Obituary: Barbara Young Glover Tucker passed away peacefully in her home in Aptos, CA surrounded by family, friends and love. She bravely faced her two year challenge with lung cancer with the same strength, focus and determination that defined her entire 76 years of life. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Thomas & Lucy Glover, her sister Carolyn McDonough and her husband, of 43 years, Gerald Tucker. Barbara, known as Bobby or Nani by her grandchildren, is survived by her brother Tom Glover, as well as her four children; Jeanie Bell, Jeff Tucker, Jim Tucker, Linda Sossenheimer. Nine grandchildren, Emily, Rosalie, Jessica, Sara, Erin, Philip, Jaime, Anna, Christina and her three great grandchildren, Kali and Kolby and Sydney. Bobby was raised in Pasadena, CA, the granddaughter of California Governor C. C. Young (1926), attended Westridge High School for Girls and graduated from Stanford University in 1959 with a degree in History. She and her husband Jerry moved to Santa Cruz in 1960 raising their family in Aptos since 1962. She was an avid gardener, creating and maintaining beautiful landscapes everywhere she called home. She enjoyed renovating, remodeling and was always busy with her house projects. Bobby spent most of the past 10 years in Pahala, Hawaii. During this time she was known and loved as a local philanthropist using her passion for music, as Auntie Ba, on-air at a local radio station in the Pahala, Kau district. She spearheaded donation drives benefitting local residents, schools and cultural festivals as well as playing great music. Bobbys work was often focused on local non-profit organizations like the Halau Hula O Leionalani and helping fund the annual Hula Festival and community outreach programs for troubled youth. Bobby will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Services will be held on 20th at 11 am at Seascape Resort in Aptos, CA. Obituary: Longtime Crescent Mills business woman Barbara J. Tucker went on peacefully to join her son in heaven, evening 10, 2014. Her loving family was at her side. Born in Salinas, CA she was raised and educated in Salinas and in Arizona, following her parents who were in the produce business. In 1955 she was crowned Miss Glendale, Arizona. She met the love of her life, Jack Tucker in Salinas, CA and as their love for one another blossomed the couple was later married and to this loving union sons Jim, Jon and daughter, Lisa were born. Always there for others Barbara served as a Cub and Boy Scout Den Mother, Blue Bird Campfire Girl leader and Swim Team Mom, she enjoyed spending time with her family on the beach at Santa Cruz along with camping. First and foremost a loving wife and mother, Barbara could regularly be found making pots of soup for ill neighbors and always had a full cookie jar for the neighborhood kids. With a veracious thirst for learning she would read about anything and everything, be it tilling, landscaping, sewing, art, collectables or any other thing that may have come to her mind. The family resided in Salinas until 1975 when following a vacation drive the couple found Indian Valley. Together they purchased the Crescent Hotel where she set about restoring and transforming it into a local landmark. Her cooking is still talked about throughout Plumas, Sierra and Lassen Counties along with the many visitors she touched throughout her and Jacks time of ownership. Barbara loved to master new things and then move on to another. She is a former Real Estate Broker who found great pleasure in matching people to their new homes. In 1985 Barbara started a Co-op with a number of other local ladies in the little cabin next to the Crescent Hotel and Crescent Country was born. The store soon grew into the hotel as its popularity grew and in 1993 Jack and Barbara bought the half acre of property across the street from the hotel. Barbaras vision transformed the little house into a traditional home with a cottage garden, then tripling the size of Crescent Country by turning the large metal building into the landmark gift shop it is today. The store has never been all business though as it became a place where lifelong friendships have been made along with untold lives being touched. In 2006 Barbara was diagnosed with lung cancer, told it was in remission on four different occasions, she handled each time of its return with the same grace and dignity that she led her daily life with, never complaining. Barbara wanted to share the following with others. Perhaps I can take heart that we are all connected and I may still have things to contribute to the family of man and some light to add to the light. Even now my endurance (however imperfect) is a gift, an inspiration for others in their struggles. Along with her parents Barbara joins her precious son, Jim in their eternal home in heaven. In passing Barbara leaves her husband, Jack of Crescent Mills, children; Jon of Tulsa, OK, Lisa who so dedicated her life to caring for her parents these last few months and husband Butch of Indian Falls, the jewels of her later life her grandchildren; Charlie, Lauren, Michael, Jesse, Courtney, Kurtis, Kelina, Kelsey, Cassady, Camilyn, Sean, Alex, Jessie and eight great grandchildren, two step daughters; Kim of Alaska and Teri of Quincy along with a host of dear friends.
