4 to 7 pm at Cook Walden, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas. The service will be held on , 30, 2017, at 2:00 pm, with Reverend George V Clark, officiating. We will gather afterward at Ediths home for conversation and memories. Edith will be buried at Highsmith , 17540-17886 US 90, Luling Texas, on , 1, 2017 at 10:30 am, departing from Cook-Walden at 9:30 am.
