Obituary: COLUMBIA Memorial service for Dorothy Glass Taylor, 89, will be held at 3:00 p.m. , 15, 2015, at Dunbar , Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Taylor died , 4, 2015. Born in Magella, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Olen E. and Marie Rutherford Glass. She volunteered at the VA Hospital and was a member of V.F.W., Post 641 Auxillary and MOCA Auxillary. Surviving are her son, Steven E. Taylor of Asheville, N.C. and a sister, Anne Lenoir of Maplesville, Ala. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd E. Taylor; brother, Oliver Warr and a sister, Ellen Fuller. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. |

Obituary: Doris Farnsworth Gilbert Taylor, our sweet "Baba", age 86, died on , 20, 2014. She was the widow of James W. Gilbert, and wife of William C. Taylor, Jr. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born on 20, 1928 in Greenville, S.C. she was the caring daughter of the late Wallace Henry Farnsworth and Ollie Southern Farnsworth. Music was an ever-present part of her life. She was offered a full voice scholarship to Westminster School of Music, which she declined to work for her father at Farnsworth Furniture . Baba was a pianist at Central Baptist Church from 1949-1954 and a contralto soloist at First Presbyterian Church from 1954-1967. Baba delighted in playing piano and singing songs with family and friends, and reliving her days as a pianist at the Poinsett Club. A graduate of Greenville High School, Doris began as a Secretary at Delph Hardware . Over the next 35 years, she studied business related courses at Ohio State University and Baldwin-Wallace at the University of Houston. She eventually worked her way up to the Greenville Branch Manager, of the then named, Pleasants Hardware Consultants. As a member of Women in Construction and the first female Architectural Hardware Consultant in the Southeast, she was respected by all who dealt with her professionally and personally. Doris was chosen to receive the George P. Merrill Memorial Award, an award for significant contributions and services made to the hardware industry in North America. Baba is survived by her husband, William C. Taylor, Jr. of Greenville, S.C. She is also survived by her brother, Lt. Col. William W. Farnsworth (Gilla) of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Baba had two adoring daughters, Becky Phillips (Johnny) of Greer, S.C. and Julie Cote' (Patrick) of Rock Hill, S.C. In addition, she had three step-children, Bill Taylor, III (Carolyn), Ann Morgan (Scott), and Bob Taylor. Baba was a loving grandmother to 4 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. When asked, Baba said her children and grandchildren were her proudest achievements. Strong in her faith, she was continuously active in her churches, Central Baptist, First Presbyterian, St. Giles Presbyterian and Aldersgate United Methodist. She was a former member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Amy McCall, of Atkins , for her loving advocacy, care and support of Baba during her time of illness. Amy's experience, knowledge, and empathy made this transition much easier for Baba and the family. service will be , 23 at 3:00pm at Woodlawn with visitation prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. A private burial will follow the service.
