Obituary: Edna Shew Thomerson was born on 14, 1924 in Glade Springs, Virginia, and died on 18, 2014, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the eldest of six children, and was a loyal sister and daughter. She graduated from Glade Springs High School at the start of WWII, and furthered the war effort by working at a bomb factory in Saltville, Virginia. Although she attended business school, throughout her life she worked mostly in the fashion industry, did modeling and was a buyer for Montaldo's, a fashionable women's store located in Winston-Salem, NC. She also worked at The Gazebo in Reynolda Village and various other shops in Winston-Salem during her working career. In 1964 Edna married Harold W. Thomerson, Sr., and gave birth to her only child, Keith, two years later at age 41. were married for 22 years until Harold died in 1986. Edna loved her family, politics, gardening, golf, her friends and her pets. She is survived by her son Keith, his wife Carol and her granddaughter Kallan, all of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Those who knew her will never forget her infectious laughter, her energetic spirit, her loyalty and her undying devotion to those that she loved. She donated her time and energy to her friends, her family, her community and to her Church, and was a devout Christian who knew that one day she would be reunited in heaven with her husband, family and friends, a fact which gives us great comfort. In her later years, her family and friends were slowly robbed of the woman that they knew by dementia. But even as the haze of confusion swirled over her, her indomitable spirit lived on and will continue. She touched the lives of so many and so deeply that her impact on this world will live long after her physical body is no more. Infirmity and illness cannot diminish someone like her; our memory of her energy, love and smile is untarnished by the awful disease that ended her life. We will love her always and feel her love for us in our hearts. She will laid to rest alongside her husband in Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall, NC at a later date. Keith, Carol and Kallan wish to thank the staff of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for the loving care that they showed to Edna during her final months with us, as well as to the staff of Palm Garden of Jacksonville who also cared for her at the end of her life.
