Obituary: Roland Thacker, age 96, beloved husband, brother, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on 24th, 2016 in Smyrna, TN. He was born in Anderson, Alabama on 5th, 1919 to a family with seven brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnathan Alexander Thacker and mother, Lillie Belle Hubbard, his beloved wife of 72 years, Mabel Louise Thacker, three sisters Jewell, Tressie, and Maybelle, as well as four brothers Calvin, Henry Alexander, and Bollin. Mr. Thacker is survived by his two children, Janet Will (Richard) of Waseca, Minnesota and Ronnie Thacker (Debra) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren; eight great grand children, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. A veteran of World War II, he served as a private first-class in Germany where he earned a Bronze Star for distinguished service and bravery in the midst of combat. He served as a farm hand on his mother’s farm before and after his time in the service. He also served as a foreman with Marion Construction for over 20 years building many of the interstate bridges in Middle Tennessee. He was an avid gardener with his wife and had a particular love for basketball, which he played in school growing up. He was a member of Florence Church of Christ in Murfreesboro TN. A celebration of life service will take place on , 28, 2016 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton funeral home in Nashville. Obituary: Robert Valton Thacker was born 14, 1919 where he was reared on farms in Forsyth , North Carolina. high school he was employed as a stock boy at the local Kress store in Winston-Salem. working in 5 stores he became manager in 5 additional stores, coming to Chattanooga in 1958. He left Kress in 1962 and formed a partnership Style-Crest Furniture making upholstered goods. The plant was sold in 1972 and he entered retirement. He was a veteran of WWII, a past president of the Optimist Club, and a member of the First Babtist Church in Chattanooga. In 1960 he married Laura Selcer Clark who died in 2008. His first wife Ruby Sink died in 1957. Surviving are daughter Betsy (Wayne) Merritt, son Mike ( Diana) Thacker, and beloved step daughter Ann (Bob) Beatty, also 8 grand Children, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. His burial in Pitts at Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been made according to his wishes next to his dear wife Laura; with deepest regards to friends and associates he leaves to join his Maker. She was born in Minor Hill, Tennessee on 1st, 1920 to a family with five brothers and sisters. She is preceded in death by her father, Hollis Washington Rogers and mother, Cora Velma Newton, one sister Orlean, and three brothers, Thomas, Clifton, and James. Mrs. Thacker is survived by her husband of 72 years Roland Thacker; her sister, Annie Jean McConnell, two children, Janet Will (Richard) of Waseca, Minnesota and Ronnie Thacker (Debra) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee ; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was homemaker by trade who raised many other children, skilled cook who never let anyone leave hungry, and avid gardener who loved her flowers especially her Lilies and Iris. She was a lifelong follower of basketball and played center on her team from Minor Hill, Tennessee growing up. She also was a member of Florence Church of Christ in Murfreesboro TN. A celebration of life service will take place on , 22nd, 2015 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton ’s Dignity Hall in Nashville.
