Obituary: Beloved father and grandfather, Frank McDonald Thompson, 75, of Searcy, passed away on , 30, 2015. A Searcy native, Frank was born on 28, 1939, to his beloved parents, the late Margaret and Maurice Thompson. Frank built a career in banking and finance and proudly worked in the Little Rock business community for more than three decades. He held executive positions at Commonwealth Federal, Superior Federal, SALFASCO, Inc., including his lengthiest tenure as Vice President at First Federal Savings and Loan. In addition to his work, Frank had a lifelong passion for music. His talent on the trombone won him the John Phillip Souza Award in high school, earned a scholarship to Ole Miss where he marched in three Sugar Bowls and a Cotton Bowl, and represented his university and country in the Worlds Fair in Brussels, Belgium in 1958. He began his career leading high school and junior high bands in both Texas and Mississippi as band director, composed original scores, and inspired an appreciation for music in his children and grandchildren. Frank always put family first, and they were the center of his life. He was happily married to the late Sandra Schillinger Thompson of Searcy for 48 years. He is survived by his brother Jim Thompson, of Searcy, his three sons, Todd A. Thompson, of Brentwood, Tennessee, CPT Steven V. Thompson, of Heber Springs, and Jeffrey P. Thompson, of Reno, Nevada. Frank was very proud of his ten grandchildren, Heather, 17, Zach, 16, Emily, 14, Jacob, 14, Courtney, 13, Lillian, 7, Elijah, 6, Aurora, 6, Sandra, 2, and Truckee, 1. His love for life was infectious. When not at work, you could find Frank on the golf course. He hit the links at courses across the country, but it was at home where he made his greatest memory. On the second hole at Searcy Country Club, Frank made a hole-in-one. In addition to golf, he also enjoyed the lake, tinkering with his MG-B, and playing and watching sports with his sons. A Celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on , 3, at Powell in Searcy. Friends and family are also welcome for evening visitation, from 6 to 8 p.m. Our family would like to thank Dr. Tom Sneed, Dr. Joseph Wyble, and Arkansas hospice for their excellent care, service, and compassion. As an alternative to flowers, donations to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital are appreciated. |
