Obituary: Robin Lynn Townsend, nèe Benning, age 54, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed peacefully morning, 21, 2014. Robin was the daughter of Bill and Shirley Benning. She was a graduate of Northside High School class of 1978. Robin was twice given the gift of life by her mother; first in her birth on 3, 1959, and then again 23, 1977 when it became necessary for Robin to receive a kidney transplant due to Renal failure. While both parents and brothers met all medical requirements allowing them to donate a kidney, her mother was insistent that she be the one to offer Robin a second chance for life. Robin took great pride in the success of her kidney transplant and the longevity of life it afforded her in the 37 years she survived after the transplant. She especially enjoyed traveling to the World Transplant Game conferences, where she was able to celebrate life while meeting other transplant recipients who all share a common life story. Robin is survived by her mother, Shirley Benning, of Fort Smith; brothers William Benning of Nicut, Oklahoma and Gregory Benning of Nashville, TN; nieces Jennifer Benning of Fort Smith and Sarah Benning of Denver Colorado. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, , 28th at Oak Cliff Baptist Church, 3701 Gary St., Fort Smith, Arkansas. are under the direction of Edwards . Obituary: Dr. James Townsend, 74, of Arkansas, passed away suddenly on , 29, 2011, at Baptist Medical . He was born 9, 1936, in Evansville to James Franklin and Elma Galloway Townsend. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He met Jean York, a student nurse, whom he married after her graduation from St. Marys School of and after he served in the United States Air Force. Dr. Townsend graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, IN with degrees in chemistry and biology. The family lived in Ames, IA for six years where Dr. Townsend received a PhD in physiology and entomology. His years of professional activity included teaching premedical students and serving as a research scientist. Those who knew him best would say he was friendly with a calm manner, and that he was a good neighbor. He was an excellent listener and could be an active participant in a conversation regarding any subject matter. He cannot be replaced, but his spirit for learning, and willingness to share will live on within the realm of family and friends. James is survived by one son, Eric; and a special granddaughter, Cleo Townsend. Services will be 10:00 AM , 7, 2011, at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2800 Hartmetz Avenue. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Music Ministry, 501 North Shackleford, Little Rock, AR 72211. |
