Obituary: Services for Alvin Leslie Taylor of Lakewood, Colorado will be 10:00 am , 30, 2015, at Moore Chapel in Arlington with Dr. James Scirratt officiating. Burial will follow in Moore Memorial Gardens. Mr. Taylor passed away , 19, 2015 at the age of 94. Alvin was born 20, 1920 in Childress, Texas to Zack Taylor and Eleanor Carpenter Taylor. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was shot down over Belgium and taken prisoner and remained a prisoner until his prison camp was liberated by the Russians at the end of the war in 1945. He spent his working years using his specialty training in aeronautical engineering and electronics on top secret military projects for the government in places such as White Sands and was an integral part of the NASA Space Shuttle project. Mr. Taylor was preceded by his wife Ester Marie Read Taylor, 11, 2005 and by one son, David Glen Taylor, 15, 2002. He is survived by one son, Ricky Taylor of Littleton, Colorado. Those choosing to give to a charity are encouraged to honor him with memorials to The National League of POW/MIA Families, 5673 Columbia Pike, Suite 100, Falls Church, VA 22041, www.pow-miafamilies.org. |

Obituary: Alva LaVerne Russell Taylor, 88, of Abilene went to be with her Lord and Savior on evening, 19th, 2010 surrounded by her family. A visitation and viewing will be held on evening, 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil , 542 Hickory St. Services will follow on , 24th, 2010 at 2:00pm at the University Church of Christ with Bill Young officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. Alva LaVerne Russell was born to Amy Heathington and Ernest Alvin Russell on May 24, 1922 in Ralls, Crosby Texas. She graduated from Floydada High School as Valedictorian in May, 1940. LaVerne entered ACC (ACU) in the fall of 1940 where she met William Byron Taylor and married him on 10, 1942 in Littlefield, Texas. She then assumed the responsibilities of a missionarys wife and helped Byron establish Churches of Christ in Texas, Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma. She completed her BA in education at ACC (ACU) in 1956. In 1959, she and her family moved to the Snyder, Texas area. LaVerne taught school in Snyder until 1966 when she and Byron moved to Abilene. She taught at Alta Vista for 21 years before retiring. LaVerne was an avid genealogist. She was an officer or member of Colonial Dames, United Daughters of Confederacy and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She and Byron built a cabin in the Sangre de Christo Mountains in New Mexico and spent many memorable summers there. She was a member of the University Church of Christ until her death. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and one grandchild. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Flournoy, who lived with her and cared for her and Sue Wiman of Charlotte, NC; one son, David Taylor of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Chris Taylor and wife Dawn of Portales, NM, Andy Miller and wife Janna of Charlotte, NC, Greg Miller of Charlotte, NC and Traci Lawless of Euless; one sister, Wilma Marshall and husband, Dr. Joe Marshall and their three children, Mike and wife, Donna of Colleyville, TX, Pam and husband Tim of Kerrville, TX, Julie and husband Paul of Grayslake, IL; one brother-in-law James Boyd Taylor (a twin of her husband, Byron) and his two children, Sheryl Davis of Dallas and Derl Taylor of McKinney; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. |

Obituary: FORT WORTH -- Alton "Herb" Taylor, 84, passed away , Feb. 19, 2012. : 2 p.m. at Handley United Methodist Church. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. at Shannon Rose Hill Chapel. Memorial: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Handley United Methodist Church. Herb was born in a farmhouse in Gunter on Oct. 14, 1926. When he was 1, he moved in a covered wagon to Denison. He attended a one-room country school for seven years. He graduated in 1944 from Denison High School, where he was a member of FFA and showed the grand champion Herford beef calves for three consecutive years. Herb graduated from Southeastern University in 1949. For 35 years he was with the Turner Young Investment Co. as a mortgage bankers loan officer and vice president. He retired in 1997. He was a member of Handley United Methodist Church and a former member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church. While a member of Meadowbrook, he was instrumental in getting the elevator to the second floor installed in memory of his immediate family. Herb married Betty Lee Crump in 1960; she preceded him in death in 1975. had one daughter, Tamara Taylor-Cotter. Tamara and her son, Brendon Cotter, preceded him in death on Easter in 2000. In 2004 he married Nancy Killman, a friend for many years. He will be missed by his family, friends and the "breakfast buddies." Obituary: Alphonso (Al) Taylor, son of Willard Taylor and Evon Viney was born in Stringtown, Oklahoma on 11, 1936. He departed this life on , 3, 2015 after a beautiful life of service to God, Family and Humanity. Having been reared in a Christian home, he accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Oak Hill Baptist Church, Kempner, Texas prior to his illness. He was one of three children. His parents, sister and brother have preceded him in death. He attended school in Oklahoma and Missouri. He joined the United States Army and retired with twenty one years of service. While serving in the Army he was united in marriage to Opal, 25, 1971. He graduated in 1974 from Oklahoma Farriers . He was President in 1999 of the American Association of Sheriff Posses & Riding Clubs, President of the Cove Saddle Club, active Trail Boss on Al Taylors trail rides. He was on the Kempner Water Board of Directors. Al Taylor leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Opal Taylor. Sons: Michael (Valerie), Kenneth (Kathy), Mark and Phillip. Daughters: Charlotte, Jennifer, Joanie, Jackie (Carl) and Shelia. Army family: Lloyd Antoine (Denise), Ricardo Jones and Wilma Reese. Twenty-five grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
