Obituary: On 11, 1920 Norma was the first born of six children of Charles and Edith Wamhoff of Hopkins. She personified BIG sister by becoming a role model to many in her personal and career life. Mom of Susan and Mark, Wife of Robert (Bob), Business Partner in the dairy farm operation, School Teacher, Principal, School Teacher, maker; she did it all with dedication and excellence. She married Bob on 28, 1947 and they were loving and committed partners until his death in 2010. On 1, 2014 she left peacefully to join him. Norma began her teaching career in 1939 following a year of training at the Allegan Normal School. In her first few years as a teacher in one room rural schools in Monterey and Hopkins, she was barely older than some of the farm boys in her class. She was required to arrive early and build a coal fire to warm the building for her students. a ten year pause to raise her young children she returned to the classroom in 1962 as both a teacher and a student. She completed her degree in Elementary Education at Western Michigan University while teaching at Moline Elementary School. Eventually she became Principal and finally retired from the Wayland Union Schools in the early 1980s. Norma and Bob enjoyed a long and active retirement on their farm in Dorr Township. took up golfing, did some traveling and enjoyed the company of their relatives and friends. were founding members of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Dorr. Norma pursued her interests in perennial gardening and in putting up fresh vegetables and fruits. Most of all she loved spending time with her four grandchildren from infancy to adulthood to parenthood. Norma touched the lives of many people in her life, students, colleagues and most of all her family. She was smart, caring, diligent, wise, loyal, loving, generous and beautiful to boot to quote her brother. She will be missed by her son Mark TerAvest, daughter, Susan (Daniel) McGraw, grandchildren Julie (Jacob) Goodrich, Alexandra (Mark) Lindsey, Lauren (Alan) Navis, Nicholas (Katie Middaugh) TerAvest and her great-grandchildren Charlie, Jonathan, Maxwell and Hannah, sisters Winona Langen and Marcia Jacoby and brother Jake (Marlene) Wamhoff, sisters-in-law, Irma Wamhoff and Elaine TerAvest. She was preceded by brothers Raymond and Marvin Wamhoff, brothers/sisters-in-law Raymond Langen, Fred Jacoby, Gerald and Wilma TerAvest, and Howard Schwartz and Donald TerAvest. The family thanks the staff at Railside Assisted Living for their loving care and her friends from Epiphany Lutheran Church for their love and support especially in recent years. Memorial Contributions to Epiphany Lutheran Church, The Salvation Army or Alzheimers Association would be appreciated. Visitation is scheduled for , 3, 2014 from 4pm till 8pm at the Kubiak-Cook Dorr Chapel with funeral services to be held at the Epiphany Lutheran Church on , 5, 2014 at 11am.
