Obituary: Ralph O. Thorpe, born 1, 1918 in Dale, IN to Daniel and Vernita (Herr) Thorpe. Died 4, 2015 in Carrollton, TX. Master SGT in the United States Marine Corps 1942-46, serving in WWII in 3rd Marine Div., 3rd Marines, 2nd Battalion in Samoa, Guam, Guadalcanal and Bougenville. Resided in Henderson, KY 1953-1963 and Dallas, TX 1963-2015. Mr. Thorpe was a manufacturers furniture rep and member of Southwest Roadrunners. He married the love of his life, fellow Marine, Jean Topnick of Mahwah, N. J. on 12, 1946 in Parris Island, S.C. Preceded in death by wife Jean of 57 years; brother James J.T. Thorpe and great-grandson David Bushey, Jr. Survived by daughters Carol Seward (Lew) Elgin, TX, and Cathy Howe (Billy) Richmond, VA, and sons Charles Rick Thorpe, Dallas, TX and Don Thorpe(Mary Jane), Carrollton, TX. Also survived by sisters, Jeanette Young, Owensboro, KY and Kathleen Walters, Dale, IN; five grandsons, three granddaughters and six great-granddaughters. Mr. Thorpe was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1963. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Fund in c/o www.svdpusa.org. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on , 9, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on , 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of St. Pius X Catholic Church with Fr. Obituary: John H. (Jack) Thorpe On 14, 2013 Pop-Pop passed from his earthly life into his eternal reward with God. He was born in Roselle Park, New Jersey on 22, 1919 to Ernest and Ellen Thorpe. He spent his early years traveling from coast to coast and living in many states. As a young man Jack was a skilled athlete playing many sports, including his favorite baseball. He was also a life long lover of horse racing. He graduated from Bassick High School as an honor roll student and was offered an opportunity to play baseball at the University of Connecticut but declined for economic reasons. Instead of college he went to work for the Bridgeport Brass Co. In 1941 he met and married Elizabeth (Lea) Genci, the love of his life. were married for 71 years. As a member of the greatest generation he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and later helped build athletic fields in Japan during its occupation. Many times after returning home he would say, The good Lord blessed me and allowed me to return unharmed - all the rest of my life is gravy. He worked in engineering for many years at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. accepting a position at Texas Instruments in 1958, he, his wife, and daughter moved to Dallas. He became an avid golfer. his retirement he and Lea moved to Hide-A-Way Lake in Lindale where he designed and helped build their unique A-frame house. In 2005 they moved back to Richardson to be close to family. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Lea; daughter and son-in law, Judi and Tom Hampton; grandson, John Hampton; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cathi and Bron Rayburn; great-grandchildren, Taryn Rayburn, Brynn Rayburn and Thomas Hampton; Thomas mother, Kim Hampton, and many nieces and nephews. The marks by which each of us define a meaningful life may vary...service to country, hard work, integrity, a model of perseverance and endurance, unwavering devotion to family. All these leave a positive example for future generations. The grief we feel in losing our example is tempered by our thankfulness to the Lord for his good and long life. A Mass of Christian burial and a celebration of his life will be on , 20th at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Richardson. Rosary at 9:30 and service at 10:00. Interment will be at DFW Veterans . In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made in his name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the charity of your choice. |

Obituary: Elizabeth J. (Lea) Thorpe On 16, 2014 Lea crossed the boundaries of her earthly life into her promised fulfillment of eternity with our Lord. Born in Stratford, Connecticut on 8, 1915, she was the youngest of 5 children born to Andrew and Elizabeth Genci, immigrants from Budapest, Hungary. As a young girl she helped her family by working at the soda fountain in their store and became an expert at root beer floats. Being very athletic she participated in gymnastics, basketball and track during her school years. In her early twenties she sang with a band at Seaside Park on the Long Island Sound. She met and married the love of her life, Jack Thorpe, in 1941. remained married for 71 years. With Jack and their daughter they lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland before settling in their adopted and loved state of Texas. Lea was naturally creative; a self-taught and talented artist, singer, piano player and seamstress. She won many golf trophies and was an excellent cook who leaves a collection of Hungarian recipes. She was devoted to prayer and set an example of perseverance and endurance for her family. Throughout her 99 years she never stopped putting her indomitable will against her inevitable mortality. She was a dedicated, loyal, and devoted wife; a caring, loving and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers, Bill and Ted, and sisters, Irene and Madelyn. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in law, Judi and Tom Hampton; grandson, John Hampton; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cathi and Bron Rayburn; great-grandchildren, Taryn Rayburn, Brynn Rayburn and Thomas Hampton; Thomas mother, Kim Hampton; niece, Carol Adams; nephew, Richard Carrano; niece Lynn Daley and their families. We give thanks to the Lord for her long life. Her passing leaves an empty place in our family, but not in our hearts. A Mass of Christian burial and celebration of her life will be on , 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Richardson. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 with service at 10:00.
