Obituary: Vernice H. Tiller, 87, of Abbeville, wife of 68 years to the late William Bill N. Tiller, died peacefully surrounded by her family on , 25, 2014 at her home. She was born in Muscogee, FL to the late Will and Lucy Linton Hardy. Mrs. Tiller retired after 12 years with the Abbeville Shirt Plant and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, William Billy Tiller, Jr.; a grandson, Jay Davis; a brother, Lonnie Hardy and a sister, Annie Mae Holland. Surviving Mrs. Tiller are her six children; David O. Tiller and his wife Margaret of Rocky Mount, NC, Harry L. Tiller and his wife Nedra of Aiken, SC, Randy Tiller and his wife Shirlyne of Greenwood, SC, Paul Tiller and his wife Linda of Abbeville, Alice M. Blea and her husband Phillip of Blue Springs, Missouri and Pam Driver and her husband Tim of Woodruff, SC; three sisters, Elsie Manning, Helen Allen and her husband Clyde and Margie Kennedy all of Cantonment, FL; seventeen grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on , 27, 2014 at Harris . services will begin at 2:30PM on , 27, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Long officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home. Obituary: Mary Henderson Tiller, 90, of Abbeville, wife of the late Howard W. Tiller, Sr., died peacefully on , 13, 2014 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Laurens to the late Thomas F. and Mary Going Henderson. many years of service she retired from the Abbeville-Milliken Plant. She was a caregiver for several years and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Eugene Genieboy Tiller and Robert Walker Bobby Tiller. Surviving Mrs. Tiller are her two sons, Howard W. Chunky Tiller, Jr and his wife Ann and Joseph Allen Joe Tiller all of Abbeville; two brothers, Jack M. Henderson and Charles E. Henderson; two sisters, Frances Carpenter and Betty Stewart; three grandchildren, Andy Tiller, Jeanie Tiller (Dean) and Jason Sutherland; a great-granddaughter, Marysa McCollum and a host of extended family and friends. Obituary: Margaret Peggy Tiller COLUMBIA - Margaret Peggy Tiller, 57, passed away on , 7, 2012, at the Brian after a long battle with cancer. Peggy is survived by her husband, Joseph Tiller of Columbia, SC; her parents, Roger and Frances Alton of Virginia Beach, VA; her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bert Reavis of Virginia Beach, VA; her niece, Amy Giulioni and husband, Brandon of Charleston, SC; her niece, Erin Reavis of Virginia Beach, VA; and great-nephew, Phillip Reavis of Virginia Beach, VA. Peggy was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on 10, 1955. She graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School and Longwood . She received her Masters Degree in Education from Old Dominion University. Peggy taught for 34 years: 3 years in Portsmouth, VA, and 31 years at Condor Elementary in Richland , SC. Visitation is on , 11, from 6-8 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at Caughman-Harman of Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Obituary: Dr. Wendell Howard Tiller, 93, retired orthopaedic surgeon, died at home after a brief illness. Born 17, 1920, Dr. Tiller is survived by his wife, Martha Ivey, of 65 years. were married May 28, 1949. He was the son of Wendell Holmes Tiller and Ruth Howard Lanham. A native of Spartanburg, Dr. Tiller attended Southside School and graduated from Spartanburg High School (the Evans Building). Dr. Tiller entered Wake Forest , Wake Forest, NC, in 1938. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940, and graduated from Wake Forest with a B.S. in 1942. He entered Bowman Gray School of Medicine and graduated in 1944. Dr. Tiller completed an internship at North Carolina Baptist Hospital whereupon he entered service in the U.S. Navy. being released from the Navy in 1946, he began practice in Hendersonville, NC, as a General Practitioner. Later he moved to Woodruff, SC for a brief period. In 1948, he returned to Bowman Gray School of Medicine to begin an Orthopaedic Residency. In 1950, Wendell and Martha moved to Brookline, MA to continue his Orthopaedic Residency at Boston Childrens Hospital. returned to Spartanburg to begin his orthopaedic practice in the Schuyler Office and Apartment Building. The family moved to Quantico, VA for two years where Wendell served during the Korean Conflict. He was in charge of a 200-bed ward of soldiers recuperating from injuries in Korea. Dr. Tiller and family returned to Spartanburg where he resumed his practice (Spartanburg Orthopaedic Clinic) in the Schuyler Building. In partnership with several other physicians in Spartanburg, he opened a new office in the Professional Office Building on North Church Street. In 1968, he reorganized his practice in the name of Spartanburg Orthopaedic Associates, PA, which was the first medical practice to become a Professional Association in South Carolina. Dr. Tiller was a member of First Presbyterian Church, attended the Purnell School Class, and served as an Elder. In 1985 he received a plaque recognizing 30 years of service at the Crippled Childrens Clinic, which was his special love. He delivered meals for over 20 years at Mobile Meals after he retired (until he was 91). He was a member of Rotary International for 46 years and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He served as President of the Spartanburg Medical Society and the SC Orthopaedic Association. He was a member of the American of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American of Surgeons. Other survivors include two daughters, one son, and their spouses: Linda Tiller McHam (Gary), Frank Tiller (Mary Lewis), and Martha Tiller Foster (Dan), all of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a son, W. Howard Tiller, Jr. MD (Nancy) in 2003; and a daughter, Barbara Tiller Barragan (Bruce) in 2006. His grandchildren include: Mollie Barragan, Maggie Barragan, Elizabeth Barragan, Louise Tiller, Walker Tiller, Ivey Foster, Sam Foster, Martin Tiller (Teal) and Harrison Tiller. Great-grandchildren include JoHannah and Collin Morgan, Mollie Barragans children. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM , 3, 2014, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service for Dr. Tiller will be conducted at 11:00 AM , 4, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by The Rev. Dr. Tom Evans, The Rev. Joanne Hull, and The Rev. Richard Thomas. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or a charity of ones choice.
