Obituary: Dora Jean Walden Cox Tiemann Dora was born on the family farm in Loretto, Nebraska on 21, 1926, to William Charles Walden and Eva Pearl Mather Walden . She died in Omaha Nebraska on 6, 2015 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and & 15 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Tiemann, her granddaughter Angela Robinson, Great granddaughter Kasey Cox, her parents, William and Eva, one brother Arthur, and four sisters, Esther, Pauline, Pearl and Mary. She is survived by her children, William of Lincoln Nebraska, Bonnie and her husband Bill of Peculiar, Missouri, Robert and his wife Tara Omaha, and Beverly of Omaha as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews Dora grew up in on a farm near Albion and Spalding Nebraska. She started school in district 24 near Petersburg Ne. The small country school house was 2 ½ miles from the family farm. She often went to school by horse and buggy driven by her brother Arthur or she rode her pony Tricks. Dora started the 9th grade in Albion Nebraska while staying with the Wallick Family but, was unable to finish as her mother fell ill and she needed to return to home to provide care for her mother and to help do chores on the farm. When she was 18 years old she left home and moved to Albion Nebraska. Her first job for a wage\. was as a dishwasher in a retirement home in Albion. She later moved to Columbus Nebraska and lived with her sister Pearl and her husband Jim. While living in Columbus she worked for Swift and dressing chickens. Dora meat her first husband Robert Cox while living in Albion, Nebraska. On 8th, 1946 she married Robert Roy Cox in Central City Nebraska. Dora and Bob made their home in Saint Edward, Nebraska where they worked as farm hands. On 4, 1947 Dora gave birth to her first son William Thomas at the Saint Edward Hospital, in St Edward Nebraska. The hospital at that time was a one room hospital on the upper floor of the only Hardware Store in town. Fourteen months later on 19, 1948 she gave birth to her daughter Bonnie Jean at the same hospital in Saint Edward. lived in Albion Nebraska for a short time after Bonnies birth then moved to Columbus Nebraska where Bob worked in an alfalfa mill. In 1952 Dora and Bob moved to Omaha. Doras first job in Omaha was as a waitress at a truck stop on L street. In 1955 Dora was given the news that she was expecting twins! Robert Anthony and Beverley Ann were born at Saint Joseph Hospital in Omaha Nebraska on 11, 1955. Her baby twins were her pride and joy! Dora continued work as a fry cook at several local restaurants one of them at Leisure Lane Bowling Alley to help support for her family In 1962 Dora started her job at Craft Guild. She worked on a sanding machine sanding pieces of oak and walnut to be used on plaques and trophies. Craft Guild was later purchased by Joslins. Dora and Bob were divorced in 1964; she continued her job at Craft Guild and often took on extra work in the evening and weekends cleaning office buildings. In 1967 Dora became engaged to Louis Gerber, shortly after the engagement Louis was diagnosed with cancer. Dora stayed by his side\\\committed to Louis up until the day his death in 1971. On 20, 1982 Dora married Carl Thiemann in Omaha, Nebraska. Carl and Dora enjoyed several years of travel before Carl fell ill and passed away on 1, 1992. Dora retired from Joslins in 1988 after 27 years of employment In 2004 Dora moved to Papillion, Nebraska, Monarch Villa where she made her home for the remainder of her years. She made many friends there and enjoyed the monthly potlucks as well as playing bingo, rumi cubes and her card playing buddies especially Theresa and Leah. She also enjoyed afternoons at the Ralston Senior for lunch and cards. In her youth she enjoyed her horse Tricks and her life of the farm. She always told many stories of her life on the farm with her brother and sisters. Some of Doras hobbies in her adulthood was bowling and playing Bingo. She was on several bowling leagues. She also volunteered her time at a local nursing home engaging in activities with the residents She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ralston Nebraska and was active in the Naomi Ruth Circle and Untied Methodist Womens (UMW) group. In 2014\ the Trinity United Methodist women choose to honor two sisters at their district meeting\ Dora and her sister Mary McLain for their support of mission work through the Womens Division. She had a giving heart\. always willing to do for others and her children before herself. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her as the best cook in Nebraska; especially know for her homemade chicken and noodles and her homemade pies and birthday cakes. under the direction of Kahler Dolce Mortuary, Papillion, NE. |
