Obituary: David Singer, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Old Lyme, CT on 19, 2015 surrounded by members of his family. The son of Abe Singer and Eve Zieler, David was born on 19, 1922 in Brooklyn, where he met his future wife—and fellow Brooklyn native—Rose Brown in 1941. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, David enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Only 18 years old at the time, he was fond of telling people that he got his pilots license before his drivers license. He was ultimately deployed to the Pacific Theater, where he piloted B-24 Liberator bombers in the fight against Japan. He was highly decorated, flying 69 missions without a single casualty. On May 25, 1944, he married Rose, who went on to become a well-known fashion illustrator and fine artist known as Doré Singer. were married for 65 years, until Dorés death in 2009. Together, they raised three children, Susan, Neil, and Leslie. Following the war, David taught music in Woodbury, CT, until he re-entered the military as an Army intelligence officer during the Korean War. During Davids service, the family lived in many different states as well as several countries in Europe, and lived extensively in Japan. The family also spent several years in Japan. David was an enthusiastic participant in arts activities at the bases where he was stationed, conducting the orchestra, managing a traveling chorus and directing many plays, including several with his wife and daughters. retiring from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF in 1969, David and his family settled in Old Lyme, CT, where he taught music for the East Lyme school system. David played every instrument except the guitar and the drums, most notably violin and piano. Many of his students went on to become professional musicians, composers and performers. In the late 80s, David retired from teaching to pursue his hobbies. He flew small aircraft out of Groton for day trips along the Long Island Sound, particularly enjoying the flights to Block Island, which is grandson Joshua often accompanied him on. Together with Doré, he sailed his 30-foot Newport Ichiban up and down the east coast, sometimes navigating only by the stars. David was an avid photographer throughout his life, eventually building a darkroom in his home. He was proud to win many prizes at amateur photography shows. Some of his photographs were purchased by greeting card companies, and his family enjoyed finding his cards in stores across the country. A firm believer in lifelong learning, David never stopped developing new interests. Later in life, he became a dedicated bridge player, developed a passion for cooking, and kept current with every trend in computing and electronics. Picture all of this set against a musical backdrop that included everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Leonard Bernstein, Broadway show tunes, classical to jazz, which filled his home. As a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a teacher and a friend, David was generous with his love and his guidance. He was particularly grateful to be not just aware of, but involved in, his childrens and grandchildrens lives. He will be missed by his family: daughter Susan (Singer) Dumas of Madison, CT; son Neil Singer of East Haven; daughter Leslie Singer and her partner Ron Hook of New York, NY and Madison, CT; grandson Joshua Dumas and his partner Jared Spencer of New York, NY; granddaughter Melina Singer and grandson Andrew Hook of Madison, CT; and Davids beloved companion for the past four years, Mary Lou Tobias of Brooklyn, NY. Services will be held at Temple Beth Tikva in Madison at 196 Durham Road, prior to going to Beaver Brook , Route 145, Clinton. The Thomas L. Obituary: Marguerite L. Sinclair, nee Bechtel was born in Brattleboro, VT on May 20, 1917 and died 8, 2016. Her family was in Brattleboro only a short time before they moved to Milton, MA and thereafter to Newton Highlands, MA. From an early age she visited with relatives from Dover, NH, Wells, ME and Dubuque, IA. Descended from the earliest settlers in Wells, ME, she displayed the same spirit as her ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War as a drummer boy, from Fort Ticonderoga to Valley Forge--never giving up and always brave.

She graduated from Newton High School, and attended the Massachusetts of Art where she got her degree in Costume Design with a minor in art. graduation she won a place at the Cleveland(Ohio) Play House as assistant Costume Designer. Before the year was up, she was offered the Costume Designer's position. She returned to Newton Highlands just prior to the war, and when the war started she start working for Factory Mutual where she met her husband, Henry M. Sinclair. Both her husband and her brothers volunteered for the newly created Air Force.

She married Henry M. Sinclair on 2, 1942 in Bennettsville, S.C. and both were moved to various bases, including Macon, Georgia, et al. She returned to Newton Highlands for the birth of her son, Robert(Oct. 1943) and she spent the remainder of the war there while also visiting her husband at various airfields in CO, OK, etc. Her brother Jack died while flying over the Pacific and her son kept his grandparents from despair. Her voluminous letters to her family throughout her life showed her love for living and her love of family.

Her son David was born in 1946, and her daughter Sara was born in May 1955. She was an active participant in life, working with the Cub Scouts, the Brownies and the Girl Scouts as well as League of Women's Voters, PTA, School teaching, etc. Her zest for living and her broad and deep curiosity about the world--history, science, music(especially jazz) geography, geology, art, languages, cooking, gardening, mountain climbing, etc. was matched by her love of friends and family. She painted watercolors whenever she could. She and her husband enjoyed restoring old houses which they did in several locations.

Throughout her life, she stayed in contact with relatives and friends all over the country and abroad, visiting and being visited whenever she could. Her children always knew that their friends were welcome at all times, even when dinner was about to be served--somehow she always found more room and more food. She loved being outdoors and camping, and at all times enjoyed traveling, including Europe and all of Canada. She only missed seeing a few states, and camped in Alaska when she was in her late 70's. The family moved often, mainly within MA and CT and Florida, with the longest stays in Northborough, MA, and Wallingford, CT until she moved to Madison, CT where she lived out the rest of her days.

She's left behind 3 children, Robert G. Sinclair, David N. Sinclair and wife Carol, and Sara G. Sinclair, 2 grandchildren--Heather Sinclair, and Matthew and Allison (Sinclair)Bauer--as well as 6 great grandchildren.. She made the world a better place for all of us, and the world was a better place for her being in it. We will miss her wisdom and love.

Go with God, mama.

Vaya con Dios, mama.

Gehen Sie mit Gott, mama.

I cum Deo.

Que Dieu te garde, mama.
