Obituary: Mr. Darrell Delayne Throckmorton departed to be with our Lord on , 25, 2015. He was born on 8, 1928 in Denmark, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gladys Greer Throckmorton along with his seven children: Lanny Delayne Throckmorton and wife Victoria, Deana Diane Throckmorton, Charles Rodney Throckmorton and his wife Diana, Jacqueline Renee Hogan and her husband Jerry, Stephanie Throckmorton Duty and her husband Howard, Darrell Scott Throckmorton and his wife Angelin and DeLayna Arlene Allen and her husband Rob. Darrell left behind thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Throckmorton is also survived by his sisters, Bernice Throckmorton Marshall of Little Rock and Wilma Throckmorton Mason of Velvet Ridge, along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Naomi Montgomery, Oneida Roddie and Zola Shockley; three brothers, Gaylen, Tommy and Gerald Throckmorton, as well as his parents, mother, Edna Alred Throckmorton and father, Edward Throckmorton, both of Velvet Ridge. Darrell graduated from Bald Knob High School in 1948 where he played offense and defense on an undefeated BKHS football team! He attended UCA for two years. Mr. Throckmorton was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the Airforce in 1946-1947 and in the Army, 1950-1953. Darrell was an entrapenueral businessman and provided many jobs for the citizens of his community with his businesses throughout the years – D&D Welding, T&R Realty, Big D Construction … Hence his name to many, BIG D. Darrell was a founder and charter member of the Bald Knob Country Club. He was Construction Superintendent over the entire Northern Slope of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline in the 1970s & 80s. He also worked in countries around the globe, including Turkey, Costa Rica and Iraq. His expertise in the field of construction as it related to pipelines was legendary. He was well respected and always known to be a man of his word. His heart was huge for his family and his fellowman and he was indeed a Patriot. Mr. Throckmorton was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner and very compassionate to those in need. Darrell was a Christian and a member of Central Baptist Church in Bald Knob. From Velvet Ridge to the White House… Darrell had BIG dreams and many were fulfilled. He was always active in local and state politics as he encouraged his family and friends to be engaged in the political process – always an outstanding citizen – Darrell was a man for all time – a true gentleman. He enjoyed tennis, boxing, golf, dominos, checkers and chess. He also enjoyed his family – he was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. His grandchildren have heard many of the tales of their Paw Paws great adventures… as he was indeed one of the worlds best story tellers!!! He taught his children and grandchildren to be strong; he also taught us that God, family and country should be in the correct order in our lives. Darrell always set an example as a great provider. He taught his family that if you need something, go out and work for it and you will have it! He always encouraged advanced education for all of his family. His example will remind us that we can be anything we want to be with desire, hard work and the Lords blessings. He was an incredible man; his integrity and strength will inspire us to live up to his standards. We will all miss you every day and we will see you again.
