Mom to Toni and Mark; mother-in-law to Jan; Granny to Mallory, Mason, Kathryn and Jacob; sister of Albert and Ashley; daughter of Irma; but mostly a friend to all. If you were fortunate enough to have been touched by Carol, you would completely understand the special person that she was. Carol’s touch was everlasting. We thank all of her friends who never stopped showing their love and support. A very special thanks to Grandma and Albert. Obituary: CARL T. TURPIN COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LOUISIANA services for Carl Tilghman Turpin, 89 years- old, and lifelong resident of Bastrop Louisiana, will be held May 6, 2016 at 10:00 am at Cox Bastrop, Louisiana with Brother Richard Gambill officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Church . Visitation with the family will be held at Cox on May 5th, from 5:00 till 7:00 pm. Mr. Turpin was born in Bastrop on May 4, 1926 and passed away on May 3, 2016, also in Bastrop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Thurman and Lucile Corbin Turpin; brothers, Allen T. Turpin, Jr. and Corbin J. Turpin, and sister Dorothy Turpin Amman. He was a Christian man and member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop Louisiana, where he sang in the choir, taught school classes and served as a deacon for decades. Mr. Turpins college career was interrupted when he joined the Army during World War II, serving in Europe in the infantry. He returned to finish his degree in civil engineering at LSU before joining in the family lumber and building materials business, becoming the president of the company, as it grew into a multi-state business. He was also a partner in a related company, Midland Building Materials, in Monroe Louisiana. Mr. Turpin was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, and gardener of both roses and vegetables. In 1983 he and his wife founded the Morehouse Humane Society, the first organized animal care and protection agency in the parish. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Helen Walker Turpin; his son, Dr. Carl T. Turpin, Jr. and wife, Mary K. Robinson Turpin; his daughter, Fay Lucile Turpin Thomas and husband, Harold D. Thomas all of Bastrop Louisiana; his five grandsons, Dr. Matt Turpin and wife, Jennifer Mullins Turpin; Dr. John Turpin and wife, Tiffany Teague Turpin, all of West Monroe, Louisiana; Dr. Stephen Turpin and wife, Elizabeth Adams Turpin, of Ruston, Louisiana; Josh Thomas and wife, Melissa Williams Thomas, of Flowood, Mississippi; and James Thomas and wife, Dr. Stephanie Jones Thomas, of St. Charles, Missouri; his nine great grandchildren; Max Turpin, Kate Turpin, Annelise Turpin, Luke Turpin, Patrick Turpin, Stella Turpin, Samuel Thomas, Eva Kate Thomas, and Caleb Thomas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and Herbie Stuart. Honorary pallbearers will be Delton Hearne, Jonathan Edwards, Mac Henderson, Frank Reese and the deacons of First Baptist Church, Bastrop Louisiana. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Sampognaro and Dr. James Michael Smith for their compassionate care, and to his caregivers, Anita Fay Barker, Mac Henderson and the wonderful staff of Lagniappe Skilled .
