Obituary: Bobbie Jeanne Tapp, of North Adams in Mendon, Illinois, passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on May 10, 2015 after a short illness. Prior to her move to the nursing home, Jeanne lived many years in Granite City, Illinois until she and her husband, Ned, retired to Bluffton, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nedwin James Tapp. Sr. Also preceding her in death is her first husband, Carl Lee Benson; her mother, Margie Eaton; her father, George Staggs; her grandmother, Ruth Draffen; and two uncles, Vernon and Ray Draffen. She is survived by her daughters Regina Benson Freel (Doug) and Beverly Benson James (Roy, deceased), her sons Carl Benson (Brenda) and David Benson (Linda), her step son Nedwin James Tapp, Jr. (Mary Beth) and her step daughters Mary Sue Ball (Wayne) and Trudi Campbell (Brad). Jeanne is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and 4 cousins. Jeanne was a skilled seamstress, having learned from her Grandmother Ruth at a very young age. She designed and made her own patterns, providing clothing for her children and grandchildren. The walls of her home in Bluffton were adorned with beautiful artwork of the rural landscape, all of which she painted. Jeanne was a talented gardener and was very proud of her lush gardens and landscaping skills at her home in Bluffton. She and Ned affectionately named their land Whippoorwill Acres. She was blessed to have a variety of wildlife on her acreage and rarely missed giving them a daily food offering. Some of her granddaughters referred to her as Mother Nature due to her connection with the birds, wildlife, and pets. Her vast knowledge of herbs, plants, and trees, her skilled cooking, her open, welcoming arms, will be missed by all who knew her. She loved all her family and friends (whom she considered her extended family) and always jumped at the opportunity to entertain her many visitors. She was very much loved and respected by her sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Having felt loved unconditionally by her, we learned to speak freely of our love for one another. We are left with a special spot in our hearts that will always be filled by our love for her. She was the matriarch of our family and will be truly missed. In Celebration of her life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Illinois on , May 13, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles West officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home. |
