Obituary: Robert Gregory Taylor, Sr. of Ponchatoula, LA was born on 18, 1953 and passed away on , 18, 2021 with his son and daughter at his side. Robert, better known as The Bee Man, was the founder/owner of Ponchatoulas Best Honey which supplied many around the country with a delicious, select blend of pure Louisiana table grade honey. He was dedicated to sound beekeeping practices. Robert had been professionally removing honey bees from structures since 1987 and had over 45 years of experience as a highly skilled finish carpenter/cabinet maker. He loved sharing his knowledge of bees by bringing exhibits to schools, libraries, and nursing homes; as well as speaking at many conventions, seminars, and beekeeping institutes. Robert spent several years as a volunteer fire fighter at the Eighth Ward Volunteer Fire Department in Robert, LA. But his most cherished times were spent with his family. Robert, PawPaw, was passionate about passing onto his grandchildren his love and knowledge of gardening, bread baking, raising animals, woodworking, bee removal, beekeeping, and so much more. He always looked forward to their yearly hiking trips in the mountains. Whatever Robert did, he did with great diligence and zeal. He was a man of strong character and had a kind and generous heart. He was also a character! You could always expect a good laugh when being with him. He will truly be missed not only by his family and friends, but all those he served through his bee business. He was the loving father of Robert G. Taylor, Jr. (Tiffany) and Ashley T. Ferrand. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Gregory Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Kaylee T. Ezell (Brandon), Grey Taylor, Riley and Alex Ferrand, his 3 great-grandchildren: Bentley Wooters and Amara Ezell, Avery Taylor; his sisters: Susan Wadick (Jim), Patti Lapeyre (Robert), Peggy Bailey (Richard); his brothers: Jay Taylor, David Taylor (Missy), his beloved nieces and nephews, uncles, numerous cousins; and his lifetime best friend Buck Grieshaber. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Fant Taylor, Sr. and Shirley Scanlan Taylor, and his brother John Edward Taylor. A Graveside Service will be held on , 21, 2021 at 10:00 am at Sandhill , Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The Family requests that social distancing be maintained at the cemetery during the Graveside Service. Obituary: Robert Lee Taylor, 91, of Welsh, passed away , 1, 2015, while a resident of Golden Age . Robert was born in Iowa, La. on Sept. 9, 1923. His parents were Smiley and Alta Taylor. high school, Robert joined the Army Air Corps-(now Air Force) in . gunnery school he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He completed two phases of training in a B-17 Bomber earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then was assigned to the 8th Air Force in Thurleigh, England flying with the 306th Bomb Group (H). were the first bomber penetration over Germany 27, 1943. He was awarded the Air Medal for the first five missions and an additional Oak Leaf Cluster for each additional five missions thereafter. 25 missions he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He received his discharge from the Air Force in of 1945. Robert settled in Welsh where he worked for Fontenot Motors. He became District Manager for Massey Harris Corp. in 1954 and then Massey Ferguson. In 1958 he became owner of Fontenot Motors selling Massey Ferguson farm products, and Versatile tractors. He was past President of Deep South Farm Equipment, member of Rotary Club of Welsh, and a board member of American Bank. Robert retired from Fontenot Motors in 1986. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Welsh. retirement in 1986 he loved his daily visits to Golden Age , where he later became a resident. Mr. Taylor is pre deceased by his parents, Smiley and Alta Taylor; first wife and mother of his children, Helen Taylor; and one sister, Wilda Epperly. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Merle Grubbs Taylor; son, Ronnie Taylor of Welsh; daughter, Carol and husband David Fraser of Lake Charles; three step-sons, Buddy James, Tom James and Jeff James; sister, Rena Belle Monceaux of Welsh; five grandchildren, Kent Taylor of Welsh, Laura Hawkins (Zeb) of Broussard, La., Stuart Taylor (Jessica) of Welsh, Julia F. Harris (John) of Plano, Tx,and Andrew Fraser (Katy) of Austin, Tx; four great-grandchildren, Reese Hardy, Audrey Taylor, Kynlee Hawkins and Slade Hawkins; four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Welsh on , 3, 2015 from 4-9pm. Visitation will resume on from 9:00am until time of service. Service will be , 4, 2015, 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Welsh. Reverend Jimmy Deshotel will officiate, assisted by Reverend Claude Fontenot and Reverend Dore Langley. Burial will be in Oaklawn in Welsh. Pallbearers are Biff Henning, Andrew Fraser, Stuart Taylor, Donald Epperly, Roger Brodrick and David Fraser. The family would like to thank Golden Age for their care, and a special thanks to Emily Gaskin R.N. and Renee Daniels of Heart of Hospice. |
