Obituary: Barbara L. Thacker, age 85, of McHenry, passed away , 1, 2017, at Valley Hi in Woodstock. She was born 12, 1931 in Chicago, to James N. And Lucille A. (Summers) McDonald. She attended Senn High School. On 5, 1951, she married Charles V. Thacker at Unity Lutheran Church in Chicago. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother, who for the majority of her life was a homemaker and took care of her family. However, she was a valued cashier for 15 ½ years at Eagle Food Store. She was a member of The Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake, where in her early years taught School and sang in the church choir. Barbara was an avid reader, letter writer, and liked to crochet. She especially loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren. always enjoyed playing cards and board games, and trips to Happy Jacks for lunch and ice cream. Barbara is survived by her three children, Bruce (Gay Szara) Thacker of Woodstock, Roger (Kimberly) Thacker of McHenry, and Cheryl Kalsch of McHenry; six grandchildren, Jason Thacker, Dr. Jessica Thacker, Aaron Thacker, Ashley (Chris) Kamin, Nicholas (Gina) Szara, and Anna (Seth) Krause; and three great-grandchildren, David Thacker, Max Krause, and Nora Krause. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on 14, 2010, her step-father, James Benesh, her brother, Jimmie McDonald, and her son-in-law, George Kalsch. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on , 6, 2017 at Justen & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on , 7, 2017 at the funeral home, with visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment will be immediately after the service, in Woodland , next to her husband, Charles.
