Obituary: William J. Thomas, 97, of Paris, passed away , May 25, 2015, at Paris Regional Medical . Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. , 16th, at Bright-Holland with Pastor Jeremy Thomas and Rev. Gary Regan officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen . The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. Thomas, the son of Joseph Daniel & Josie Pearl Mauldin Thomas, was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Howland. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Thomas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paris where he was very active and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of the Couples Class and led the music for them. He spent a year after his retirement working with B. P. Denny and Jack Danner repairing and rebuilding the beautiful stained glass windows in the historic First Methodist Church. He had many hobbies among which were traveling, stained glass and gardening, especially growing African violets. When he was 92, he flew to Alberta, Canada to see his middle grandson and his family who were serving as missionaries there. He loved life and he loved his family. He took special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren and even at the age of 97 would use his iPad to FaceTime with them. He also was a longtime member of the Lion’s Club and following his retirement from TX DOT he volunteered for 15 years for the St. Joseph/PRMC Hospital Auxiliary. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 41 years as the Supervisor of the District Lab. He also served for 20 years as the Weather Observer for the U. S. Weather Service here in Paris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Elizabeth “Sunny” Rodgers Thomas, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1940. built 63 years of family and memories before her death in 2003. Survivors include one son, Bob Thomas & wife Sharon of Paris, three grandsons, Jeremy Thomas & wife Robin of Fredericksburg, Joseph Thomas & wife Suzanne of Ft. Worth and Jonathan Thomas of Paris, eight great grandchildren, Riven Thomas, Evan Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Kaleb Thomas, Maren Thomas, Corah Thomas, Eli Thomas and Emma Thomas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Thomas & wife Thelma and a sister, Martha Thomas. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Lola Harris for the loving care given Mr. Thomas and to his “family” at Colonial Lodge. |

Obituary: William Richard (Dick) Thomas, 83, succumbed to cancer on 19th at home surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Ennis, Texas on 29, 1931 to Nellie Elizabeth and George Robert Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lynn; son Jeff and his wife Julie and their children, Lindsey, Shelby and Blake; son Brad and his wife Danny, and children Austin and Olivia; and daughter Julie Burke and her daughter Allison Burke. He is also survived by his sister Brett Averitt and her husband Bob and their children Angela and Mark. Dick touched many lives during his long and accomplished life and will be missed by many, many friends. Dicks love of music began early in his life- he formed his first band, Dick Thomas and the Dreamtones, in 1948 before he graduated from Ennis High School in 1949. Dick graduated from Southwestern University in 1953 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. Following graduation, he joined the Army and was a member of the 62nd Army Band in Fort Bliss from 1953-1955. He received a graduate degree from Vandercook of Music in Chicago following his discharge from the Army. During his lifetime, he managed and was a member of many bands : Gilbert Kautz and Van Kirkpatrick Orchestra, Durwood Cline Orchestra (Dallas), Ted Weems Orchestra, Dal Farris Quartet, Phil Manning Combo, Jimmy Grove Orchestra , Teddy Wilson Trio, Stars of Swing (Austin), Corky Robinson and the Keynoters (Austin). In 1981 Dick organized the KISD Jazz Co-op, a big band composed of local band members and area musicians to promote the sounds of the Big Band era. In 1992, he formed the Dick Thomas Orchestra and played at area receptions, dance clubs and events. Dick influenced many young and aspiring musicians through his performances, guidance and music education. Music was a passion he enjoyed his entire life. Dick was a professional educator beginning with his first job as the band director at Texarkana High School. He was also the band director for one year at Kaufman High School, before moving to Killeen to take over as band director at Killeen High School. While serving as the Band Director at Killeen High School, Dick created the Killeen Kangarettes, and led the band to numerous awards. In 1963, the Killeen High School jazz band won the prestigious Brownwood Jazz Contest. Receiving the award from Stan Kenton was one of his most treasured memories. In 1970, Dick left his position as director to move to school administration. He became the assistant principal and later principal at Rancier Jr. High School. In 1976, the family moved to Austin where he served Governor Dolph Briscoes Administration as the Deputy Director on the Governors Committee on Aging. Briscoe left office, Dick returned to Killeen to become the Director of Community Education for KISD. Dicks final job at KISD, was one of his favorite\elementary principal at Fowler Elementary. He felt like this position was the perfect place for him to end his career. Dick was an active member of all communities where he resided, participating in and directing community activities. His deep faith manifested with his active involvement in the Methodist Church in all the cities where he lived. