Obituary: Bernice T. Toler Of Robinette, WV Bernice T. Toler, 76, of Robinette, went home to be with the Lord on , May 22, 2017, from St. Marys Hospital at Huntington. She was born on May 11, 1941, a daughter of the late Rev. Delbert and Mary Gibson Toler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Ann Adkins and other relatives. Bernice attended the Becco United Baptist Church. She had also served as a school teacher and clerk at the old Lundale Freewill Baptist Church years ago. She also sang---like an angel. Being raised in a ministerial family, Bernice became a Christian at a young age and never departed from the straight and narrow path that leads to heaven. She retired from her work at the Krantz-McNeely several years ago---a job in which she took great pride. The help she gave to the many families she met as a support specialist at the funeral home displayed her kindness and faith as she touched the lives of those she served. Her willingness to help in any situation, quick wit, and her ability to take a secret to the grave was a constant source of inspiration to those who had the privilege to work beside her. Although retired, she continued to be a part of the Krantz-McNeely Family and will be deeply missed. Bernice was a nurse and a nanny to nearly all of the family, taking care of the sick and helping the little ones get a good start in life. Her loving care planted many seeds that flourish in her family and friends today. She also loved holiday cooking for the family when they all came home. An awesome cook, Bernice will long be remembered for her Old Fashion Stack Cake, her biscuits, made from scratch with no measurements or recipe, and her chicken and dumplings. She liked to lounge and watch TV while sipping red Kool-Aid. Bernice loved people, listening to gospel music, and talking about old times. Hers was a life rich in love, meaning, and purpose. Press on! Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Billy Ray (Marie) Toler of Franklin, KY and Jimmy (Anita) Toler of Pecks Mill; two sisters, Jewell Toler of Cyclone and Velena Osborne of Accoville; nieces and nephews, Eileen (David) May, Naomia (Barry) Browning, Michael (Kim) Toler, Tommy Adkins, Jimmy (Crystal) Toler, Michele (Tim) Kerrigan, Melloney (Steve) Hudelson, Joseph (Trina) Osborne, Chastity (Dan) Honeycutt, and Martin Toler; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; two of her great-nieces, Marianna Liggett and Rachel May, thought of Bernice as a grandmother; her church family along with a host of other relatives and many, many friends. A celebration of Bernices precious life will be held at 1 p.m. , May 26, 2017, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 4 until 9 p.m. at the Becco United Baptist Church and one hour prior to services also. Pall bearers will be family and friends. A special thank you goes out to the responding ambulance crew, the staff at Logan Regional Medical , the staff at St. Marys Hospital, and to Heather, a sister-in-Christ, who stayed with Bernice in the late night/early morning hours. Special thanks to all who prayed for Bernice and the family and/or said or did anything kind toward them. have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely at Man |

Obituary: Family and friends mourn the passing of esteemed local historian and teacher, James David Toler of Kopperston, who passed away suddenly on , 15, 2016. Born 25, 1944, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Maxine Toler and his mother-in-law, Freda Nottingham. He is survived by his wife of forty fascinating years, Connie Nottingham Toler; two brothers, Michael Toler and wife, Vicey and Eugene “Smokey” Toler and wife, Becky; a sister, Joanne Scott and husband, Gerald; children, David Ash Toler, Michelle Puzio and husband, Larry, Darelle King, Gina Maynard and husband, Michael and Jake Meade; grandchildren, Michael Puzio, Lauren King, Ryan King and Adam Burks and wife, Kristen; and great-grandchildren, Tegan and Anabel Burks. Jim graduated from Oceana high school in 1962. He went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from Concord and a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He retired from the Wyoming Board of Education, where he taught at Oceana High School, Pineville High School, Berlin McKinney and Wyoming Alternative School. He was a professor at the University of Tennessee, an adjunct professor at Southern WV Community and Technical and was currently the director and curator of the Raleigh Veterans Museum in Beckley. A lifelong scholar and learned historian, Jim Toler was an American Revolutionary War reenactor and enjoyed nothing more than sharing his love of history with others. He was not only a teacher to his students over the years but, to everyone who met him. Currently on display at the Raleigh Veterans Museum is a replica of the USS West Virginia, a project that took Jim twenty years to build by hand in his spare time-just an example of his tireless dedication to his life’s passion. Jim was a member of the American Federation of Teachers. As a staunch democrat, he was elected to Wyoming Democratic Executive Committee and was a firm believer in community activism. From his participation in the Civil Rights Movement by way of peaceful “sit-ins”, to his volunteer work with the Kopperston Boy Scouts, Jim never did anything in small measures. Beyond his professional achievements and volunteer work, he was also a gunsmith, a master woodworker, and a Golden Gloves Champion. He was a loving husband and father, and a kind and generous friend and neighbor. All people hope to leave the world a better place than how they found it-such is the legacy of James David Toler. In lieu of flowers, per his wishes, the family suggests donations be made to: Raleigh Veterans Museum, PO Box 2135, Beckley, WV 25801-1945. |
