Obituary: Joan Ruth Shepherd (Rose), 82, of Guilford, , 21, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on 19, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Isadore and Etta Rose and was raised in Far Rockaway, NY from the age of two. She attended Brooklyn . On 11, 1953 she married Robert Shepherd. Joan was employed by BBP in Waterford, CT for 23 years as a Copy Editor. She retired in 1994 splitting her time between Connecticut and Florida. She was a permanent resident of Vero Beach FL from 2000 through 2012 when she and Robert moved back to Connecticut. Joans passions aside from her children were her friends and her activities at both Temple Emanu-El in Waterford and Temple Beth Shalom in Vero Beach as well as a love of theater and music which has been passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the UCONN Womens Basketball team. Survived by her husband Robert, son David and his wife Ashley of New York, NY, son Garry of Sudbury, MA, daughter Ellen McKinney and her husband Sean of Draper, UT, daughter Carole Simpson and her husband Robert, of Sudbury, MA, grandchildren Anastasia and Jeremy Shepherd, Rachel and Joshua Shepherd, Kyle McKinney, Jennifer Simpson and great-grand daughter Sara Yehudis Binder. Obituary: Carol Ruth Shepherd, better known as CR, died peacefully on May 2 at the Stamford Hospital at the age of 93 of natural causes. She was a resident of New Canaan for 52 years. Born in Bridgeport, CT on 24, 1922, she was the daughter of Judge Joseph G. and Helen Shapiro. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Shep Shepherd. She graduated from Cornell University in 1944 with a B.S. in Economics, now the School of Human Ecology, where she specialized in Nutrition. She went on to work in the Army Air Corps in a variety of jobs including food organization analysis and often talked of painting numbers on airplanes. Carol Ruth joined the League of Women Voters in Bridgeport in 1947 alongside her mother. Together their passion for volunteering led her to become Connecticut State president, following her mothers term. were a strong mother daughter team with the League and at Congregation B ai Israel in Bridgeport. Carol Ruth and Shep moved to New Canaan in 1964 and settled into life in the Frank Lloyd Wright house on Frogtown Road. enjoyed sharing their home with the public for many community events and she continued her work with the League. In 1971 CR fulfilled a dream and founded PhotoGraphics Workshop on Elm Street in New Canaan, known to many as PGW. She saw it as a place that artists could gather and have creativity as their common language. Following her experience with her mother, she encouraged her daughter, Beth Shepherd Peters, to join PGW. Together they educated and inspired thousands of students from teenagers to students in their 90s. She and Shep were active members in the Young President's Organization and the World Business Council and traveled throughout the world in conjunction with these organizations, studying everywhere they went. In 1993, she joined her husband in founding the Albert B. Sabin Vaccine Institute with the main headquarters in New Canaan now in Washington DC. forged a vision together and she proudly traveled to Washington at 91 to celebrate the Sabin Institutes 20th Anniversary. She was a flawless example of what a mother could be and, right to the end, saw her children as individuals. Carol Ruth is survived by her four children, John Shepherd and his wife Susan Tunick of Easton, CT, Marjorie Shepherd Loeper and her husband John of Ocean City, NJ, Beth Shepherd Peters and her husband Kenneth of New Canaan and Benjamin Shepherd and his wife Liz of Boston, MA as well as eight grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, nephews and nieces and her sister Elaine Silver of Boca Raton Florida. She is predeceased by her brother Howard Scott. Obituary: Rachel Lynn Shepard, 34, of Manchester, beloved daughter of Scott and Lisa (Plude) Shepard of Vernon, passed away suddenly at her home on , May 31, 2016. Born in Hartford, she grew up and lived in Vernon for most of her life before moving to Manchester five years ago. She was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 2000. She was very outgoing and loved to talk to everyone. Rachel liked scary movies, Halloween, Hello Kitty, jewelry and Rosary Beads. She enjoyed making crafts with her mother and sister. Rachel loved all animals, especially dogs and frogs. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Ashley Shepard of Vernon; her paternal grandparents, Barry and Barbara Shepard of Tavares, FL; her uncle, Butch Plude and his wife Lorry; her aunts, Darlene Bauer and her husband Fred, Cathy Mott, Lori Wentworth and her husband Dave, Stacie Fluckiger and her husband Mark, and Elaine Plude; a great aunt, Pam Taylor and her husband George; her cousins, Valerie, Chris, Sean, Zack, Josh, Justin and Lindsay, and her close friends, Becky, Jordyn and Clara, and her best friends and companions, her family, Peanut, Mugsey, and Ginger. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Warren and Alice Plude. The family would like to thank the Community Resources, Monika Wojtak, and a special thank you to Cheri Hitchcock and Amanda Paugas from Interim and givers of Connecticut. Obituary: Mary Elizabeth (Beach) Shepard, Bunny - A light has gone out of our lives with the passing of our dearly loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Mary Beach Shepard, 95, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully at home on , May 24th, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in West Hartford to Lucille (Curtin) Beach and Charles Bradford Beach, Bunny made her home on Main Street, South Windsor shortly after graduating from Kingswood-Oxford School and marrying the love of her life, JE Red Shepard. Turned 18 in , got married in and proud of it! She was active in her community, a dedicated member of Garden Club, Reading Club, African Violet Society, South Windsor Club, First Congregational Church of South Windsor, the Town and Club of Hartford and the scribe for her graduating class at Kingswood-Oxford School.