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Killeen for over 50 years and served the church as choir director and later as a member of the choir. The church choir visited Dick at his home in the last week of his life so that he could hear their Christmas concert. Music has never sounded quite so special. Dicks life was filled with a love of people, laughter and music, but Dicks greatest love was his family. He showed his love for his children, and ultimately grandchildren, by actively supporting and participating in their many activities. He attended many school music performances, chaperoned many school trips and attended many athletic events. Additionally, in retirement Dick and Lynn travelled to Europe, Alaska, music cruises and throughout the US. We will miss his wonderful belly laugh, the twinkle in his eye and his amazing wit and humor. But most of all, we will miss the joy he brought to us all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation to the organ fund at the First United Methodist Church of Killeen or a donation to your favorite charity. A Celebration of Dicks life will be held on 29th at the First United Methodist Church located at 3501 Elms Road in Killeen, Tx. The service will begin at 2:00 pm. Obituary: William Edward Thomas, born in Kansas City, Missouri on 2, 1914, died in San Antonio on 25, 2002 at the age of 87. Bill arrived with his family in this city in 1922 and took up residence on Pleasanton Rd., across the street from a lumberyard, which his father managed. The family later moved to the Terrell Hills area, and Bill graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1930. He continued his studies at San Antonio , Schriener Institute Kerrville, and the University of Missouri before returning home in 1933 to begin his lifeÂs work in the lumber and building materials industry with Geo. C. Vaughan and Sons, where he rose to the position of vice-president before his retirement in 1988. He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church, and was active with the Alamo Kiwanis Club, where he served a term as president, the Texas Cavaliers, Trinity University Parents Association, the Boy Scouts of America, from whom he received the Silver Beaver Award, Bexar ChildrenÂs Shelter, Presbyterian ChildrenÂs , and was member of San Antonio Country Club. He was also an accomplished watercolor artist displaying his work in a variety of art shows throughout the region over period of more than twenty-five years. His works reflected many of the traveles he and his wife Ann had made over the years throughout the United States, Mexico, South America and Europe. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ann. Bill is survived by his brother, Alex R. Thomas and his wife, Louise, of San Antonio; son, William E. Thomas, Jr of San Antonio; two grandsons, Jason E. Thomas and his wife, Rachel, of Houston, Texas, and William E. Thomas III of San Antonio; and his great-grandson, William Harrison Thomas of Houston. |

Obituary: Willa Jean Thomas 90 Celebration of Life services will be at 11:00 a.m. , 30, 2015 at St Paul United Methodist Church with Reverends Perry Hunsaker and Steve Stephens officiating. are by Griggs Schooler Gordon Directors. Private family burial will be in Llano Willa, a resident of Amarillo since 1952, was born in Belleville, AR, to AC and Myrtle Buckman Sadler on 13, 1924. She was the fourth of five children. The family moved to Carlsbad, NM, where she graduated from high school in 1942. On 8, 1946, she married Roy W. Thomas after he returned from the service in the US Navy. Willa was a stay at home mom and active volunteer with Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts and St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women, played in the church handbell choir and was a founding member of the Covenant School Class. Willa was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, after 48 years of marriage. Willa is survived by her children, Cheryl Lackey and husband Don of Burnet, Craig Bear Thomas of Amarillo and Ronetta Mills and husband Willie of Amarillo; grandchildren include Christina Mills and Steven Thomas; great-grandsons Taylor Thomas and Gabriel Thomas; step-grandchildren Steve Lackey and wife Cathy of Decatur, Donna Huerta of Dallas and Lynn Turner and husband John of Liberty Hill; eleven step great-grandchildren and one step great great-grandson.
