Obituary: Robert Archie Taunton, 75, of Huttig, AR passed away May 6, 2017 at Northern Louisiana Medical in Ruston. Born 3, 1942 he was the son of Riley Archie and Lois Erlene Gates Taunton. Robert was well-known for his athletic prowess, lettering in track, football, basketball and baseball and later receiving an offer to tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals. He attended Arkansas State Teachers in Conway, receiving his Bachelors Degree in Education and began his coaching career soon afterward. He enjoyed his years as football coach at Barton and El Dorado High. Coach was much beloved by his former players, having acted as a surrogate dad for more than a few, and remained close to many of them for the rest of his life. His love of hunting, fishing and the outdoors led him and Lisa to relocate to Colorado in 1995. Making this move resulted in a cherished lifetime friendship with Tom and Tammi Bieser, who, in turn provided Rob and Lisa an endless amount of adventure and joy. Robert was generous with his love and time, but not his pocketbook (tight as tree bark)!!!! He was crafty and sly, and was often compared to Tom Sawyer when it came to delegating chores. As one of his nieces said Uncle Bob was Uncle Bob. He made us laugh, he was funny and comical, we always felt good in his presence, and he loved us unconditionally. Preceding him in death along with his parents was his wife Lisa Taunton. Surviving are his son, Brett Taunton, of Hot Springs, AR, step-daughter, Casey Cates of El Dorado, step-son, Coley Cates of Madison, MS, sisters, Erlene Swan (Jerry) of Crossett and Anita Liles of Raleigh, NC and a brother, Donny Taunton of Crossett. Surviving grandchildren are Brooke Taunton, Gabriel Pinkerton, Hannah and Jack Lolley, Virginia and Miller Cates. services will be held at 10:00 a.m. , May 11, 2017 at Union Methodist Protestant Church near Strong with Rev. Donald Ray Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Baptist Church in Crossett under the direction of Youngs Directors. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young's Directors. The family cannot overstate how appreciative we are of the Union Methodist Protestant Church. At every opportunity they have exemplified the Lords wish to love thy neighbor. Memorials may be made to Union Methodist Protestant Church, or the Unity Baptist Church . Obituary: Lois Erlene Taunton, age 92, of Crossett, AR passed away on 20, 2015 at Stonegate Villa & Rehab. She was born on 17, 1922 in Bonita, LA to her late parents, Henry E. and Eva Jane Meeks Gates. Mrs. Taunton was a retired bookkeeper from the Sterling Store. She loved to travel and share time with her family and friends. Mrs. Taunton was an avid quilter and handmade one for each of her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the First Church of God. Mrs. Taunton was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Riley A. Taunton. Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Obituary: Lisa Anne Elmore Taunton, 64, born 19, 1950, passed away 26, 2015 at her home in Strong, AR. She is survived by her spouse, Robert Taunton; brothers Ralph and Ronnie Elmore, two children, Casey and Coley Cates, one stepson, Brett Taunton; and 6 grandchildren, to whom she devoted her time and showered with affection. Throughout the years Lisa displayed an indomitable spirit, a zest for life, and a love for her family, unselfishly giving of herself to anyone in need. A majorette and flute player in high school, she was known to challenge her daughter to a test of baton twirling or flute skills from time to time, in which she always prevailed. She was prolific in many colorful expressions, none of which are printable in newspapers. In her life, she owned a limousine service, appraised and sold real estate, marketed, merchandised, and promoted for several different companies, including RJ Reynolds, Kraft, and Hallmark. She was an avid morning collector, luring her granddaughters or any other unsuspecting victim to yard and estate sales countywide, later turning her hobby into a lucrative online business. A wonderful cook like her mother before her, some of her more notorious specialties included Strawberry (Pepto Bismol) Cake and prefabricated yam patties, which were the butt of many jokes, but still always on the table. A lover of animals, she rescued abused horses, nursing them from near death to championship form. Her affection drew her to become a 4-H leader in Union county for many years. Lisa also avidly participated in equestrian trail rides, completing the 1,350 mile Chief Joseph Trail of Tears over the course of many years. Our mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend was the love of our life, who shined her light into ours with kindness and laughter, always strove to bring the best out in others, keep the family strong, love unconditionally, and lead by example. We will miss her in this lifetime, but are assured we will see her once again in paradise. Visitation will be held , Jan 29th at Youngs in El Dorado, AR from 6-8pm. The will be held Jan 30th, 11 am at Union Methodist Protestant Church, 118 Sweet Rd, Strong AR. Burial will follow at Unity Baptist Church in Crossett, AR under the direction of Youngs Directors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Union Methodist Protestant Church to continue their missions work spreading the love of Jesus Christ. |
