Obituary: JIMMY CARLTON TURNER, AGE 74 OAK GROVE, LOUISIANA Cox Oak Grove, Louisiana services for Jimmy Turner, age 74, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be 2PM, , May 26, 2015, at Cox . Visitation will be from 2PM - 9PM at Cox . Reverend James Kitchens will officiate. Interment will be in the New Forest . Services are under the direction of Cox . He passed away on , May 22, 2015 from injuries sustained in a tractor and vehicle accident near Oak Grove. Jimmy was a member of New Zion Baptist Church but he often visited Goodwill Church of God and Goodwill Baptist Church and loved so many pastors and all his friends at each. He served in the US Army. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1959. During his high school years, Jimmy was the first Ag student to be awarded State Star Farmer from Oak Grove. Jimmy obtained a loan through FFA during the ninth grade to purchase cattle. Upon his graduation he had a herd of cattle on his dads 40 acre pasture. Jimmy worked along with his Dad in the Turner Plant Farm located in Oak Grove for many years. He was a self taught expert horticulturist. For many years he grew a vegetable garden at his old home place and at his residence. His love of tomato plants was his everyday life. So many friends, neighbors, and businesses have received a gift box of vegetables delivered to them for years. Truly his greatest joy in life was giving. Jimmy spent many hours talking on the phone. Friends and family often received a call as early as 6:00 AM which could last well past one hour. He is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Cole Harris; son, Ronnie Turner; son, Danny Harris; parents, William Howard Bill Turner and Ruth Fay Puckett Turner; brother, Jerry Dexter Turner; brother, W. F. Turner; and sister, Joann Morris. He is survived by son, Kevin Turner of Oak Grove, Louisiana; son, Johnny Harris of Oak Grove; son, Huey Harris, Jr. of Oak Grove; son, David Harris of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Tammy Turner of Swartz, Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Glenn Jones of Oak Grove; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Jack McKoin of Monroe, Louisiana; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers are: Donald Sasser, Jack Hamilton, Eddie Gregory, Harold D. Scott, Randy Gregory and Kenneth Gregory. Honorary Pallbearers are: Nelson Cole, Doug Bailey, Chester Abernathy, Wayne Holley, Mike Turner and all of the Gregory Family. Obituary: Jeptha Edgar Turner, Jr., 96, passed away evening, 13, 2016, in a local care facility. Jep was born in Vinton, Louisiana and spent his childhood in Orange, Texas. He attended Houston Business which led to his employment at PanAm Oil in Texas City. The day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served as a radio operator on the Block Island during World War II. his honorable discharge, he returned to Sulphur, Louisiana where he went to work for Cities Service Refinery and worked in the instrumentation department for over 33 years. He had a love and a passion for fishing the Gulf of Mexico and enjoyed sharing that with others on his charter boat, the Gulf Queen. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed historical non-fiction. He was often mistaken for an American Press columnist in that he frequently wrote Letters to the Editor and most recently penned his memoirs. He always had great stories to share since he had total recall of almost a century of life and world events. During his retirement years, he continued to enjoy fishing locally. In his 80s, he invented and manufactured the original Mighty-Mite hang and release anchor. He also built bird houses that were erected all along our beautiful Lakeshore Drive at one time. This was his tribute to the city that his great-great-great-grandfather Jacob Ryan founded. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 61 years, Virginia Ball Turner; two sons Scott Turner (Mary) of Lake Charles, Steven Turner (Bridget) of Powder Springs, GA; two daughters Sheryl Crador (Rick) of Lake Charles, Susan Titterington (Chris) of Houston, TX; grandchildren Haleigh Turner, Tyler Turner, Hannah Turner, Joshua Turner, Evan Crador, Madelyn Crador, Annie Titterington, Sophie Titterington, and great granddaughter Marleigh Trahan. A special thanks for the compassionate care from the Harbor Hospice nurses and also to the staff of Brookdale and the Guardian House for the care provided to Jep during the recent months of decline. The family will always be grateful. Services will be held at Hixson of Lake Charles on , 17, 2016 at 11:00am. Visitation will be held on , 16, 2016 from 5:00-8:00pm and will resume on from 9:00am until the time of the service. Darrell Spencer of First Baptist Church will officiate.
